Toma de la AlhóndigaGrito de Independencia de Granaditas Grito de Independencia 16 de septiembre de 1810 INTRODUCCIÓN. Con la abdicación de Carlos IV, al trono de la corona española, a favor de los franceses, en 1808, se generó en la Nueva España un sentimiento de vacío de poder, al desaparecer la autoridad legítima del rey español. Este hecho hizo que las autoridades de la Nueva España, como el Ayuntamiento de la Ciudad de México, declararan que correspondía al pueblo la formación de un gobierno temporal y provisional, que ante la falta de monarca y de gobierno, la soberanía residía en la propia Nueva España, principalmente en los cuerpos que llevaban la voz pública, como el mismo Ayuntamiento. Sin embargo, la Audiencia de México no fue de ese parecer; ésta estaba a favor de que se declarara al Virrey como la autoridad suprema, en lo necesario, y se creara una junta permanente que contrapesara su poder. El Ayuntamiento solicitó se formara la junta con todas las autoridades, y el Virrey Iturrigaray la convocó; a esta reunión asistió el propio Virrey, la audiencia, los alcaldes de corte y fiscales, el Arzobispo, la Inquisición y el Ayuntamiento. Se discutió la necesidad de un gobierno provisional y el desconocimiento de las Juntas Peninsulares. Iturrigaray simpatizó con las ideas del Ayuntamiento, lo que derivó en la convocatoria de un Congreso Nacional. Radicalizadas las ideas y polarizadas las fuerzas, el Ayuntamiento estaba integrado en Rey Carlos IV 1 Grandes Batallas su mayoría por criollos que aspiraban que la Nueva España se gobernarse libremente, a través de un congreso que representara a la nación y designara a las autoridades que fueran necesarias. -

INTRODUCTION French Louisiana had been a thorn in the flank of Spain’s Atlantic Empire from its founding in 1699. Failure to remove that thorn in 1699 and again in 1716, when doing so would have been comparatively easy and Spanish naval forces were positioned to do so, meant that by 1762 the wound had festered, so that the colony had become what La Salle, Iberville, Bienville, and their royal masters had envisioned: a smuggling station through which French goods reached New Spain and Cuba and their goods—dye stuffs and silver mostly—reached France and helped to pay the costs of a colony that consumed more than it produced, at least so 1 far as the French crown’s finances were concerned. * © 2017 Paul E Hoffman. 1 The Rites of Statehood: Violence and Sovereignty in Spanish America, 1789-1821 Jeremy Adelman Princeton University In Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel, The General in his Labyrinth, a long-winded Frenchman lectures a pensive, dying Simon Bolivar. The Liberator responds. He acknowledges that the revolution unleashed the furies of avenging justice, and laments, without repudiating, his decision to order the execution of eight hundred Spanish prisoners in a single day, including pa.ti~nts in La Guaira' s moral authority to reproach me, for if any history is drowned in blood, indignity, and injustice, it is the history of Europe." When the Frenchman tries to interrupt, Bolivar puts down his cutlery \ and glares at his guest. "Damn it, please let us have our Middle Ages in peace!" he exclaimed. 1 These, of course, were Garc,a Marquez's words, not Bolivar's. But they echo Bolivar's requiem on the events he shaped about the relationship between savagery and state-formation. More than lofty proclamations or principle's of statehood, the historical memory of the years leading to 1821 are saturated with blood. For the chroniclers and epic writers, from Jose Manuel, Restrepo's (1827) Historia de la Revolucion de Colombi~ to Garcia Marquez, the scenes of violence and carnage gave rise to narratives of sacrifice and struggle that could not be wholly redeemed by what came after. And yet, we have not thought very systematically about the significance of political violence in Latin America - despite its recurrence. Study reveals racial inequality in Mexico, disproving its ‘race-blind’ rhetoric theconversation.com/study-reveals-racial-inequality-in-mexico-disproving-its-race-blind-rhetoric-87661 For centuries, the United States has been engaged in a thorny, stop-and-go conversation about race and inequality in American society. And from Black Lives Matter demonstrations to NFL players protesting police violence, public discussions on racism continue in full force today. That’s not the case in Mexico. Mexicans have divergent ancestry, including Spanish, African, indigenous and German. And while skin color in Mexico ranges from white to black, most people – 53 percent – identify as mestizo, or mixed race. In Mexico, inequality, though rampant, has long been viewed as a problem related to ethnicity or socioeconomic status, not race. Our new report suggests that assumption is wrong. Published in November, “Is Mexico a Post-Racial Country?” reveals that in Mexico darker skin is strongly associated with decreased wealth and less schooling. Indeed, race is the single most important determinant of a Mexican citizen’s economic and educational attainment, our results show. Unequal in every way The study, published last month by the Latin American Public Opinion Project at Vanderbilt University, or LAPOP, drew on data from the university’s Americas Barometer, a poll of 34 nations across North, Central and South America, as well the Caribbean. To capture information on race, which is often not reflected in Latin American census data, the pollsters themselves categorized respondents’ face skin tone on a standardized 11-point scale that ranges from darkest to lightest. We were fascinated to see that the Mexico data clearly showed people with white skin completing more years of schooling than those with browner skin – 10 years versus 6.5. -

History of Mexico Written by Sarah Collinge Mexico is a country rich in history, tradition, and culture. It is home to more than 100 million peo- ple and is the largest Spanish-speaking nation in the world. The people of Mexico represent a rich blend of Indian and Spanish cultures. Mexico’s history can be divided into two major time periods: the period before the arrival of the Eu- ropeans, and the period that followed it. Reminders of Mexico’s past are found in the ruins that still exist throughout Mexico. Early Mexico The Olmecs The Olmec people made up Mexico’s first known society. These early people flourished from 1200 to 900 BC. Giant head sculptures carved by these ancient people still remain. The Mayan People From 250 AD to around 900 AD the Mayan civilization flourished in Mexico. It is estimated that during this time period the Mayan population averaged about 8 million. The ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza, located in southeastern Mexico, reveals clues to the Mayans’ marvelous past. Mayan people are noted for their early un- derstanding of astronomy and for creating a sophisticated language. At Chichen Itza you can view monuments, temples, and ball courts built in this early time period. While their ancient civilization lies in A temple at the Mayan city, ruins, the Mayans are still living and surviving. More than 6 million Chichen Itza. Mayans live throughout Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. The Toltec People In 900 AD, the Toltec people began to transform the small farming community of Tula into a thriv- ing capital city, which would become a home to an estimated 30,000 people. -

Aniversario Del Nacimiento De Ignacio Allende
21 DE ENERO: ANIVERSARIO DEL NACIMIENTO DE IGNACIO ALLENDE México conmemora el 21 de enero el nacimiento de Ignacio Allende, quien, al lado de Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, fue uno de los más destacados caudillos de la primera fase de la Guerra de Independencia de México. Ignacio María Allende y Unzaga nació en 1769 en San Miguel El Grande, Guanajuato (hoy San Miguel de Allende, en su honor). Hijo de familia acomodada, en 1795 ingresó al ejército y fue teniente del Regimiento Provincial de Dragones de la Reina. Su vida en el ejército colonial le permitió conocer y compartir los ideales de libertad e independencia de grupos de liberales. Esa inquietud política lo llevó a participar en 1809 en la conspiración de Valladolid (hoy Morelia), misma que fue descubierta y sus dirigentes detenidos. Allende apenas logró escapar, y posteriormente se adhirió a otra facción conspiradora en Querétaro, dirigida por el corregidor Miguel Domínguez y su esposa, Josefa Ortiz. En el grupo también estaban el cura de Dolores, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Mariano Abasolo y los hermanos Ignacio y Juan Aldama. La conspiración también fue traicionada y descubierta. Allende e Hidalgo pudieron escapar oportunamente. Pero ya descubiertos, Hidalgo propuso lanzarse a la lucha de inmediato, y lo convenció de adelantar la rebelión en el pueblo de Dolores. Así, en la noche del 15 de septiembre de 1810, convocaron al pueblo a tomar las armas. Al frente de un gran contingente de criollos e indígenas, Hidalgo adoptó el estandarte con la Virgen de Guadalupe como insignia de su lucha. Pronto conformaron un ejército insurgente de más de 80,000 hombres, la mayoría campesinos y rancheros.
