WHAT IS THE LA MESITA FAMILY HOMELESS SHELTER?

A New Leaf’s La Mesita Family Homeless Shelter is a 16-unit family shelter providing a broad array of services to help homeless families with minor aged children become self-reliant. It is the only shelter in the East Valley that allows parents to bring their children with them, a critically needed resource for families in crisis. Families stay up to 120 days in 1 or 2 bedroom apartments with basic needs provided upon entry, including: food, clothing, hygiene and household items.

OCCUPANTS

The La Mesita Family Homeless Shelter is reserved for families referred by the Family Housing Hub of Maricopa County’s Coordinated Assessment. Over 50% of those served by the shelter are children.

Homeless families are referred by the Family Housing Hub (602-595-8700) and complete a diversion and screening process before placement. Residents agree to seek employment and work toward self-sufficiency during their stay of up to 4 months.

The La Mesita Family Homeless Shelter is located on the La Mesita Community Campus at 2245 West Ella Street, Mesa, AZ 85201.

Immediate crisis stabilization. Provide housing and basic needs. Assist residents with securing employment or increasing income. Increase household’s awareness of community services available. Assist residents with securing long-term housing solutions.

SERVICES

The La Mesita Family Homeless Shelter delivers comprehensive services meant to assist families with becoming stable and secure in their housing and basic needs. Services include: Temporary Emergency Housing – Families stay up to 120 days and are provided with basic needs. Case Management – Each family develops a plan to become self-sustaining Onsite Resident Services – Workforce Development, financial literacy classes and coaching, After School Program, Head Start program, behavioral health services for children & families, assistance accessing healthcare, legal aid, transportation, computer lab & training, access to Wellness Center/Gym and a variety of community building activities and classes. Permanent Housing – Housing needs are addressed by the Housing Stability Resource Coordinator in collaboration with the case manager during the families’ stay.
