5 6 1. Introduction

1.1 General Information

This manual describes the use of the Evo.2 version of AIREL-QUETIN PE9 dental equipment.

PE9 equipment is for dental treatment and should be used by dental professionals.

• Read this manual carefully before using the PE9 equipment. It has been written to allow you to use your equipment in the best conditions. • The numerical values given in this manual and displayed as an example should not be considered as recommended values, except when specified in the text. • The figures are intended to illustrate the different functions of the PE9. They are not binding. They do not claim to represent all the equipment variants.

1.2 Classification/Regulations

The AIREL-QUETIN PE9 dental equipment complies with the following standards:

EEC Directive 93/42 Class IIa medical device (2195 - EC marking) Standard IEC 60950-1 / 60417-5019 Class I Electrical Protection. Functional insulation with an earth terminal.

IEC 60601-1 standard Type B

1.3 Safety instructions

Any electrical work on the device must be carried out by our after-sales department or by qualified personnel. AIREL-QUETIN provides this staff with any technical information needed for troubleshooting. To avoid all risks of electrical shock, it is imperative that the device is connected to an electrical supply network equipped with an earth. "WARNING" Modification of the DEVICE prohibited.

7 IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS - Do not use in the presence of an inflammable anaesthetic mixture. - The connection of the fluids must comply with the regulations in force. ISO 7494-2 Standard for dentistry - Dental units - Part 2: Water and air supply. - Intermittent service. - Turn off the PE9 unit every night after use. - Applied parts: Saddlery, casing (protective cover) - This device is intended solely for professional use. - Any modification to the EM device is strictly prohibited. - In accordance with the requirements of standard NF EN 60601-1, the device may cause radio- electric interference and/or interfere with the operation of a nearby device. The use of accessories, transducers and cables other than those specified, with the exception of equipment sold by the manufacturer as replacement parts of internal components, may result in an increase in emissions or a reduction in the device’s electromagnetic immunity. - The device must not be used next to or stacked with other devices. If this condition cannot be respected, test to ensure correct operation in this configuration. - Portable and mobile RF communications devices should not be used within 30 cm of the device. Otherwise, there may be a deterioration in the performance of the equipment.

WARNING OF INTERFERENCE FROM THE SUCTION TUBE Due to the presence of a magnet in the suction tube that may interfere with implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, the practitioner must make sure that the suction hose is placed opposite the area where the device is located in order to avoid any risk during the treatment.

All the precautions to be taken are listed below:

• Make sure that the magnetic tip of the suction tube is not placed near the pacemaker • If an acoustic signal is coming from the pacemaker, immediately move the tip of the suction tube until the acoustic signal alert tone stops. The potential risk is thus eliminated.

1.4 Guarantee

All our devices are manufactured with the utmost care and are tested according to the ISO 7494-1 standard before being delivered to our customers.

Any new PE9 appliance is guaranteed against any defective parts for 2 years from the day of delivery.

The information relating to and specific to each device is indicated on the serial number label next to the chair’s start button.

The guarantee includes the exchange or repair of the defective part, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS The instruments (turbine, micromotor, plaque remover, scalpel, curing light, etc...) are subject to special guarantee conditions (guarantee period and conditions of use) which are those of the respective manufacturers. Operation is only guaranteed for instruments provided by AIREL-QUETIN or for compatible instruments.

8 The guarantee does not extend to light bulbs, glassware, coals, heat cartridges, capacitors, fuses, customer-supplied parts, or any part subject to normal wear during the guarantee period.

The guarantee is withdrawn and AIREL-QUETIN is released from any responsibility in the following cases:

• When modifications have been made to the device, outside the specifications provided by the manufacturer, or when original parts have been replaced by parts from other sources. • When the damage is due to faulty maintenance, misuse, fault of the operator or agents not authorised by AIREL-QUETIN.

- Under no circumstances can the guarantee defined above cover any damage caused to people and property due to the operation of the device. - In case of dispute, by the express agreement of the parties, jurisdiction is given to the Commercial Court of Créteil.

1.5 IGN®-Calbénium® protocol

The PE9 dental unit incorporates an IGN® hygiene system for spray water treatment according to EEC directive 93/42 – Class IIb medical equipment.

An IGN® protocol ensuring the traceability and the conformity of operation according to standard NF EN 1717 has been implemented in order to reach the “Zero permanent germ” objective.

IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS IGN® and CALBENIUM® are a fundamental pairing for the hygiene of your PE9 unit: - No product other than CALBENIUM® should be used in the IGN® system. A study has been carried out on CALBENIUM® to ensure that it is compatible with all dental units and does not cause any damage to internal components. - The use of inappropriate products may result in oxidation of the components and devulcanization of the conducting membranes. If such defects are noted, AIREL-QUETIN reserves the right to remove the registration of use related to the IGN® protocol.

11 2.2.2.1 Instruments on whip arms

Instruments upside down. Ensure that no instruments are resting on other ones.

Clearance and articulation of whip arms: Maximum flexibility, combined with a long cord length. (Up to 6 instruments)

2.2.2.2 Instruments on hanging cords

Instruments pointing up. The hanging cords have spring-loaded retraction.

Upgradable console: option to add other instrument modules (up to 6 instruments).

Removable guide: The instruments can be used with or without a guide, by simple unclipping.

Variable inclination of instruments: Take hold of a block to position it. Range about 45°.

12 2.2.2.3 Calbépuls Calbépuls® is used for the external decontamination of instruments using a pressurised air jet and CALBENIUM® solution

It is used to clean instruments during a consultation, as well as after each patient for a pre-cleaning of the instruments before they are sterilised.

The decontamination and drying times are adjustable.

For more details see the “settings” menus of the various keyboards, as well as § 6.4.1, page 46.

The ergonomics of the assistant station enabling 2-handed or 4-handed treatments. The suction cannulas can be supplemented by other instruments, with the addition of modules.

Aspisept® is a system for the internal decontamination of suction cords using Calbénium® solution. See § 6.4.2, page 46, for how to use it.

2.2.4 Keyboard or control screen For the PE9 equipment, there are 2 models of keyboard or control screen: a touch keypad and two touchscreen models.

These 2 models are waterproof, which gives them a long life.

13 2.2.4.1 Touch keypads

The touch keypad equips the assistant station.

These keyboards are used to control the positions of the chair, the basin, the glass-filling spray, and one auxiliary function.

2.2.4.2 Evolution.2 touchscreen – USB stick

The image opposite corresponds to the Evolution.2 home screen. It is displayed when no instrument is selected.

As soon as an instrument is selected, the screen changes automatically and displays the instrument specific commands. The different menus are detailed in § 5, page 23.

The PE9 Evolution is delivered with factory settings stored in the unit’s processor.

A USB stick is also included. This allows you to save your customised settings so that you can switch from one PE9 device to another and take your working parameters with you. You do not need to use the key if you do not change equipment.

14 2.2.5 Foot pedal The PE9 pedal is available in 2 models, which are available in wired or wireless versions. The pedal controls for these different models are detailed in § 3.4, page 19.

The IGN® integrated in the PE9 unit allows the practitioner to work with a spray water treated with CALBENIUM®.

The IGN®-CALBENIUM® system supplies instrument sprays, Calbépuls®, Aspisept®.

The IGN® automatically dilutes the CALBENIUM® in the spray water. Depending on your version of PE9, you have the IGN® MAG or EVO. The IGN® system is delivered ready for use with a full bottle of CALBENIUM®. To change the bottle, refer to § 6.2.3, page 44.

15 2.4 Optional equipment

2.4.1 Basin

The glass bowl is removable for easier cleaning. It is mounted on a pivot: positioning and access for the patient are facilitated. The bowl-rinsing and glass-filling spray can be controlled by the touch keypad or the pedal.

2.4.2 Surgical lighting

Optional on the PE9, the surgical lighting can either be suspended from the ceiling or mounted on a floor column.

Available in a halogen (ISA model) or LED version (POLARIS or IRIS model).

The surgical lighting is controlled by the touch keypad or by the touch screen.

Sensitive cell versions cannot be controlled by the keyboard.

2.4.3 Amalgam separator Due to amalgam separator standards, a place is provided in the foot of the unit to enable the basin to be connected to an amalgam separator.

For any operation concerning the amalgam separator, refer to the manufacturer's instructions.

16 2.4.4 CCTV camera

The camera is usually installed near the dental practice's intercom system.

The Wi-Fi surveillance camera is compatible with the Evolution model. The image is viewed directly on the console screen.

3. Use

The PE9 unit is delivered with factory settings that were used to check that it is working properly. The practitioner will have to modify these pre-settings in order to adapt the chair and the unit to their setting and working methods.

3.1 Power on/off

The console screen turns on automatically when the unit is switched on.

17 3.2 Adjusting the headrest

The headrest tilt and positioning settings are carried out manually. The PE9 headrest comes in two versions: mechanically locked or pneumatically assisted.

3.2.1 Mechanical locking

3.2.2 Pneumatic assistance

3.3 Ambidextrous positioning

The PE9 equipment is perfectly symmetrical regardless of the position of the practitioner and the assistant. The equipment arms are mounted on independent pivots. Their independence offers a maximum range of rotation. Positioning both on the left and on the right takes just a few seconds: take hold of the sensitive handle of the element and move it to the desired position.

20 3.4.3 Wireless progressive pedal

The progressive wireless pedal is compatible with the PE9 Evolution equipment. The pedal controls are identical to § 3.4, page 19.

• The wireless pedal is equipped with a lithium polymer battery (LiPo). • Battery life: about 15 days of use. • Towards the end of the battery life, a low battery icon appears at the top right of the Evolution screen. You must then recharge the battery of the pedal.

Charging the battery

Use only the 5V charger supplied to charge the wireless pedal battery.

• Charger power supply: 230 V / 50Hz • Charging time: 2 hours minimum • The LiPo battery is not sensitive to quick charges or overcharging: it can be recharged at any time.

• There is an indicator light under the pedal when the pedal is connected to the mains; it allows you to check that the charger is not defective.

6. HYGIENE AND MAINTENANCE

6.1 General Information

• PE9 dental equipment requires regular maintenance. In addition to the required sterilisation of rotating instruments and suction cannulas, great care must be taken when cleaning and disinfecting. • A PE9 maintenance guide is presented according to the frequency of the operations to be carried out (see p. 45). • The procedure for each maintenance operation is then presented in detail. • These operations as a whole constitute the IGN®-CALBENIUM® maintenance and hygiene protocol, the aim of which is to prevent biofilm from forming in the cords. • To complete the asepsis of PE9 equipment, the disinfection protocol is recommended with a frequency of 15 days, especially in hospital settings.

For the maintenance and sterilisation of instruments comply with the instructions of each manufacturer.

6.2 CALBENIUM®

6.2.1 Storage • Keep the product in its original packaging • Store the product vertically • Storage temperature: 5°C minimum to 25°C maximum • Validity period: In the original unopened packaging: 2 years from the date of manufacture. • Once uncapped: 2 months from the date of opening.

43 6.2.2 Precautions for use • Wear safety glasses designed to protect against liquid splashes. • Wear appropriate protective gloves in case of prolonged or repeated contact with the skin. • In case of contact with eyes, wash with running water and seek medical advice. • In case of skin contact, wash with running water. • Do not discard into the environment. • Can produce an allergic reaction.

When the bottle is completely empty or when the validity date has been exceeded, keep the label on the bottle. Return the bottle and its contents to an approved collector.

6.2.3 CALBENIUM refill

The one litre bottle of CALBENIUM® can treat 50 litres of water, which represents on average 6 weeks of work.

When the bottle is practically empty, an icon on the home screen indicates the low level (on Neo and Evolution screens) and a buzzer sounds every 15 minutes. There remains approximately 1 day of use during which the bottle must be changed.

Once this reserve has been used the buzzer sounds continuously. It is then imperative to stop any operations using the PE9 and replace the bottle.

To replace the bottle of CALBENIUM®: 1. Place the chair in the high position using the chair control keypad. 2. Switch off the unit (on/off button) 3. Lift up the removable cover 4. Unscrew the empty bottle. Remove the bottle from underneath 5. Insert a new bottle of CALBENIUM® into the holder from underneath; screw back in as far as it will go 6. Close the cover 7. Return the unit to service

IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS - Always keep one spare bottle of CALBENIUM®. - Never force the use of the PE9 when the bottle is empty.The system may suck in air, causing the solution to dry in the pipes and form plugs.

45 6.4 Maintenance procedures

6.4.1 Using Calbépuls Calbépuls® is used for external decontamination of the instrument head, using air pressure jet and CALBENIUM solution® followed by a period of drying under air.

• Immerse one instrument at a time only into the Calbépuls®. Inserting the instrument into the pot automatically triggers the Calbépuls®.

• The decontamination duration can be adapted according to the treatment process and the condition of the instrument. For Calbépuls settings®, refer to the following paragraphs: Evolution § 5.4.6

Use Calbépuls® when necessary during a consultation. After each patient, Calbépuls® is used for the pre-cleaning of the instruments.

Warning: This operation is not a substitute for the sterilisation of instruments.

6.4.2 Using Aspisept Aspisept® is a system for the internal decontamination of suction cords using Calbénium® solution.

• Release the Aspisept® orifice by rotating the shelf of the assistant station. • Insert the 2 aspiration cannula one after the other into the Aspisept® for at least 30 seconds. • The system is activated when the end of the cord presses against an internal ring, and stops when the pressure is released.

Use the Aspisept® when necessary during consultation. Also use after each patient.

46 6.4.3 Cleaning the bowl of the basin

• Lift the bowl taking care not to knock it (glass). • Clean with a non-abrasive product.

6.4.4 Cleaning the assistant station filter

6.4.5 Disinfection of the suction cords

MUST BE READ BEFORE DISINFECTION - Do not use foaming products such as household cleaners or instrument disinfectants. - Do not suction in bleach. This would weaken the corrugated cords of the PE8. - Most amalgam separation and recovery systems available on the market are foam sensitive. The use of foaming products may cause malfunctions in their operation. - Respect the recommended action times for the disinfectant solution, before suctioning in water to flush out the circuits. Premature rinsing would negate the effect of the disinfection and result in the formation of dangerous germs in the suction system.

47 6.4.5.1 Daily disinfection - 1 L

Recommended product: OROTOL PLUS from Dürr-Dental.

Steps Details Illustration 1 Fill the OROCUP with 2 L of water and suction to flush the pipe.

2 Unscrew the cap of the Orocup bottle and pour in 1 or 2 L of warm water, as needed. The 2nd litre can be used to disinfect the basin for another treatment station. Follow the temperature indications on the product.

3 Add the recommended quantity of disinfectant (1 cap of OROTOL PLUS per litre). Follow the directions on the bottle or package.

4 Screw the cap back on. Shake the Orocup well.

5 Place the Orocup in a vertical position. Open the lid of the Orocup stopper and insert the suction cannula on the tips provided for this in the stopper. If necessary, use adapters.

6 Hold the Orocup upright and suck up 1 L of disinfectant solution.

Use the 2nd litre to disinfect the basin.

7 Remove the cannulas from the Orocup tips and replace them in their holders. The disinfection is complete.

48 6.4.5.2 Weekly disinfection - 2 L

Recommended product: OROTOL MD555 from Dürr-Dental.

7 Leave the disinfectant solution to act for ½ hour minimum to 2 hours maximum. 8 After this time, put 2 L of water in the Orocup and suction to flush the system.

6.4.6 Cleaning the instrument holders

On whip arm console: • The rubber instrument holders are disassembled by gently pulling from the top. • Clean with soapy water. • Put in the autoclave if necessary (maximum temperature 135°C)

On console with hanging cords, and on the assistant station: • Unclip the removable guides. • Clean with soapy water.

6.4.7 Decontamination of instrument cords

6.4.9 Maintenance of external surfaces

IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS - Do not use abrasive products for cleaning surfaces. - Do not suction bleach into the cords. - Do not use alcohol-based products or wipes. - Never spray the shelf or screens with a spray. This may result in premature damage to surface materials, with the appearance of spots or drips.

The water filter is mounted upstream of the water regulator. With transparency we can check if it contains impurities. If necessary, call an authorised technician.

The following operations are to be carried out annually by an authorised technician: • Replacement of suction hoses and tips. • Replacement of the general water filter. • Lubrication of the worm gear of the motor. • Correcting the sliding slack of the headrest rod. • Possible hardening of the rotations of the console arm

If the annual preventive maintenance is followed, the life of the device is 10 years.

The availability of spare parts is 10 years from the last device sold.

8.2 Foaming of sprays

• Thanks to the action of the CALBENIUM®, the flow of the sprays can be limited to 50 mL/min while maintaining the teeth cleaning, lubrication and cooling qualities. • It may occur that the spray becomes foamy, especially when the flow is too high. If foam appears: • First reduce the spray air pressure • If necessary reduce the flow of spray water. • The flow rate to the turbine can be measured with a measuring cylinder in ml, rotating the instrument under spray for one minute. Wait for the foam to collapse before measuring the volume in the test tube. This gives an indication of the flow rate in mL/min.
