Internship Title: Academic Intervention Specialist/Student Advisor Institution: Elgin Community College Location/Office: Elgin Community College, Building K, Suite 102, Elgin, Illinois 60123

Internship Period: FALL X SPRING X SUMMER X

Credit Hours Required: 120 clock hours for 3 credit hours

Supervisor: Dr. Elaine Blair Supervisor’s Degree: Ph.D. Leadership for Higher Education Years of Professional Experience: 20+

Internship Description: (Please provide an overview and primary responsibilities of the internship)

Provide advice and counsel for Upward Bound II participants regarding program academic requirements. Coordinate educational support services (academic, financial, personal, social/cultural, and career related assistance). Develop Individual Education Plan (IEP) for program participants. Monitor participant’s academic progress. Document student progress and maintain accurate participant data in files.

Outcomes/ Experiences: (Please list several experiential learning outcomes that will be achieved throughout this internship) Students will demonstrate proficiency in: 1) Creating Individual Education Plans (IEP) 2) Implementing student services for first-generation pre-college students within a Higher Education Setting 3) Interpreting various career and academic assessments 4) Assessing cultural competency within themselves and others through working with a diverse population of students

Qualifications / Requirements: (Please list desired qualifications and skills for internship)

Bachelor’s Degree from a 4 year College or University, liberal arts, counseling, education, human services, social work. Knowledge of Student Development Theory in Higher Education.

Bi-lingual – Spanish a plus!/Not a Requirement

Hours/Scheduling: (Please provide a typical schedule and time of day internship will occur)

September – May 3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday (After School Program)

June – July 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday (Summer Academic Program)
