Rufus and Gather Family and Friends in First LA Installment of Annual Christmas Concerts December 21-22 at Royce Hall CAP UCLA

Post-Show Galas to Benefit Kate McGarrigle Foundation for Sarcoma Research

Special guests include , Van Dyke Parks, Carrie Fisher and more

Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA presents “Christmas 101,” two special musical evenings with Rufus and Martha Wainwright, who bring their annual family concert gathering to Los Angeles for the first time December 21-22 at 8pm at Royce Hall. Tickets to the concert ($20-$60) are on sale now at cap.ucla.edu , via Ticketmaster and at the UCLA Central Ticket office at 310.825.2101.

Tickets ($101) to the post-show reception and party with the artists are also on sale now and may be purchased in conjunction with concert tickets online or via the UCLA Central Ticket office. The total cost of the gala ticket benefits the Kate McGarrigle Foundation, which was created to raise money for underfunded sarcoma research by famed Canadian folk singer Kate McGarrigle before her death from the disease in January 2010.

Kate McGarrigle first brought her busy family together in concert for the holidays in New York in 2005, and her final live performance was the 2009 family Christmas show. Surrounded by family and friends on stage in a magical, emotional night in London at the Royal Albert Hall and undaunted by protests that she was too ill, she persevered as only Kate could and brought the family together for one more Christmas concert. Now, Kate’s children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces and nephews and her legions of friends carry on the tradition in honor of her legacy, her music, her passion for life and her fight against cancer.

The evenings in Royce Hall will feature two not-so-silent nights of eclectic carols being performed in French and English by the talented McGarrigle and Wainwright clans and many friends – both famous and infamous – along with food, drink and merriment at the gala event immediately following each night’s performance.
