Volume 6 & 7. Since our last volume was published, there has been a continuing revival of interest in Arabian horse breeding in the Kingdom of Jordan. Once again, we have seen marked increase in the number of imports and exports in the period covered by this volume, from many countries, and a consequent increase in the number of private breeders with Supervised Studs, and of owners who take part in the many activities available for Arabian horses in the country. In this volume, we are therefore following the format as used in Volume 6 & 7. We have also added ISO codes of the country of birth for all imported horses, for the interest of stud book users. All Broodmares with Produce entered in this volume are listed alphabetically by name, and the foals are shown underneath each mare’s entry with the data arranged as follows:- Year of Colour, Name of foal Name of Name of Breeder birth Sex Sire The protocol used in R.J.S.B. is that the named breeder of each foal is the owner of the dam at the time of the foal’s birth. All Sires with Progeny entered in this volume are also listed alphabetically by name, and the foals are shown underneath each stallion’s entry with the data arranged as follows:- Year of birth Name of foal Colour, Sex Name of Dam If a stallion is domiciled overseas, as in the case of imports in utero and foals that are produced by the use of imported semen, the sign § is used after the stallion’s name and country of birth ISO Code, to denote that the particular stallion is not registered in R.J.S.B. 1 ABBREVIATIONS USED IN THIS VOLUME Stud Book Codes and ISO-Country Codes: Stud Book Country ISO Code Code Argentina SBA AR Australia AHSA AU Belgium BAPS BE Brazil BRSB BR Canada CAHR CA Denmark DSAH DK Egypt EAO EG Egypt (supervised Studs) EAOPB EG France SBFAR FR Germany GASB DE Hungary ASBB HU Iraq IRAQ IQ Israel IASB IL Italy ITSB IT Jordan RJSB JO Netherlands AVS NL New Zealand NZHS NZ Poland PASB PL Qatar QASB QA Romania ROSB RO Russia RASB RU Saudi Arabia SAUDI SA Spain SSB ES Sweden SESB SE United Arab Emirates UAE AE United Kingdom AHSB GB United States of America AHR US Uruguay UASB UY 2 Other Abbreviations used in this Volume: bl. black c. colt ch. chestnut D.B. desert bred d.bay dar bay d.o.b. date of birth f. filly im. imorted i.i.u. imorted in utero li. ch. liver chestnut . page Su. Wallace California Botanic Garden [formerly Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden], 1500 North College Avenue, Claremont, California 91711 ([email protected]) abstract An account of the extent, diversity, and importance of the Californian collections of Thomas Coulter in the herbarium (TCD) of Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland, is presented here. It is based on examination of collections in TCD, several other collections available online, and referenced literature. Additional infor- mation on historical context, content of herbarium labels and annotations is included. Coulter’s collections in TCD are less well known than partial duplicate sets at other herbaria. He was the first botanist to cross the desert of southern California to the Colorado River. Coulter’s collections in TCD include not only 60 vascular plant specimens previously unidentified as type material but also among the first moss andmarine algae specimens known to be collected in California. A list of taxa named for Thomas Coulter is included.

Apple Blossoms Wild Apple Tree THE WRITINGS OF HENRY DAVID THOREAU EXCURSIONS AND POEMS BOSTON AND NEW YORK HOUGHTON MIFFLIN AND COMPANY MDCCCCVI COPYRIGHT 1865 AND 1866 BY TICKNOR AND FIELDS COPYRIGHT 1893 AND 1906 BY HOUGHTON, MIFFLIN & CO. All rights reserved INTRODUCTORY NOTE THE "Excursions" of the present volume follow the arrangement of the volume bearing that title in the Riverside Edition, which differed somewhat as to contents from the "Excursions" collected by Thoreau's sister after his death, and published in 1863 by Messrs. Ticknor & Fields. The Biographical Sketch by Emerson which prefaced the latter appears in the first volume of the present edition. "A Yankee in Canada," which here, as in the Riverside Edition, is made the first of the series of Excursions, was formerly published in a volume with "Anti-Slavery and Reform Papers." Thoreau made this excursion to Canada with his friend Ellery Channing, and sent his narrative to Mr. Greeley, who wrote him regarding it, March 18, 1852: "I shall get you some money for the articles you sent me, though not immediately. As to your long account of a Canadian tour, I don't know. It looks unmanageable. Can't you cut it into three or four, and omit all that relates to time? The cities are described to death, but I know you are at home with Nature, and that she rarely and slowly changes. Break this up, if you can, and I will try to have it swallowed and digested." Thoreau appears to have taken Greeley's advice, and the narrative was divided into chapters.
