Subaru Re-Affirms Commitment to Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship Cherry Hill, N.J. May 17, 2016 - Subaru of America, Inc. has announced a multi-year plan for Subaru Rally Team USA’s participation in the burgeoning Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship. Subaru Rally Team USA, jointly managed by Subaru motorsports arm Subaru Tecnica International and Subaru technical partner Vermont SportsCar expect to attend at least eight rounds of the 2016 Red Bull GRC series while substantially increasing testing and development work on the new Subaru WRX STI GRC Supercar. The Subaru program will intensify its technical efforts to target winning the series’ Drivers and Manufacturer’s championships in 2017. Team drivers Bucky Lasek and Sverre Isachsen will drive for the team in Red Bull GRC while long-time Subaru driver David Higgins will increase his role with the team as the lead test driver. Subaru Rally Team USA will join the Red Bull GRC grid at the Dallas round held June 3- 4 at Fair Park, Dallas, Texas with driver Sverre Isachsen, while Bucky Lasek will compete in the skate competition at Summer X Games. Lasek and Isachsen will next attend the Red Bull GRC BASE round held July 2-3. “We are taking some important steps this season to increase our technical and engineering efforts,” stated Lance Smith, Vermont SportsCar Team Principal. “Vermont SportsCar is working closely with STI in 2016 to take this program to the next level and I'm really looking forward to the future.” The Red Bull Global Rallycross series takes the best attributes of circuit, off-road, and rally racing that results in intense competition at venues that are fan-friendly. -

Atlas F1's Craig Scarborough reviews Renault's history of technological breakthroughs, from the first turbo engine to the innovative OPT system Renault have used motorsport to demonstrate their technology for many years. While other motorsport arenas have seen Renault's participation, it has been Formula One that has seen Renault's greatest input and most influential work, dating back to 1977 with the debut of an all French team from the tyres to the fuel, from the drivers to the chassis. The eighties dawned and Renault were winning races and supplying engines to other teams. A change of heart lead the team to leave Formula One briefly, returning with a new breed of engine, the V10, at the end of that decade. Such was Renault's dominance in the nineties they left F1 once more, only to return in the new millenium with another ground breaking engine, the wide angle V10. But this time as a full manufacturer, allowing Renault to demonstrate their undersung chassis technology as well as their engines. For nearly 30 years, Renault has used F1 as a platform to learn technology and show the world how it applies that technology. Before F1 Pre dating their involvement with Formula One, Renault had a motorsport history throughout the first half of the century dating right back to the Renault brothers original business in 1899. -

Lauderdale, FL. Subaru factory drivers Bucky Lasek, Sverre Isachsen, and Travis Pastrana took part in the final pre-season test session at the Florida International Rally and Motorsports School in Starke, FL. Co-developed by Vermont SportsCar and Subaru Tecnica International, The VT15x starts life as a production 2015 WRX STI, then receives extensive upgrades to the driveline, suspension, and aerodynamics creating an STI capable of 0-60 in 2 seconds that can handle pavement, dirt, and jumps. True to its factory design, the VT15x features a turbocharged four-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine and all-wheel drive. As a warm up to his X Games Rallycross entry, Subaru team driver Travis Pastrana joined the test as well. Pastrana will compete in the 2014 WRX STI rallycross car he ran last season with new performance upgrades until his VT15x is completed. “The technical collaboration between Vermont SportsCar and Subaru Tecnica International is beginning to show its fruits in testing,” stated Rob Weir, Subaru Motorsports Marketing Manager. “Compared to our last version of rallycross car, which took us to five podiums last year, the VT15x is a revolution in terms of outright speed and maneuverability. -

Norska rallycrosseliten till RallyX i Arvika STCC och norsk rallycross går samman. När RallyX avgörs i Arvika den 1 augusti kommer det norska mästerskapet i Supercar att ingå i tävlingen. – Det är väldigt viktigt för RallyX att bygga en relation till våra grannländer. Det här är ett led i vår framtidsvision att göra RallyX till en nordisk serie, säger Jonas Lundin, vd på STCC AB. – Ett samarbete mellan STCC AB och rallycrossektionen i Norge om framtida arrangemang är i linje med norsk rallycross önskan om en stark och framtidsinriktad serie för våra Supercar-förare. Ett samarbete med STCC AB är ett steg i rätt riktning för att vi gemensamt ska kunna bygga en stark och publikattraktiv serie, säger Trond Bakkom, i Norska bilsportförbundets rallycrossektion. – Med vår historia inom rallycrossporten ser vi verkligen fram emot norska förare i Rally X Arvika. Vi hoppas på en stor publikuppslutning från båda sidor av gränsen och att vi får en fantastisk dag tillsammans, säger Anders Andersson, ordförande i MK Team Westom Närheten till Norge och det stora rallycrossintresset i västra Värmland gör Arvika och Westombanan till den optimala platsen för en gemensam mästerskapstävling i rallycross. Arvika är den fjärde och näst sista deltävlingen i årets upplaga av RallyX, rallycrosserien för klasserna Supercar och Supercar Lites. RallyX inleds i Skövde 8-9 maj och fortsätter sedan i Strängnäs (11 juni) och Kalix (18 juli) innan den svenska – och norska – eliten kommer till Värmland den 1 augusti. Efter framträdandet i Arvika återstår bara finalen på Solvalla i Stockholm 11-12 september. Sverige och Norge är två länder med stark tradition och stora framgångar inom rallycrossen. -

Consequently, Audi Sport, in addition to its commitments in Formula E and the DTM, will be competing in the FIA World Rallycross Championship as well. Longstanding Audi factory driver Mattias Ekström founded EKS in early 2014, subsequently leading the squad to the top of the world’s standings with great personal commitment within the space of only three years. In the 2016 season, Ekström and EKS in the all-wheel-drive Audi S1 EKS RX quattro won both the drivers’ and the teams’ world championships against strong competitors from Ford, Peugeot, Volkswagen and numerous privateer teams. “We realized that it was becoming increasingly difficult for EKS to stand its ground against the factory teams, so we decided to intensify our commitment in the World RX,” says Head of Audi Motorsport Dieter Gass. Dubbla finalplatser i rallycross-VM för Volkswagen Team Sweden – Rustad överlägsen i EM Volkswagen Team Sweden fick med båda sina förare i final när årets femte deltävling i rallycross-VM avgjordes i Tyskland. Johan Kristoffersson slutade fyra och slog vakt om sin andraplats i VM-tabellen. Tord Linnerud blev sjätte man i sin första VM-final. I Marklund Motorsport missade båda VM-förarna semifinal. Desto bättre gick det för Tommy Rustad som vann EM i Supercar överlägset. VM- och EM-deltävlingen på Estering i norra Tyskland bjöd på ett blandat resultat för de svenska Volkswagenteamen. I VM lyckades Volkswagen Team Sweden bäst. Johan Kristoffersson och Tord Linnerud var stabila i kvalomgångarna där norrmannen var bäst en fjärdeplats totalt, placeringen före Kristoffersson. I semifinalerna fortsatte framgångarna. I den första vare Kristoffersson tvåa bakom fransmannen Davy Jeanney och i den andra nådde Linnerud samma placering – slagen endast av Petter Solberg. I finalen delade VW-förarna andra startled. Kristoffersson var snabbast av startplattan och var trea ut ur den första, tuffa kurvan. Linnerud var fyra, men tappade till sjätte plats över de sex varven. Kristoffersson fick nöja sig med fjärde plats sedan han blivit passerad av såväl Petter Solberg som Timmy Hansen när han tog alternativspåret på det sista varvet. – Rent spontant så här direkt efter finalen är jag rätt nöjd. Visst hade det varit roligt med en pallplats, men på en så chansartad bana som den här, där det studsar bilar åt alla håll och kantar, får man vara nöjd med att ta sig till final. Väl där var det inte lätt från andra startspår. -

Volvo symbol When the decision was taken to start producing Volvo cars in August , financial backer Svenska Kullagerfabriken — SKF — reactivated a company that had been idle since for the purpose. The name of that company was VOLVO and it had been formed in for the manufacture and marketing of bearings for the automotive industry. Not only was the name ingeniously simple, it was also easy to pronounce in most places around the world and with a minimal risk of spelling errors. And best of it all was its immensely strong symbolic connection to the company's entire operations. In its first person singular form, the verb "volvere" becomes "volvo", i. Its Latin form gives rise to several derivations of the word that in one way or another, and in many languages too, describe a rotating movement, for instance, revolver. Everything that rolls When operations started, they were described as follows: "Ball bearings, roller bearings, machines, transmissions, automobiles, bicycles, rolling-stock, transportation devices, means of transport of all kinds and parts of and accessories for the aforementioned products". All those things were not realised but quite a few Volvo automobiles and other transportation devices have been produced over the years. Some other products that also carried the Volvo brand name are such oddities as producer-gas burners, camping trailers and office chairs. Ancient logotype At the same time as VOLVO was reactivated, the ancient chemical symbol for iron, a circle with an arrow pointing diagonally upwards to the right, was adopted as a logotype. This is one of the oldest and most common ideograms in Western culture and originally stood for the planet Mars in the Roman Empire. -

The team nearly had redemption in hand for Race Two of the double- header event when Sverre Isachsen, who was set for an impressive 4th place finish in the Final, was spun out from behind by another competitor, forcing him to retire. The offending competitor, Ken Block, was later disqualified from the Final for the aggressive maneuver; however Isachsen remained classified in 8th overall. The X Games Munich RallyCross event was a double-header affair after the previous Global RallyCross Championship round in Barcelona was cancelled due to heavy rains. The event began on Saturday with Isachsen qualifying an impressive 3rd overall, but a mechanical problem in the Race One heats forced Isachsen to miss a chance at reaching the Final. On-track incidents inhibited Subaru team drivers Dave Mirra and Bucky Lasek from reaching the Final as well. With Saturday’s bad luck behind them, the team began Sunday’s second event with the resurgence of Isachsen qualifying 5th overall in his Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive 600hp Subaru WRX STI. Isachsen then advanced straight to the Final after passing his teammate Lasek, finishing second overall in his Heat race.
