Your request was actioned under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in which you requested the following information:- I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act to request the following information on each secondary school in Liverpool: - School Name - Local Authority Establishment Number (LAESTAB) - Unique Reference Number (URN) - The number of children admitted under a distance criterion - The distance of the furthest child admitted under a distance criterion I would like this information for the school years 2006/07 through to 2012/13. Response Liverpool City Council confirms that it holds information relevant to the terms of your request, our response being set out in the attached document in the form of a list of schools for which we are/were the admission authority for the timeline requested. The remainder of schools in the city are own admitting authority schools for which we do not hold this information. This concludes our response. The City Council will consider appeals, referrals or complaints in respect of your Freedom of Information Act 2000 and you must submit these in writing to [email protected] within 28 days of receiving your response. The matter will be dealt with by an officer who was not previously involved with the response and we will look to provide a response within 40 days. We know that the Government requires schools to find £3bn in savings by 2019 / 2020. This figure is validated by the National Audit Office and is, in reality, an 8% cut to school budgets. The Department for Education has insisted that it has protected school budgets in real terms. As headteachers we can clearly demonstrate that this is not the case. Secondary schools in the North West have already had to make savings to cope with over £97,000,000 of additional annual employment costs which schools now pay in the form of increased national insurance and pension contributions. This annual figure represents an actual cut to school budgets as these costs have not been funded by the Government. We will have to find savings approaching £400,000,000 by 2020 without even factoring in the impact of inflation and the apprenticeship levy. The impact of this is potentially devastating, with schools already considering cuts to arts provision, the curriculum, and the ability to maintain current opening hours.

Their challenge was to suggest how we could deliver more for less, now that previous levels of Government funding are simply not available. The Task Force has completed its review and reported back to me. The City Council is now coming forward with a set of proposals which will deliver not just a better education but also a much needed boost to the local economy, and will also help us build stronger local communities.
