Catholic Charities has been providing services for individuals and families since 1933. We serve seven counties, including Mohave County, in the state of Arizona. We have been operating in Bullhead City out of an office on Riverview for many years. This will allow us to expand our services and do what we do best: Help provide permanent solutions for the community’s most vulnerable. How can a volunteer, community member or business get involved with this project? We are actively seeking donations from individuals, foundations and businesses to complete the project. There are sponsorships available and naming opportunities. Donations will go directly to the Bullhead City Shelter & Day Center and can be made online. Donations also may qualify as a tax credit. In fact, you could receive a dollar-for-dollar Arizona tax credit for your to Catholic Charities and stack it with other types of tax credits, up to $500 individually or $1,000, if filed jointly. This is different than a tax deduction. Please consult your tax professional for advice. Catholic Charities will be hiring experienced social workers and additional staff to open and operate the shelter. We are also seeking volunteers who would like to help serve those in the Tri-State area once the shelter is operational. *Go to our YouTube channel to watch the short video about the project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAdBG63MpbU&t=13s

CATHOLIC CHARITIES AND BHHS LEGACY FOUNDATION TO REDUCE HOMELESSNESS IN MOHAVE COUNTY $1.38 Million Grant Allows Extended Services to Tri-State Area’s Most Vulnerable

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (Feb. 16, 2018)— In response to community need and thanks to generous financial support from BHHS Legacy Foundation, an Arizona in Mohave and Maricopa Counties, Catholic Charities Community Services is constructing a homeless shelter in Bullhead City targeted to open in 2020. The shelter will be the first of its kind in the area.

The shelter will be designed to assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness and provide them with emergency shelter and food, and it will connect them to other available social services to create a path of self-sufficiency and hope for a bright future.

“The impact that this facility will have in this community is huge,” said Catholic Charities Executive Director – Northern Arizona Region Catherine B. Peterson. “We are humbled to receive this grant from the BHHS Legacy Foundation. We look forward to providing these needed services to Tri-State residents that will make hope come alive in those we serve.”

The BHHS Legacy Foundation’s donation of $1.38 million completes half the cost needed to construct the facility and falls in line with the foundation’s mission of enhancing the quality of life of those they serve and promoting good health. “This is a project that has been needed in our area for years, and in recognizing that fact, the Foundation’s local Board of Directors, Dr. Tom Dallman, AllenJohnson and Dr. Blake Stamper, have enthusiastically given it their full support, not only from a Board of Directors standpoint, but also from a ‘hands-on’ approach offering their personal time, skillsets and multiple areas of expertise to bring this project to expedited fruition,” states Dan Oehler, Chairman of the BHHS Legacy Foundation Board. Catholic Charities is looking for partners and donors to match the grant over the next few years. The facility is expected to provide emergency shelter for three families at a time. In addition, it will have capacity to house 40 single men or women, 8 veterans and provide meals, and offer job and volunteer opportunities to Tri-State area residents.

The staff at Catholic Charities will work to provide wrap-around support services and provide case management that will guide individuals toward permanent housing, employment and medical/behavioral health treatment, if needed.
