The Gawne Family
John Gawne married Elizabeth Corkish on the 31st of January, 1858, at Bride. Continued from 5.3.3 and see 16.5.1 below.
John Gawne married Esther McKneale on the 15th of October, 1839, at Malew. Their grand–son Thomas Kinrade married Alice Christian on the 22nd of May, 1897, at Malew.
16.1 Philip Gawne—1700
16.1.1 Philip Gawne (3287) was born circa 1700. He married Catherine Garrett circa 1720. See 16.2 for details of his descendants.
16.1.1.1 Catherine Garret (3306) was born circa 1700. She married Philip Gawne circa 1720. See 16.2 for details of her descendants.

16.2.1 Philip Gawne (3289) was baptized on the 24th of February, 1724, at Bride. He married Joney Sayle on the 12th of October, 1751, at Lezayre. See 16.3 for details of his descendants.
16.2.1.1 Joney Sayle (3288) was born circa 1724, the daughter of John Sayle & Mary Kewley. There appears to have been two couples with these names living in Andreas around this time with approximately 15 children between them. So far no effort has been made to separate the two families. See 16.3 for details of her descendants.

16.3.1 John Gawne (3290) was baptized on the 28th of February, 1759, at Bride. He married Mary Radcliffe on the 9th of June, 1781, at Braddan, see 14.3.1. See 16.4 for details of his descendants.

16.4.1 James Gawne (3292) was baptized on the 14th of April, 1789, at Bride. He married Mary Quarry (see 20.12.1) on the 2nd of December, 1832, at Bride. He was buried at Bride on the 19th of April, 1859, when his age was recorded as 70 years. See 16.5 for details of his descendants.
He appears only in the census of 1841 when his age is given as 50 years, i.e. born 1796-90, and he is described as an agricultural labourer. His wife and family appear in the 1851 census.

16.5.1 John Gawne (3294) was baptized on the 10th of March, 1833, at Bride. He married Elizabeth Corkish on the 31st of January,1858, at Bride. See 16.6 for details of his descendants.
In 1841 he was living with his parents at Ballabin, Bride. In 1851 he was working and living on the farm of Paul Taggart at Ballalocken, Bride. A mariner and fisherman, in 1861 he was living at Church Street, Ramsey,with his wife and family. In 1871 he and his family were living at 1, Quay Lane, Ramsey.
16.5.2 Mary Ann Gawne (3295) was baptized on the 7th of March, 1839, at Bride. In 1841 she was living with her parents at Ballabin, Bride. In 1851 she was living as a servant in the household of Robert Halsall at Money Voar, Jurby.
16.5.3 Christian Gawne ) was baptized on the 16th of July, 1843, at Bride. In 1851 she was living wtih her parents. In 1861 she was working as a cook and dairy maid on the farm of Francis matthews, Glyn Moar, German.

16.5.4 Walter Gawne 3304) was baptized on the 27th of Febreuary, 1848, at Bride. In 1851 he was living with his parents. In 1861, aged 12, he was living on the farm of his uncle, Clark Quarry, at Thurst Cottage, Bride
16.5.5 James Gawne (3305) was born circa 1851. In 1861 he was living with his widowed mother at Ballakil, Bride.

16.6.2 Sophia J Gawne (3298) was baptized on the 26th of February, 1860, at Maughold In 1861 he was living with his parents in Church Street,. In 1871 she was living with her parents at 1, Quay Lane, Ramsey.
16.6.3 Edward Gawne (3299) was baptized on the 31st of March 1862, at Maughold.He did not survive infancy and was buried at Maughold on the 2nd of April, 1862, when his age was recorded as 6 weeks.
16.6.4 Edward Gawne (3300) was baptized on the 16th of August, 1863, at Maughold. In 1871 he was living with his parents at 1, Quay Lane, Ramsey.
16.6.5 Henry Gawne (3301) was baptized on the 15th of November, 1865, at Maughold. In 1871 he was living with his parents at 1, Quay Lane, Ramsey.
16.6.6 Isaac Gawne (3302) was baptized on the 27th of February, 1869, at Maughold. In 1871 he was living with his parents at 1, Quay Lane, Ramsey.
16.6.7 Frederick Gawne (3303) was baptized on the 2nd of October, 1871, at Maughold. In 1871 he was living with his parents at 1, Quay Lane, Ramsey.
16.7 John Gawne—1815
16.7.1 John Gawne was born circa 1815 at Santan. He married Esther McKeale on the 15th of October, 1839, at Malew.
16.7.2 Esther McKneale (Kneale) was born circa 1804 at Malew. She married John Gawne on the 15th of October, 1829, at Malew.

16.8.1 Catherine Gawne was born circa 1828. Her age is given as 12 years in the 1841 census. It is unlikely that her mother was Esther Kneale. She married James Gilmour on the 16th of December, 1849, at Castletown.
16.8.1.1 James Gilmour was born circa 1823 at Michael. He married Catherine Gawne on the 16th of December, 1849, at Castletown.
16.8.2 William Gawne was baptized on the 17th of May, 1840, at Malew. In the 1841 census he was living with his parents at Mary Veg, Santan. In 1851 he was living with his parents at 30, Malew Street, Castletown.
16.8.3 Elizabeth Jane Gawne was baptized on the 25th of September, 1842, at Santan. She did not survive infancy.
16.8.4 Ann Gawne was baptized on the 25th of September, 1842, at Santan. She did not survive infancy.
16.8.5 Margaret Gawne was baptized on the 30th of June, 1844, at St. Mary,Castletown. She did not survive infancy and was buried on the 2nd of October, 1844, at Malew, when her age was rcorded as 3 months.
16.8.6 John Gawne was baptized on the 21st of January, 1846, at St. Mary, Castletown. In 1851 he was living with his parents at 30, Malew Street, Castletown.
16.8.7 Elizabeth Anne Gawne (6967) was baptized on the 15th of October, 1848, at St. Mary, Castletown. In 1851 she was living with her parents at 30, Malew Street, Castletown. She has not been identified in the 1861 census but in 1871 is living with her parents at 6, Arbory Road, Malew. in 1881 she was living with her two sons in the Old Peel Road, Billown, Malew. In 1891 the three were living in the Arbory Road, Malew.In 1901 she was living in Ballabeg Road and in receipt of Poor Relief.

16.10.1 Thomas Kinrade (6968) was baptized on the 31st of May, 1870, at Malew, the son of Thomas Kinrade & Elizabeth. He married Alice Christian on the 22nd of May, 1897, at Malew.
In 1871 he was living with his mother at her parnt’s home. In 1881 he was living with his mother at Billown on the Old Peel Road. In 1891 he was living with his mother in Arbory Road, Malew. In 1901 he and his family were living at Brnell, Patrick, when he was employed as a cattle man
16.10.1.1 Alice Christian (6970) was born 1864, at Andreas. She married Thomas Kinrade on the 22nd of May, 1897, at Malew.
16.10.2 James Gawne (6969) was born on the 10th of January, 1879, at Malew. Only his mother’s name was recorded at the registration. In 1881 he was living with his mother at Billown on the Old Peel Road. In 1891 he was living with his mother in Arbory Road, Malew.
