Best regards, Norm Silverstein [email protected] @normWXXI Q&A WITH A WXXI UNDERWRITER SEABREEZE AMUSEMENT PARK has been a favorite summertime regional destination for generations. John Norris, Vice President, explains its enduring appeal. Q. How would you describe Seabreeze? How long has the park been in operation? Seabreeze is a family-oriented amusement park and waterpark, located on the bluffs overlooking Lake Ontario and Irondequoit Bay. The park is entering its 136th season of operation. NTS Q. As the 4th oldest amusement park in America, what has been a significant factor to its longevity? One of the most significant factors is that it has been owned and operated by the same family since the 1940’s. The first generation came to Seabreeze in 1904 as carousel concessionaires, the fifth generation now manages the park, and the sixth generation is also actively involved. Q. What is the annual attendance at Seabreeze? Any idea about the number of hot dogs sold? Seabreeze entertains hundreds of thousands of people from Rochester, the Finger Lakes, Syracuse, and Southern Tier areas. Last year the park sold 49,416 hot dogs! EVE Q. What separates Seabreeze from other amusement parks in the Northeast? We have a strong appeal to young families. We’re not too small and not too big. There’s also a sense of history and tradition at Seabreeze, with generations of families visiting the park, seeing old & photos and classic rides, and making new memories. Q. What would you like the WXXI audience to know about Seabreeze? S If you haven’t visited the park in the past few years, so much has changed! The best days to visit are weekdays. On Mondays all summer, senior citizens get a free Spectator Pass which allows them access to the grounds. Q. What do visitors feel is the most nostalgic ride at the park? The Jack Rabbit is the oldest continuously operating roller coaster in America. It serves as a true “rite of passage” for children when they reach 48 inches tall and can finally ride! EW Q. What is the most popular ride/attraction at Seabreeze? It’s a tie between the Jack Rabbit and the Whirlwind, our spinning steel roller coaster. A close third is everyone’s favorite, the Bumper Cars. seabreeze.com N JOHN NORRIS, VICE PRESIDENT To learn more about underwriting on WXXI, email [email protected] CAMPAIGN UPDATE The “Go Public” Campaign is a critical $17 million effort for the future of WXXI.
