We had a great young lady in Emily Smith who we sponsored to attend the IRYLA coinciding with world conference in Sydney in June. She gave us a excellent briefing on the conference and the need for Rotary to continue promoting the RYLA message. Emily would be remembered by those who attended out Christmas function, Emily entertained us with her guitar and song. She will again be entertaining us at our 1500 th meeting celebration. The meeting jackpot is still there for someone to get that magic #1, Sue missed out last week in pulling out #2. Our Sergeant David Riggall did a great job in relieving you of some small change, in a fare and proper way. Perhaps ask David why he did not fine me. Our guest speaker this week is from the National Stroke Foundation – Ambassador Philippa King. (See Page 2 for details ) The following week August 6 th will be a Club Assembly . Please try to attend this club assembly meeting, this is when the 2014/15 budget will be discussed and directors and committees acknowledged. Again thanks to those who braved the winters night in attending our meeting and I look forward to see you all on Wednesday night. Take Care - David Campbelltown Library Chess Teams - BBQ lunch at Thorndon Park – 24 August 2014 The Rotary club of Morialta will be helping to cook the BBQ lunch at Thorndon Park (request currently with Graeme Packer) as the club did last year. This will be on Sunday August 24 th and is to celebrate the performance of the Campbelltown Library chess teams. As they are a community team, they do not qualify for the school shields at the end of the year, but we still like to congratulate them on their wonderful performance. Previous years the Campbelltown council/library paid the fees associated with participation in the state competition, but this year the outstanding amount has been personally donated by deputy mayor Jill Whittaker. She will therefore hand out the Deputy Mayor Jill Whittaker award for the most improved player during the lunch festivities. Kind Regards, Sabrina Koetsier Page 1 Morialta Rotary Club Shed Some photos of the new shelving installed at the Rotary Shed by Kevin Jacka and the boys from the Community Workshop. A big thank you to the team from the Community Workshop for a great job. This will also that allow us to store a lot more equipment etc and tidies up the Rotary Shed as everyone can see. Still a little bit more sorting out to do but that can be done in the coming weeks. Best Regards Graeme Packer RYDA News We are now looking for Volunteers for this Event. The dates for RYDA have changed again now 5 and 7 August 2014 at Campbelltown Leisure Centre Judi Brown will be the Day Manager. Please contact Judi to Volunteer for this important annual event. about RYDA (now part of the Road Safety Education program) RYDA is a series of practical and powerful workshops that aim to change the way young people think about road safety. As part of an interactive one-day experience, students experience braking at different speeds, devise travel strategies that will work for them in the real world and get tips from road safety experts on how to protect themselves, their friends and family. Perhaps the most impactful moments come from the personal stories of loss and survival. In one session, students watch a powerful and emotional video on the life and tragic death of an 18 year old provisional driver and her best friend. And in another, they sit with a crash survivor and hear first-hand how one poor choice can change a life forever. http://www.rse.org.au/ Guest Speakers in the future Wednesday 30 July 2014 Philippa King from the Stroke Foundation : For 25 years Philippa King owned and worked in her own cleaning business, doing everything from aged and disability care domestic cleaning, offices, building sites and homes. Therefore, the ways in which cooperating teachers participate in teacher education are signifi- cant. This review seeks to move conceptions of that participation beyond commonly held beliefs to empirically supported claims. The analysis draws on Brodie, Cowling, and Nissen’s notion of categories of participation to generate 11 different ways that cooperating teachers participate in teacher education: as Providers of Feedback, Gatekeepers of the Profession, Modelers of Practice, Supporters of Reflection, Gleaners of Knowledge, Purveyors of Context, Conveners of Relation, Agents of Socialization, Advocates of the Practical, Abiders of Change, and Teachers of Children. When set against Gaventa’s typology of participation, the resultant grid high- lights the importance of negotiated or invited spaces for cooperating teacher participation and provides a new way of thinking about, planning profes- sional development for, and working with cooperating teachers. KEYWORDS: cooperating teacher, the practicum, teacher education, supervision, student teacher Teacher education represents a continuum of professional development for teachers as they seek to improve their practice. An early but critical phase on that continuum is the practicum, an extended field experience under the guidance of an experienced teacher who is often referred to as a cooperating teacher.

9189 LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY Thursday 12 October 2000 ______ Mr Speaker (The Hon. John Henry Murray) took the chair at 10.30 a.m. Mr Speaker offered the Prayer. ADDRESS BY PARALYMPIANS JULIANNE ADAMS AND HAMISH MacDONALD Mr SPEAKER: Order! Pursuant to the resolution of the House yesterday, it is my honour and privilege to welcome Paralympians Ms Julianne Adams and Mr Hamish MacDonald onto the floor of the House to address honourable members. Ms JULIANNE ADAMS: Mr Speaker and honourable members, I would like to begin—quite predictably, I think—by thanking you very, very much for this amazing opportunity to speak this morning on behalf of the Australian Paralympic Team and especially the 285 athletes. We realise that this is a wonderful opportunity and I thank you sincerely. When I was thinking about what to say today—I must confess that I have not had a lot of time to prepare, as I have been a little distracted with other things—I thought perhaps I could talk to you about the Paralympic Games, but there is no point in doing that because there is a lot of literature around that will give you that detail. Instead what I would like to do this morning is give you a little bit of a personal perspective on what it is like to be a Paralympian, how I came to this point and what the Paralympic Games mean to an athlete. Perhaps a small personal overview will put you more in the feel and the spirit of the Games. Please do not panic: I am not going to go over the past 34 years, which is my age.
