Located in the eastern part of County , the -Thurles has three towns within its precinct – Thurles, Templemore and . Thurles, to the south of the District is 5 km (3 miles) from the M8 () motorway. Roscrea is beside the M7 (–Dublin) motorway to the north of the County and Templemore is equidistant to both the M7 and M8 motorways – providing a 1-hour catchment population of 803,726.

The historic town of Thurles, deep in the heart of , is a thriving commercial and business centre.
