CATALOG 2013 2014 President’s Message Congratulations on choosing Elgin Community College. Whether you are here to earn a certificate or degree, to transfer to a four- year institution, or to gain skills for entering the workforce, ECC is the right choice for a bright future. Elgin Community College remains committed to its mission to improve people’s lives through learning. The college has received the designation of Leader College from Achieving the Dream, the national organization dedicated to improving student success and completion. The college was one of just 14 schools in the nation in 2012 to earn this honor for demonstrating sustained improvement and accomplishments on key student achievement indicators, thanks to the efforts of our faculty and staff. You have chosen an exciting time to attend ECC. Our faculty members are developing new academic offerings in emerging fields while strengthening our core transfer and career and technical programs, and our robust first-year experience program ensures that you are equipped with the tools you need to successfully complete your goals. If this is your first time on campus or you have not been here in a while, I am sure you have noticed the tremendous changes that have occurred on the Spartan Drive Campus. Since the successful passage of the 2009 referendum, the college has opened new buildings, including the Renner Academic Library and Learning Resources, the Health and Life Sciences Building, and renovated space on campus to create more classrooms, labs, and study spaces for students. These renovations and new facilities reinforce ECC’s commitment to teaching and learning. Best of luck on your studies. I hope you have a rewarding year!
