Substations are usually constructed at-grade and are located within stations or underneath the running structure (for elevated sections). Exhibit 2-53: Potential Substation Locations for SRT Extension TTC traction power requirements typically result in a distance between substations of about 1.5 km to 2 km. Due to the power requirements for lights and equipment at stations, these substations are usually located in the vicinity of stations. The existing traction power substations at Kennedy, Lawrence East, Ellesmere, Scarborough Centre and McCowan Stations will remain part of each station but will undergo changes to accommodate the new vehicle requirements. New substations are proposed along the extension with an average of 1.5 kilometre spacing. Exhibit 2-53 presents the proposed location of the traction power substations: • At the south end of Production Drive; • Centennial College; • Sheppard Avenue; • Bellamy Station; and • Malvern Town Centre. The typical substation structures (Exhibit 2-54) are approximately 11 metres by 4.6 metres and 4 metres high. Additional length and width may be required for providing access for maintenance and an attractive façade. These structures will be carefully sited so that they do not obstruct existing and future developments along the SRT corridor. The Sheppard East LRT will also require substation in this general vicinity according to the approved Sheppard East LRT Class EA. As such, the substation located on Sheppard Avenue will be co-ordinated between the SRT and the Sheppard East LRT during design. The final locations of the electrical substations will be further investigated in the detailed design stage. -

Bus Rapid Transit Service Breaks Ground in Mississauga
No. H0xx/10 For release August 20, 2010 BUS RAPID TRANSIT SERVICE BREAKS GROUND IN MISSISSAUGA MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO — Bob Dechert, Member of Parliament, Mississauga-Erindale, the Honourable Kathleen Wynne, Ontario’s Transportation Minister, Her Worship Hazel McCallion, Mayor of Mississauga and Gary McNeil, GO Transit Managing Director participated in a groundbreaking ceremony today to mark the start of construction of the Mississauga Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor. This project, which is expected to be completed in spring 2013, will improve local and inter-regional bus operations across the City of Mississauga. It involves constructing an 11-kilometre east-west busway across the City of Mississauga between Winston Churchill Boulevard and Renforth Drive in the City of Toronto and a total of 12 stations along the route with related commuter facilities. “Investments in public transit creates jobs and boosts the Canadian economy,” said MP Dechert. “This rapid transit system will provide commuters in Mississauga with a more efficient transit option, while cutting commute times and taking more cars off the road.” “This is great news for Mississauga residents,” said Ontario Transportation Minister Kathleen Wynne. “When the new bus rapid transit line is finished, more commuters will be able to leave their cars at home and take public transit. Investing in public transit is part of the McGuinty government’s Open Ontario plan. The Area Transportation System Problems and Opportunities Report – Draft for Consultation (2009) was first issued in July 2009. The reports purpose was to summarize the process and methodology that was used to identify transportation problems and opportunities, and to document the key findings of this work. In the consultation period following its release, the study team received comments relating to a range of issues, including municipal planning policy, transportation modelling, and planned transportation initiatives within the preliminary study area. The purpose of this revised draft report (December 2010) is to ensure that all comments received have been adequately addressed; where appropriate, the content of the report has been revised accordingly. STAFF REPORT ACTION REQUIRED 8304 Sheppard Avenue East - Official Plan & Rezoning Applications - Preliminary Report Date: February 16, 2010 To: Planning and Growth Management Committee From: Chief Planner and Executive Director Wards: Ward 42 – Scarborough-Rouge River Reference 10 102286 ESC 42 OZ Number: SUMMARY These applications were made on or after January 1, 2007 and is subject to the new provisions of the Planning Act and the City of Toronto Act, 2006. These applications propose a Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Maintenance and Storage Facility at 8304 Sheppard Avenue East. This facility is intended to serve the Sheppard East, Eglinton Crosstown and Scarborough Malvern Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines which are all part of the Transit City Plan. This report provides preliminary information on the above-noted applications and seeks Planning and Growth Management Committee’s direction on the further processing of the applications and on the community consultation process. These applications seeks to permit a maintenance and storage facility which is a key component of the Transit City Plan. Accordingly, staff is of the view that the application should be deemed a matter of City-wide interest and that all planning reports be routed through and the public Staff report for action – Preliminary Report - 8304 Sheppard Avenue East 1 meeting held before the Planning and Growth Management Committee. The applications should proceed through the normal planning process in terms of community consultation. Revised Recommendations: Eglinton Crosstown LRT Stations Naming
STAFF REPORT To: Metrolinx Board of Directors From: Leslie Woo, Chief Planning Officer Date: January 14, 2016 Re: Revised Recommendations: Eglinton Crosstown LRT Stations and Stops Naming Executive Summary: Staff is seeking final approval of Eglinton Crosstown LRT station and stop names (Appendix A). The December 3, 2015 report of the Chief Planning Officer recommended Eglinton Crosstown LRT Station and Stop Names based on the Naming Principles and Protocols developed following a 12 month (between late 2014 and late 2015) long engagement process with GTHA local transit operators (Appendix B). The public was encouraged to provide feedback on proposed station and stop names online in October 2015. The Toronto Transit Commission also provided its own recommendations on the proposed names at its meeting of November 23, 2015. At the December 3, 2015 Board meeting, three recommended location names were questioned: Lebovic, Forest Hill and Fairbank and staff were to report back on the basis of this Board feedback. Since the December 3, 2015 meeting staff undertook: • a deeper analysis and exploration of possible alternative names for these three locations; and • sought additional feedback from local councillors and MPPs on the three locations. The revised recommendations are i) to use Hakimi in place of Lebovic; ii) no change be made to Forest Hill; and iii) no change be made to Fairbank. In addition, staff plan to use in-station way-finding to assist customers in navigating between stations and the surface street system. As well, Toronto Councillor Thompson raised the question on the naming of the “Golden Mile” station. No change is being proposed by staff. -

Metro needs more of them. The next obvious one is an east-west line along Eglinton, Sheppard or Finch Avenues—If politicians show a bit of nerve and build fixed rail transit into thinly populated areas, experience has shown these soon become thickly populated areas.
