Donghwasa Temple is the 9th parish temple of Korean Buddhism Jogyejong, representing Palgong Mountain. It’s located to the south of Palgong Mountain 22km northeast away from Daegu downtown area. There is famous buddha named Gatbawi and it has a nationwide reputation as a relief and faithful place where one wishes can be heard when praying to Gatbawi Buddha. DAEGU THEME TOUR: NAKDONG RIVER TOUR The Nakdong River is the longest river in South Korea, and passes through major cities such as Daegu and Busan. On the templegrounds, there are a number of relics from the Unified Silla period such as stone lanterns and a stone seated Buddha statue and also relics from the Goryeo period including Muryangsujeon Hall and Josadang Shrine. CHEONGSONG (JUWANGSAN MOUNTAIN) TOUR Juwangsan Mountain is one of the three rocky mountains in Korea with rocky peaks and strangely shaped cliffs made from a volcanic eruption about 70 million years ago. Students are invited to join Cheongsong Apple festival which is held in October and November to promote the quality apples grown in the area. GYEONGJU (BULGUKSA TEMPLE) TOUR Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto are the essence of the culture of Silla. Bulguksa Temple is a beautiful work of architecture built during the Silla period and it is known for important cultural relic. Seokguram Grotto shows the religion, wishes, architectural skills, and sculpture technique of the people of Silla. Both of them are inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Seoul is home to fascinating blend of traditions and cutting-edge technology, and unique districts. Students will visit Gyeonbokgung, a grand Chosun dynasty's palace and Myeondong, a large upscale shopping district. BUSAN TOUR Busan is Korea's second most populous city after Seoul. It is economic and cultural center of southeastern area of Korea and also and the host of Busan International Film festival. Students will visit Haeundae, the largest beach in Korea, Busan Cinema Center and Busan Camcheon Culture village. JINHAE TOUR Jinhae is a small port city in Changwon area. Annually, this small and beautiful city organizes the biggest Spring festival in Korea-Gunhang je Cherry blossom festival. Visitors will mesmerized by the sight of 350,000 cherry blossom tress. I N T E R N A T I O N A L S T U D E N T S PAGE 5 CULTURAL ACTIVITIES CULTURAL AEGU IDE D TOURS OUTS MUNGYEONG TOUR The Mungyeong area is believed to have been controlled by Jinhan and Byeonhan states during Samhan Period. Mungyeong Saejae, the mountain pass where the old road from Busan to Seoul passed over the Sobaek mountains and out of the Gyeongsang region, and now is a one of the most famous tourist spot for Korean historical drama fans. GORYEONG TOUR The Goryeong area is believed to be a historical center of the ancient kingdom of Daegaya and is now famous for their locally grown strawberries. In April, Goryeong holds Daegaya Experience Festival, students will get a chance to learn and experience about Daegya's history and culture. Also, students can harvest strawberries from the nearby farm. I N T E R N A T I O N A L S T U D E N T S PAGE 6 CULTURAL ACTIVITIES LOCAL LS TIVA Y FES U CIT EVENTS DAEG DAEGU LANTERN FESTIVAL (APRIL) Every year, Daegu is organizing the Lantern Festival. The festival is held to celebrate Buddha’s birthday, but distinguishes itself among other festivals with its Wish Lantern Flying event Following the release of sky lanterns, there will be a fireworks show and then the Lantern Parade will march the streets of Daegu. COLORFUL DAEGU FESTIVAL (MAY) During the month of May, The Daegu Colorful Festival will be held for two days. The festival features various events for people to watch and enjoy, including the largest parade in Asia, street art festival, art market, food trucks, and C hildren’s Day programs. YANGYEONSI HERBAL MEDICINE FESTIVAL (MAY) Yangnyeong Market was the hub of the nation’s supply of oriental medicinal herbs for over 350 years, and Yakjeon Street has become a cultural heritage site preserving the medicinal wisdom of ancestors. Since 1978, the Daegu Yangnyeong Festival has been held annually, and is a much-loved regional culture festival in Daegu. DAEGU CHIMAC FESTIVAL (JULY) Every year, Daegu is organizing the Daegu Chimac festiva, one of South Korea’s more popular summer festivals—celebrates what Koreans love to enjoy, chicken and beer-"Chimac" for short. The festival will showcase 61 programs under five themes related to chicken and beer to entertain visitors. A korean tea expert will lead you to the unique experience. This experience helps students to enhance Korean traditional food and custom. TAEKWONDO CLASS (ALL YEAR ROUND) Taekwondo is the most well known Korean traditional sports.It has become a globally recognized sport where practitioners improve both their physical ability and mental strength. This program will help students to learn spirit of respecting peace and justice rooted in Taekwondo. SAMULNOLI (ALL YEAR ROUND) SamulNori is the name of a group of four dynamic musicians dedicated to performing and preserving traditional Korean music and dance. During the pro garm, students will play Korean traditional percussion instruments. K-POP DANCE CLASS (ALL YEAR ROUND) K-pop is now a renowned cultural move worldwide. Students will get a chance to learn K-pop dance from expert dancers. This program will offer you unique and fun Kpop dance experience.
