Tešíme sa naň my čo znamená pre návštevníka sedem príjemných filmových dní v Piešťanoch, domáci v Piešťanoch, ale aj veľa ľudí rôznych vekových kategórií zo všetkých znamená pre nás organizátorov dvanásť mesiacov vymýšľania a vytvárania kútov Slovenska i blízkych či vzdialenejších krajín. Medzi kinom Fontána nového ročníka festivalu. Preto som vďačný celému štábu or- a zároveň zaväzujúcich správ na Facebooku, blogoch či na oficiálnej stránke ganizátorov, podporovateľov a sponzorov za to, že nám všetkým umožňujú festivalu. Pochvala, kritika, nápady sú pre nás nesmierne dôležité, aby sme byť účastníkmi tejto filmovej udalosti a že sa každoročne s nadšením púšťajú pre vás pripravili čo najlepší filmový týždeň. Ak by mohol mať tento úvodný do prípravy festivalu, aby boli všetci spokojní. Welcome dear friends of film art, Dear film lovers, Seven relaxing film days in Piešťany for our visitors mean twelve months spent creating a new festival edition for us, the organizers. It’s not exactly easy, but for the sixth time, the beginning of September is dedicated to Cinematik.     LITERARY BITS Module 2 WORKING IN DIGITAL ROBERT HARRIS • ENIGMA ABOUT THE AUTHOR ROBERT HARRIS Robert Harris was born in Nottingham, UK, in 1957. After graduating at Cambridge, he worked as a journalist for the BBC and assisted on shows that covered important current events. He became a political commentator, was the editor of The Observer, a UK political paper, and wrote articles on politics in many other newspapers. He started his writing career in the 1980s and since then he has written a number of fictional thrillers, often related to political events, and eight novels have become bestsellers. He wrote novels related to World War Two such as ‘Fatherland’ (1992), his first bestseller, and ‘Enigma’ (1995), but also stories set in other historical periods like ‘Pompeii’ (2003). R. Harris ABOUT THE NOVEL ENIGMA The novel is a blend between a historical novel and a mystery novel which mixes up reality and fiction. The story is set in 1943 when much of Nazi Enigma Code has already been cracked.     43e Festival International du Film de La Rochelle du 26 juin au 5 juillet 2015 LE PUZZLE DES CINÉMAS DU MONDE Une fois de plus nous revient l’impossible tâche de synthétiser une édition multiforme, tant par le nombre de films présentés que par les contextes dans lesquels ils ont été conçus. Nous ne pouvons nous résoudre à en sélectionner beaucoup moins, ce n’est pas faute d’essayer, et de toutes manières, un contexte économique plutôt inquiétant nous y contraint ; mais qu’une ou plusieurs pièces essentielles viennent à manquer au puzzle mental dont nous tentons, à l’année, de joindre les pièces irrégulières, et le Festival nous paraîtrait bancal. Finalement, ce qui rassemble tous ces films, qu’ils soient encore matériels ou virtuels (50/50), c’est nous, sélectionneuses au long cours. Nous souhaitons proposer aux spectateurs un panorama généreux de la chose filmique, cohérent, harmonieux, digne, sincère, quoique, la sincérité… Ambitieux aussi car nous aimons plus que tout les cinéastes qui prennent des risques et notre devise secrète pourrait bien être : mieux vaut un bon film raté qu’un mauvais film réussi. Et enfin, il nous plaît que les films se parlent, se rencontrent, s’éclairent les uns les autres et entrent en résonance dans l’esprit du festivalier. En 2015, nous avons procédé à un rééquilibrage géographique vers l’Asie, absente depuis plusieurs éditions de la programmation. I appear to be a definite minority in my opinion but had to voice it anyway. Since history is so interesting I often wonder why I pick up a a"what if" book based on a mix of fact and fiction.     Activity results for 2015 Eurimages, the Council of Europe Fund for the co-production, distribution and exhibition of European cinematographic works has 37 member states1. The Fund’s President is Jobst Plog. SOME KEY FIGURES In 2015, the total amount of support granted by the Fund amounted to €24 923 250, distributed as follows: Share of the Support Programme total amount Total amount allocated allocated €22 619 895 was awarded to European producers for Co-production 90.76% 92 European co-productions. 55.76% of projects submitted were supported. €1 253 477 was allocated to the two schemes in the distribution support programme: Distribution 5.03% Scheme 1, support for marketing and publicity expenses; Scheme 2, support for awareness raising of European cinema2.     ATLANTIS Journal of the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies 38.1 (June 2016): 89-107 issn 0210-6124 “But What’s One More Murder?” Confronting the Holocaust in Philip Kerr’s Bernie Gunther Novels Anthony Lake Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates [email protected] Philip Kerr’s Bernie Gunther series of Nazi Germany-set historical crime novels use irony in the exploration of themes of complicity, guilt and redemption in relation to the Holocaust. The use of irony enables Kerr’s protagonist Bernie Gunther to confront and describe the Holocaust and establish his sense of selfhood as an anti-Nazi. However, it does not empower him to resist the Nazis actively. Bernie seeks to confront the Holocaust and describe his experiences as an unwilling Holocaust perpetrator when he led an SS police battalion at Minsk in 1941. Later, his feelings of guilt at his complicity with the Nazis in the Holocaust haunt him, and he seeks redemption by pursuing justice to solve conventional murders. The redemption that Bernie Gunther pursues is called into question in the ninth novel in the series, A Man Without Breath (2013), when the possibility of active resistance to the Nazis is revealed to him when he witnesses the Rosenstrasse Protests in Berlin in 1943. This revelation raises the questions of agency and choice, and forces an ordinary German like Bernie Gunther to confront the possibility that he might have actively opposed the Nazis, rather than allow himself to become their accomplice.
