Essai de methode historique, 1961,Tervuren, Musée Royal de l’Afrique centrale, x + 179 old. majd angolul: Oral Tradition. A Study in Historical Methodology, translated by H. M. Wright, 1965, Chicago, Aldine Publ. Co., 226 old.– Penguin kia- dás: 1973). Utóbb több alkalommal is – számba véve a tudományos fejlemé- nyeket – különféle dolgozatokkal körbe járta, bővítette (egy olasz kiadás- ban), majd újra írta a mind népszerűbbé váló témakört. Elektronikus gyűjte- ményünkbe felvett jelen kötet ezt az újraírt változatot tartalmazza, mivel ez a kötet volt digitalizált formában szabadon elérhető. Mindemellett hadd idézzük a következőket a rövidesen magyarul megje- lenő alapmű (az 1961-es francia változatból készült) előszavának néhány részletét pontosítás céljából: Vansina… 1983-ban megírta könyvét egy másik változatban (1985) is. Néhány kritikusa azt állította róla, elkészítésének oka az volt, hogy Vansina immár pesszimisztikusabbnak érzi a szóbeli történelem kutatásának lehető- ségeit, és igyekszik szembenézni annak korlátozott voltával. Némileg jel- lemző, hogy Jan Assmann ezt a második művet és nem a francia (1961) és az angol (1965) alapművet használja elemzéseihez (4) (lásd: A kulturális emlé- kezet, eredeti német nyelvű kiadás: 1992, első magyar nyelvű kiadás: 1999). Más kérdés, hogy e második könyv létrejöttében semmiféle pesszimizmus nem munkált. Inkább arról van szó, hogy Vansina – elhagyva pl. a tudo- mánytörténeti részt – még inkább tankönyvesíteni akarta munkáját. Másrészt a jelen kötetbe beillesztett, az 1976-os olasz kiadás részére készített kiegészí- tő könyvrész módjára számba akarta venni az elmúlt több mint két (1961– 1985 közötti) évtized fejleményeit. Mellesleg még a professzor életében, de már a 21. század első évtizedében újra megjelent a régi teljesebbnek tartható alapszöveg, több nyelven is (lásd: pl.: 2009, New Brunswick – London, Aldine Transaction).     Online Appendix for Harald Hammarstr¨om& Mark Donohue (2014) Some Principles of the Use of Macro-Areas Language Dynamics & Change Harald Hammarstr¨om& Mark Donohue The following document lists the languages of the world and their as- signment to the macro-areas described in the main body of the paper as well as the WALS macro-area for languages featured in the WALS 2005 edi- tion. 7160 languages are included, which represent all languages for which we had coordinates available1. Every language is given with its ISO-639-3 code (if it has one) for proper identification. The mapping between WALS languages and ISO-codes was done by using the mapping downloadable from the 2011 online WALS edition2 (because a number of errors in the mapping were corrected for the 2011 edition). 38 WALS languages are not given an ISO-code in the 2011 mapping, 36 of these have been assigned their appropri- ate iso-code based on the sources the WALS lists for the respective language. This was not possible for Tasmanian (WALS-code: tsm) because the WALS mixes data from very different Tasmanian languages and for Kualan (WALS- code: kua) because no source is given. 17 WALS-languages were assigned ISO-codes which have subsequently been retired { these have been assigned their appropriate updated ISO-code. In many cases, a WALS-language is mapped to several ISO-codes.     Social Science in Humanitarian Action ka# www.socialscienceinaction.org # # # Key considerations: the context of Équateur Province, DRC This brief summarises key considerations about the context of Équateur Province in relation to the outbreak of Ebola in the DRC, June 2018. Further participatory enquiry should be undertaken with the affected population, but given ongoing transmission, conveying key considerations for the response in Équateur Province has been prioritised. This brief is based on a rapid review of existing published and grey literature, professional ethnographic research in the broader equatorial region of DRC, personal communication with administrative and health officials in the country, and experience of previous Ebola outbreaks. In shaping this brief, informal discussions were held with colleagues from UNICEF, WHO, IFRC and the GOARN Social Science Group, and input was also given by expert advisers from the Institut Pasteur, CNRS-MNHN-Musée de l’Homme Paris, KU Leuven, Social Science Research Council, Paris School of Economics, Institut de Recherche pour le Développment, Réseau Anthropologie des Epidémies Emergentes, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of Edinburgh, Stellenbosch University, University of Wisconsin, Tufts University, Institute of Development Studies, Anthrologica and others. Brodey and Todd Ramón Ochoa) This dissertation is a critical analysis and annotated translation, from Spanish into English, of the book Reglas de Congo: Palo Monte Mayombe, by the Cuban anthropologist, artist, and writer Lydia Cabrera (1899-1991). Cabrera’s text is a hybrid ethnographic book of religion, slave narratives (oral history), and folklore (songs, poetry) that she devoted to a group of Afro-Cubans known as “los Congos de Cuba,” descendants of the Africans who were brought to the Caribbean island of Cuba during the trans-Atlantic Ocean African slave trade from the former Kongo Kingdom, which occupied the present-day southwestern part of Congo-Kinshasa, Congo-Brazzaville, Cabinda, and northern Angola. The Kongo Kingdom had formal contact with Christianity through the Kingdom of Portugal as early as the 1490s.

The publication of these first three books attests to the fact that the 2003 Convention has now reached the crucial operational phase. The successful implementation of this ground-breaking legal instrument remains one of UNESCO’s priority actions, and one to which I am firmly committed. In 2008, before my election as Director-General of UNESCO, I had the privilege of chairing one of the sessions of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, in Sofia, Bulgaria. This enriching experience reinforced my personal convictions regarding the significance of intangible cultural heritage, its fragility, and the urgent need to safeguard it for future generations. Mbiavanga Fernando Abstract The relation between verbal affixes and their effect on the predicate argument structure of the verbs that host them has been the focus of many studies in linguistics, with special reference to Bantu languages in recent years. Given the colonial policy on indigenous languages in Angola, Kikongo, as is the case of other Bantu languages in that country, has not been sufficiently studied. This study explores the form and function of six verbal affixes, including the order in which they occur in the verb stem. The study maintains that the applicative and causative are valency-increasing verbal affixes and, as such, give rise to double object constructions in Kikongo. The passive, reciprocal, reflexive and stative are valency-decreasing and, as such, they reduce the valency of the verb by one object.
