Quinn: Canton Ticino And The Italian Swiss Immigration To California Canton Ticino and the Italian Swiss Immigration to California by Tony Quinn “The southernmost of Switzerland’s twenty-six cantons, the Ticino, may speak Italian, sing Italian, eat Italian, drink Italian and rival any Italian region in scenic beauty—but it isn’t Italy,” so writes author Paul Hofmann1 describing the one Swiss canton where Italian is the required language and the cultural tie is to Italy to the south, not to the rest of Switzerland to the north. Unlike the German and French speaking parts of Switzerland with an identity distinct from Germany and France, Italian Switzerland, which accounts for only five percent of the country, clings strongly to its Italian heritage. But at the same time, the Ticinese2 are fully Swiss, very proud of being part of Switzerland, and with an air of disapproval of Italy’s ever present government crises and its tie to the European Union and the Euro zone, neither of which Ticino has the slightest interest in joining.

In accordo con la risoluzione governativa 1302 del 14.03.2020, relativa alla riduzione dell’offerta di trasporto pubblico, annunciata congiuntamente da FFS e AutoPostale con riferimento al nostro Cantone, FART riduce di principio la propria offerta del 50% garantendo la prima e l’ultima corsa. Maggiori informazioni sul sito www.centovalli.ch Le autorità federali e cantonali hanno invitato la popolazione a evitare il più possibile l'uso dei trasporti pubblici. Nonostante questa limitazione, il servizio di trasporto pubblico resta un servizio fondamentale per la popolazione e deve poter essere garantito in questo periodo ma anche nelle prossime settimane e mesi, preservando la salute dei conducenti. La messa in servizio di un’offerta ridotta permette innanzitutto di tutelare i conducenti che rientrano nelle categorie a rischio, così come definite dalle direttive cantonali. FART ha inoltre deciso di non chiamare in servizio i conducenti con figli in età scolare i cui coniugi lavorano nel settore socio- sanitario, impegnati duramente nella lotta contro il coronavirus. Grazie all’offerta ridotta, i turni del personale sono stati elaborati riducendo la rotazione al fine di mantenere delle squadre indipendenti, minimizzando in tal modo i contatti e le possibilità di contagio. Il personale non in servizio è stato sensibilizzato al massimo rispetto delle norme di comportamento stabilite dalle autorità per ridurre le probabilità di contagio anche al di fuori dell’ambiente di lavoro.
