Peugeot 206. Strong Emotions Created by the Combination of Design & Technology PEUI_0111094 Advert. 206 ING 26/11/01 11:41 Page 1 861269 – PHU – BAG Peugeot 206. Strong emotions created by the combination of Design & Technology. Since its launch in 1999, the groundbreaking Peugeot 206 has become a benchmark for style and engineering. With over 2 million drivers worldwide, the 206 is setting new standards for a great variety of consumers. The world is probably witnessing the birth of the next cult car. PEUI_0111094 Advert. 206 ING 26/11/01 11:41 Page 2 Probably the most attractive car in its category. The 206 is increasingly viewed as the benchmark against which the other cars in its segment must be measured. One reason is that the 206 has always boasted the most attractive design in its category. With its huge windshield and extensive glass area, feline headlights, gently curving rear end and the outstanding ergonomics of its interior design, the car soon convinced the motoring press and won over consumers. But the 206’s appeal goes far beyond its styling. The car’s design and technology put it at the top of a category that it is reshaping. Re-defining the category Through its spaciousness and ergonomics, the 206 pushes the envelope of the small car segment, challenging previous standards of comfort and liveability. Its interior dimensions and thoughtful innova- tions make the 206 a comfortable car in both the front and the back. For example, elevated back seats give tall passengers knee room and the roof height provides space that suggests a people carrier. All these innovations combine to create a big, comfortable car that still fits the small car category. PEUI_0111094 Advert. 206 ING 26/11/01 11:41 Page 3 Cutting-edge technology. From the outset, the 206 was conceived as a generous car in terms of its engineering and technology – a new approach to the market’s most economical sector. The most attractive car in its category should also be the safest and the best equipped. The incorporation of state-of-the-art diesel technology made the 206 the first car in its sector with an HDI (common rail) version. Other features include a collapsible steering column, multiple air bags, ABS brakes and multi-armed inertia-correcting suspension. Moreover, in mid-2001, the 206 will assert its technological leadership through multiplexing. This will enable it to feature adaptative frontal airbags, automatic door unlocking in the event of accident, automatic switch-on of headlights and the “Follow-Me-Home” system. All these advantages were restricted to uprange cars until now. This breakthrough reflects Peugeot’s determination to design the 206 not just as a small car, but as a driving experience that gives optimum consumer satisfaction. One concept with multiple consumers. There is no car on the worldwide market like the 206. In addition to the distinctive design that has always characterised the Peugeot 200 line, from the memorable 203 to the legendary 205, the 206 comes in a wide spectrum of models that meet the needs of different types of consumer. The launch of the S 16 model, together with the conclusive victories of the 206 WRC (World Rally Champion 2000), the outstanding performance and cutting-edge technology of the HDI engine, the special Roland Garros series and the resounding success of the sector’s first Coupé Convertible make the 206 a unique concept in an extensive range that has enabled it to win the preference of consumers from many different socio-economic categories. The next “cult car”. Incredible design, a choice of models that can win over a wide variety of consumers, sporting achievements, environmental balance and Peugeot’s total commitment to driving pleasure have made the 206 one of the greatest successes in the history of the brand. If any vehicle can become a cult car in such an eclectic era, the 206 can. With over 2 million cars sold in its young life and continuing sales growth, the 206’s power of attraction has proved irresistible on every one of its markets around the world..

  • Cross-Country Comparison of Substitution Patterns in the European Car Market
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Research Papers in Economics Cross-country comparison of substitution patterns in the European car market Paper submitted to obtain the degree of Master of Advanced Studies in Economics Faculty of Business and Economics K.U. Leuven, Belgium Supervisor: Frank Verboven. Discussant: Patrick Van Cayseele Candidate: Victoria Oliinik January 2007 Abstract AIMS. Using recent data on sales, prices and product characteris- tics of new passenger vehicles sold in Europe’s seven largest markets during years 2000 through 2005, I estimate a demand function us- ing two approaches to the differentiated product demand estimation: the Logit and the Nested Logit. For the Nested Logit model, I use nests that roughly correspond to segmentation used in the automo- bile industry. I then compare substitution patterns resulting from Logit and Nested Logit specifications across countries and segments. FINDINGS. Regression outcomes demonstrate strong evidence of seg- mentation. Consumer preferences are strongly correlated for the most basic as well as for the luxury and sports segments, whereas core seg- ments display more heterogeneity. While car size preference varies across countries, Europeans typically like high and wide cars and dis- like long cars. Engine performance appreciation appears to have a curved shape: consumers are willing to pay for a fast car but at a de- creasing rate. Compared to their neighbors, Germans shop the most for premium brands yet display strongest price sensitivity, whereas most concerned about fuel consumption are the Brits. Aside from a few exceptions, all elasticities are within expected range, substitu- tion patterns vary mainly across segments but follow a similar pattern across countries.
