Towards Zero Action Plan

$25 Million allocated to treat over 200 high speed, high risk rural intersections

Cost-effective, interim treatments

Working with Trafficworks and Regional Roads Victoria to develop sites

All sites to be developed by June 2019 and delivered by June 2020 Site Selection

Initial site prioritisation based on risk calculation

500 sites with 1.5 or more predicted fatal or seriously injured persons in 10 year period

Reviewed by region and cross checked with 10 year crash history

Sites shortlisted to approx. 275 sites for further development Treatment Philosophy

Treatments developed based on predetermined ‘tier’ levels of treatment.

Tiers are given a flexible dollar value limit (based on crash history, crash risk and proposed treatment):

Tier 1 (T1) sites – approx. $250,000 Tier 2 (T2) sites – approx. $140,000 Tier 3 (T3) sites – approx. $50,000

Determining the best treatment options for addressing the key crash types as well as the specific crash history at the site. Treatment Tiers Tier 3 Tier 1 • Signage and line marking • Side Road Activated Speed; upgrades/improvements; • Turning lanes (short length); • Rumble strips; • Combinations of T2 and T3 level • Tree trimming/vegetation removal; treatments. • Speed limit reductions (including time- based);

Tier 2 • Concrete splitter islands; • Flashing “Stop” / “Give Way ahead” signs; • Lighting upgrades; • Also including T3 level treatments.
