A sought‐after keynote speaker, conference MC and host, Talia has moderated live panel discussions at the World Economic Forum, Africa and has spoken at TEDxBreda in the Netherlands. Before starting her production company, Talia was a reporter and producer for CNBC Africa, and has interviewed heads of state, celebrities, entrepreneurs and billionaire philanthropists. She has reported for CNBC Europe in London and hosted the channel’s top‐rated weekend channel, Eye on the Western Cape on business and entrepreneurship. In 2009, Talia won the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Award in the regional television news category, for her piece on the Broccoli Project, a social entrepreneurship story, on HIV/AIDS. Since 2010, Talia has been invited by the International Academy of Television and Art Sciences to act as judge for the International Emmy Awards in New York.

Talia holds a BA Film & Media degree from the University of Cape Town. Her television education also includes a scholarship to school of Film & Television at the University of California. She has worked for the BBC World Service, CNN International, Forbes Africa Magazine and O, The Oprah Magazine, South Africa. She was a presenter and producer for SAfm and for a guest presenter, produce and writer for Tswelopele Productions, on their magazine show Top Billing.. Talia is passionate about the power of broadcasting, media and television to inspire change. An entrepreneur at heart, Talia lives by the philosophy of excellence in message, creativity and product.

Carina Bauer CEO, IMEX Group

Having graduated from Oxford University, UK, in Politics, Philosophy and Economics in 1998, Carina began her career in retail and catering – setting up and running GoodBean Coffee – a family owned chain of coffee shops located throughout the South of England. As Managing Director, Carina was in charge of the expansion of the business which grew to 13 stores in 3 years and was sold to a publicly listed company in December 2001.

An avid skier, Carina enjoyed a short break working in a ski resort in Italy, before entering the meetings industry in 2002 as the Marketing and Operations Director for IMEX in Frankfurt as part of the original launch team for the exhibition. Following the expansion of the IMEX brand into America in 2009, Carina was appointed CEO of the IMEX Group. In this role, Carina is responsible for all aspects of the business.

Throughout her career, Carina has been an active member of the meetings industry. She was Chair of the Marketing Committee for MPI’s European Meetings & Events Conference, London (2008), has served on the Board of the MPI UK Chapter, the MPI International Multicultural Committee and on PCMA’s Global and Advocacy Taskforces. She is currently President Elect for the SITE International Foundation and a Director of the Meetings Industry Fund.

Carina lives on the south coast of the UK, near to the IMEX Group office in Brighton, called "London‐by‐the‐Sea" for its cosmopolitan nature and youth culture. She enjoys spending time with her family (she's a mother to two boys), and is a keen climber and skier, hitting the slopes with friends and family when she can.

Kerstin Wünsch Editor‐in‐chief, tw tagungswirtschaft

Kerstin writes about the meetings industry for 20 years. Kerstin studied economics, did an apprenticeship in hotel business and worked in France, England and Spain.

Nicola Baumann is a German fighter pilot and engineer. She was one of the first women to join the German Air Force and fly combat aircraft. In 2017 she successfully participated in an astronaut selection process.

Laura Winterling CEO, Space Time Concepts GmbH, European Astronaut Centre (EAC) – one of the final 30 candidates for ‘Die Astronautin’ programme

Laura has a M.Sc. Physics from the University of Bayreuth, Bavaria, Germany and a M.Sc. Organisational Psychology from UCL, London. She has been an astronaut support officer and astronaut instructor at European Cargo Spaceship ATV, European Space Laboratory Columbus and European Astronaut Centre, Cologne for the European Space Agency. She has been involved in two Sojuz launches in Baikonur, Kasakhstan, a parabolic flight with ESA in Bordeaux, and survival and leadership training with ESA. She has held responsibilities in various Mission Control Centres including Moscow and, Houston and has taught more than 80 international astronauts on space craft and station systems. She is the founder of Space Time Concepts GmbH, is involved in event management for the EAC for ESA in Cologne, is a speaker on human spaceflight and astronaut training. She is also a life coach.

Karin Nordmeyer Chairwoman, UN Women National Committee, Germany

Karin Nordmeyer is a strong advocate for human rights, in particular for the rights of women and children. She serves as a senior adviser on women’s rights issues and was appointed by the German government to contribute to the work of committees, such as the German Advisory Board for Civilian Crisis Prevention, the NATO Civil Society Advisory Panel on Women, Peace and Security and is repeatedly appointed to government delegations, such as to the UN Commission on the Status of Women. She has been President of UN Women National Committee Germany since 2004. Her vision is that women achieve full participation in all aspects and spheres of the political and social life; women reach their full potential; women become agents for change; women and men live free from violence; the empowerment of women makes a difference. By profession a music director and musicologist, she retired in 2000.

Dr. Mara Harvey Head, Global UHNW Germany, Austria, Italy, UBS

Mara is a senior manager at UBS Wealth Management and is passionate about driving innovation and delivering an outstanding client experience across all dimensions of great wealth: business, investments, family and legacy. In particular, © UBS she is committed to changing the face of the financial industry to better serve women. She founded and brought to life UBS's global women's initiative, UBS Unique, and heads UBS's Global UHNW businesses across Germany, Austria and Italy. Mara has 18 years’ experience in the financial industry and joined UBS in 2000. She is multilingual and has held various positions in wealth management, spanning risk transformation and capital management, strategy and organisational design, human resources, business development, sales management, client development and holistic advisory of UHNW clients. Mara holds a PhD with highest honours in Political Economy from Fribourg University and a degree in Economic Policy and Econometrics.

Susanne Labonde Director, Global Employer Branding, SAP

As a marketing, communications and HR professional, Susanne has extensive global employer branding expertise and in managing global teams. She gained insights into what drives strong employee engagement and how to become a talent magnet in highly competitive markets. Gender equality is one of her passions which is why she is an active mentor to female talent and was a founding member of SAP’s global Business Women Network. Finding purpose in her career has always been high on her agenda and she took a two‐year social sabbatical for the World Childhood Foundation which offered the opportunity to apply entrepreneurial, creative, leadership and risk management skills in a highly reputable organisation headed by Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden. Together with her husband and two teenage children, she loves sports and is supporting the junior trainer team of a rowing club in Frankfurt in their leadership development. She is also a member of the International Women’s Forum.

Isabel Bardinet CEO, European Society of Cardiology

Isabel Bardinet started her career in the meetings industry in 1988 when she entered SOCFI, a French PCO, where she organised national, international and governmental congresses, presented many international bids and learnt association management. In 2002 she took over as Executive Sales Director at the Palais des Congrès in Paris and participated in the creation and development of the Leading Venues of Paris. In 2005, she joined the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) to become the Congress Division Director. The ESC organises over nine congresses a year, including the largest medical congress in Europe and biggest cardiovascular disease congress in the world with over 35,000 participants. In 2009 Isabel became CEO of the ESC which currently gathers six sub‐specialty associations, 15 working groups, 56 national cardiac societies and six councils in addition to the main cardiology association, with 94,000 members in over 90 countries. Isabel Bardinet was president of the AC Forum from 2010 to 2012, creating the association management chapter. She served as Vice President of the Sophia Club Enterprises from 2012‐2014. In 2014, she obtained the Certificate in Corporate Governance from INSEAD. Isabel received the 2015 Professional Convention Management Association Chairman’s Award for her creative involvement of the community in advancing the ESC’s mission at the ESC Congress 2015 in London and the 2017 JMIC Power & Profile Award. She has been named one of the 25 most influential people in the meetings industry.

Jeannine Koch Director, re:publica

Jeannine Koch, born and raised in Berlin, graduated from English, American and German studies. In 2008 she received a scholarship for a Master’s Degree in International Communications in Sydney, Australia. 2010 she finished her Diploma in Media Studies at TU‐Berlin. Shortly after, she held the Head of Marketing and Communications position at a Berlin shoe label. From 2012‐2017 she was Marketing © Jan Florian and Communications Director at Berlin´s first International Garden Exhibition (IGA Dietrich Berlin 2017). Since 2018 Koch has been Director for Europe´s biggest digital conference re:publica in Berlin.

Lyn Lewis‐Smith CEO, Business Events Sydney

Lyn is Chief Executive Officer of Business Events Sydney, the organisation which provides specialist bidding services by partnering with a diverse range of public and private sector stakeholders, to secure international business events that deliver economic, strategic and social benefits for Australia and global communities. Lyn’s experience spans banking, resources, transport, sport and tourism. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, UTS Business School Advisory Board Member, Chair of the Committee for Sydney’s Liveability/Loveability Taskforce and Co‐Chair of DestinationNEXT. Lyn was a key advocate behind the redevelopment of Sydney’s convention offering as part of the evaluation sub‐panel for the Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct tender. Lyn devotes considerable energy to her passion for women’s rights and is Co‐Chair of the Host Steering Committee for the Global Summit of Women Sydney 2018.

Sherrif Karamat, CAE CEO, PCMA

Sherrif Karamat, CAE, MBA is President and CEO of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA). In conjunction with his role, Sherrif also serves as President of PCMA’s Education Foundation and Publisher of Convene magazine. In his previous role as Chief Operating Officer, Karamat was a key member of PCMA’s executive team, and led the development and implementation of the organisation’s new vision: Driving global economic and social transformation through business events. In addition to his responsibilities at executive level, Sherrif led the streamlining process of PCMA’s media, content and channels under one organisation. He also oversaw the partnership, business services, membership, business development and technology teams. As part of PCMA’s growth strategy, Sherrif has led the organisation on a major data intelligence programme and played a key role in the recent acquisition of Incent.

Karen Bolinger CEO, Melbourne CVB

Karen Bolinger is the CEO of the Melbourne Convention Bureau which under her seven‐year leadership has delivered $1.4 billion in economic contribution to the Victorian economy. Karen established ‘Melbourne IQ’ highlighting the city’s intellectual capacity and knowledge sectors; this was the first time ever a city internationally and locally had been positioned as an intellectual hub in the conference market. Highlighting Melbourne’s intellectual hubs as a key part of the conference bid was evolved further to connect economic development as a key city stakeholder. Karen is President of the Association of Australian Convention Bureaux and sits on the Boards of the Business Events Council of Australia, BestCities, PCMA/ICESAP Advisory Board and the Simpleview Advisory Board. She is also immediate past Chair of BestCities Global Alliance and ICCA Australia.

Nina Freysen‐Pretorius President, ICCA

Nina Freysen‐Pretorius has 25 years’ experience in the conference industry and started her own company in 1997 organising corporate events and conferences, which has evolved to specialise in national and international association conferences as well as association management. Nina is passionate about conferencing and lives up to her company’s mission and vision of “bringing people together to learn and aspire”. In a highly competitive industry, Nina has proven to be one of the top professional conference organisers in South Africa, as well as an ambassador for business tourism whilst attending overseas conferences and shows. In 2008 Nina was invited to serve on the ICCA Board as Chair of the ICCA Africa Chapter then as a Board representative for the Africa/Middle East regions. In 2009 Nina was invited to serve on the ICCA Management Finance Committee and in 2010 was voted as second Vice‐ Chair of the ICCA Board. On the 2 November 2014 Nina was voted President of the ICCA Board and again for a second term.

Sarah Sigloch Vice President Human Resources, H‐Hotels AG

Sarah Sigloch moved from Heidelberg to Ravensburg in 1999. After studying hotel management whilst working with the Marriott Hotel Heidelberg she was promoted to the position of training coordinator for the Marriott headquarters in Eschborn. To define quality standards as well as to establish a quality assurance system for all international brands she started working for Wyndham Worldwide in 2004. Led by her passion for training and development as well as her practical experience in the hotel industry she was responsible for defining and establishing quality standards and the training academy for H‐Hotels. Sarah also continued her further education and eventually graduated as a professional coach in 2013. Ever since being promoted to Vice President of Human Resources she has put her focus on development, employer branding and recruiting as well as still being active as a corporate coach.

Edgar Hirt Former CEO, CCH ‐ Congress Centrum Hamburg

Most recently Edgar Hirt was Managing Director forCCH ‐ Congress Center Hamburg. Before that he was Head of ICM – International Congress Center, . His career has seen him hold positions at Kongresshaus Baden‐Baden and VDI Projekt und Service GmbH, Düsseldorf, He studied Business Administration, Transport & Logistics, and was an army officer in the 1st Mountaineer Division, Garmisch‐Partenkirchen.

His professional achievements include the planning, construction and redevelopment of three congress centres: Baden‐Baden (expansion) and Munich (new congress centre) and CCH – Congress Center Hamburg (total revitalisation).

He has spent more than 10 years on the Board of AIPC, was Managing Director of Hamburg Convention Bureau from 2009 to 2011, a founding member of Seven Centers of Germany, and a guest lecturer at the University of Munich and University of Applied Sciences in Bad Honnef.

Edgar enjoys sports including free‐skiing, racing and mountain biking, music (jazz, swing and classical) and home cooking.
