National Geographic Crittercam researc h Living at extreme elevations within the rugged landscape of the cloud forest, the Matschie’s tree kangaroo is incredibly elusive and difficult to research. Through a generous grant from National Geographic Society’s Waitt Grants Program, TKCP partnered in 2009 with National Geographic’s Remote Imaging Department to test the applicability of a video research tool, “Crittercam©”, to capture data on behavior of tree kangaroos in the wild. By mounting a camera on a collar worn by a tree kangaroo, resulting video can provide new insights into the ’ behavior in the canopy, as well as test the viability of Crittercam systems for other arboreal species in the future.
