Common Hand-Embroidery Stitches Here’s a visual guide to some of the most common hand-embroidery stitches found in and other projects. instructions usually tell you what type of to use, but if you’re venturing out on your own, use embroidery fl oss or with a wide-eye embroi- dery needle. Embroidery fl oss is usually split, with only two or three strands used at a time. Use more strands for a heavier look. Pearl cotton comes in diff erent weights – 3, 5, 8, and 12 – with the lowest number indicating the heaviest thread.
