Atlas F1 Magazine: title Technically Challenged: Renault Innovations in Formula One end title Technically Challenged: Renault Innovations in Formula One By Craig Scarborough, England Atlas F1 Technical Writer Since making their debut in the 1977 season, the Renault Formula One team have always been breaking new ground in terms of technology, ignoring the established routes and opting for innovative approaches. Atlas F1's Craig Scarborough reviews Renault's history of technological breakthroughs, from the first turbo engine to the innovative OPT system Renault have used motorsport to demonstrate their technology for many years. While other motorsport arenas have seen Renault's participation, it has been Formula One that has seen Renault's greatest input and most influential work, dating back to 1977 with the debut of an all French team from the tyres to the fuel, from the drivers to the chassis. The eighties dawned and Renault were winning races and supplying engines to other teams. A change of heart lead the team to leave Formula One briefly, returning with a new breed of engine, the V10, at the end of that decade. Such was Renault's dominance in the nineties they left F1 once more, only to return in the new millenium with another ground breaking engine, the wide angle V10. But this time as a full manufacturer, allowing Renault to demonstrate their undersung chassis technology as well as their engines. For nearly 30 years, Renault has used F1 as a platform to learn technology and show the world how it applies that technology. Before F1 Pre dating their involvement with Formula One, Renault had a motorsport history throughout the first half of the century dating right back to the Renault brothers original business in 1899. -

February7, 2019 Toyota Motor Corporation GAZOO Racing Company TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Outlines 2019 Motorsports Activities TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is a racing company positioning motorsports activities as the basis of our quest to create ever-better cars. From products developed through these activities to the establishment of the GR Garage, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s motorsports activities have been promoted as a comprehensive method of increasing numbers of car fans. At last month’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, we unveiled the new “Supra,” which is set to become the first global model in the GR series line-up. The new Supra incorporates the knowledge and know-how that TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has accumulated thus far, and has been developed with the goal of enabling customers to fully experience the joy of driving. We have positioned the new Supra as our flagship model and, by feeding back knowledge gained through motorsports activities into the development of new products, we intend to further expand the GR series line-up. In 2018, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing achieved the long-desired goal of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans and also secured the WRC manufacturers’ title, demonstrating that the challenges we have embarked on are leading to concrete results. However, we will not rest on our laurels. In order to deliver the anticipation and excitement of driving to a wider audience, we will engage in the motorsports activities listed below in 2019. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing will compete in the 2019-2020 WEC season. (The driver line-up will be announced at a later date.)With team line-ups, we will also compete in the Nürburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race and other races in Japan respectively. -

The Aston Martin Vantage GTE is based on the critically-acclaimed Aston Martin Vantage road car, the most performance oriented sports car to come from Aston Martin’s ‘Second Century Plan’. Powered by a 4.0-litre, V8 turbo-charged AMG engine developed and optimised by AMR, the Vantage GTE is the first all-new GT car Aston Martin has introduced to the FIA WEC GTE category in seven years. Following an extensive 10-month testing and development programme that has covered 35,000km and 14 different circuits, the team is confident that it has a competitive and reliable car capable of repeating Aston Martin Racing's 2017 Le Mans 24 Hours glory in June and contending for the overall Super Season GTE Pro title. Aston Martin Racing also boasts a world class driving line-up in 2018. FELIX ROSENQVIST TAKING A SUSTAINABLE VIEW ON MOTORSPORT A multiple title winner and frontrunner in every championship he ever contested, Sweden’s Felix Rosenqvist is one of the most exciting up-and-coming talents in international motorsport. The 2013 campaign saw Rosenqvist engulfed in a dramatic two-way scrap for the prestigious FIA Formula 3 European Championship title, eventually finishing second to Ferrari-backed Italian Raffaele Marciello. Rosenqvist also made history by winning the blue-riband Masters of Formula 3 event – Europe’s most important F3 race – for a second time. Felix Rosenqvist is backed by the official Mercedes- Benz young driver development programme. Following his 2013 achievements, he was ranked among the world’s top 50 drivers – all categories. Press Release March 8, 2019 Preview, World Endurance Championship WEC, round 6 in Sebring/USA Porsche aims for victory at the FIA WEC’s return to Sebring Stuttgart. Porsche tackles the first Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC race at Sebring since 2012 as the points’ leader. After five of the season’s eight rounds, the works team with its two ca. 510 hp Porsche 911 RSR ranks first in the manufactur- ers’, drivers’ and team categories. Three customer squads field four other identical vehicle models in the GTE-Am category. With the WEC held as a joint event alongside the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship from March 13-16, a total of eight Porsche 911 RSR vehicles will be competing on the legendary Sebring circuit. The race Sebring has hosted the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC only once since the launch of the series. In 2012, works drivers Marc Lieb (Germany), Richard Lietz (Austria) and Patrick Pilet (France) finished in second place. In the long history of endurance racing at Sebring, Porsche is by far the most successful manufacturer, with a total of 18 overall victories going to the marque from Weissach. The most recent victory was in 2008 thanks to Timo Bernhard (Germany), Romain Dumas (France) and Emmanuel Collard (France) at the wheel of a Porsche RS Spyder. The Porsche GT Team drivers Richard Lietz (Austria) and Gianmaria Bruni (Italy) tackle the 1,000-mile race (or eight hours) with the No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR car. The pair achieved second place at the Shanghai round of the 2018/2019 Super Season. -

Toyota Gazoo Racing Wins Le Mans June 17, 2018 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing wins the 86th Le Mans 24 Hours, taking an historic first victory at its 20th attempt. Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Fernando Alonso in the #8 TS050 HYBRID started from pole position and took the chequered flag after 388 tense and often dramatic laps at the Circuit de La Sarthe to extend their lead in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López, who led for long periods in the #7 TS050 HYBRID, made it a perfect result for TOYOTA with second place in front of 256,900 fans. TOYOTA, which had entered 47 cars at Le Mans prior to this weekend’s race and finished on the podium six times, becomes only the second Japanese manufacturer to win at La Sarthe, while Kazuki is the first Japanese driver to win in a Japanese car. The result is a culmination of intense and determined efforts by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing colleagues from Higashi-Fuji and Cologne to continually enhance its hybrid-electric technology, which won this weekend’s race using 35% less fuel than in 2012, when it returned to endurance racing. The two TS050 HYBRIDs were evenly matched throughout the 5,286km and swapped places several times during a race which featured its share of drama for the leaders. Two stop-go penalties for the #8 car, compared to one for the sister car, required an impressive night time stint from Fernando to come back into contention on a day when all drivers performed exceptionally in a high- pressure environment.
