Una Boccata d’Arte 20 artisti 20 borghi 20 regioni Milano, 10 June 2021 AGNESE SPOLVERINI IN ABBATEGGIO We're approaching the opening of the second edition of Una Boccata d’Arte, a contemporary art project spread all over Italy, in all of its regions that, from 26 June to 26 September 2021, promotes the meeting of contemporary art with the historical and artistic beauty of the the most evocative villages in Italy. Una Boccata d'Arte is a project by Fondazione Elpis, in collaboration with Galleria Continua, and the participation of Threes Productions, that gives full creative freedom to the artist and allows the use of any artistic media, exploring various themes that dialogue in a convincing way with the villages. The twenty villages, selected each year on the basis of: less than 5000 inhabitants; the presence of an active cultural scene; and a capacity for family- run artisanal, commercial and hospitality industries, welcome twenty site specific artworks created by emerging and established artists, all of whom have been invited by the Fondazione Elpis and Galleria Continua. ABRUZZO Abbateggio is the village that will host the exhibition Per riconoscerti nel buio by the artist Agnese Spolverini. The opening will be held on Saturday 26 June from 7pm to 10pm in Piazza Madonna del Carmine, 65020 - Abbateggio (PE). «Sympathy – etymologically meaning to feel together - allowed the miners to survive in the mine; the feeling of each individual was at the same time a collective feeling. There is the story of a mine, there are the stories of many forgotten workers, there is the dark matter, bitumen, which on this occasion revives the streets of the center of Abbateggio; and finally, there is the soul of a kind ghost, Vincenzo Di Paolo, who accompanies us in the discovery of an unknown and hostile place, which, although it seems to be a place with few inhabitants, it is linked to a collective history, rooted in the past but it also speaks to us of our present. Along the central street of the village, the latex castings evoke the bitumen flows of the mines and mark a path that is to be followed. Going down towards the historic center, at the intersection of Via del Carmine and Via Breda, a round arch overlooks the landscape, directing the gaze towards the area that houses the mines. In the arch, darkness and light meet, the quote that crowns the arch refers to the feeling of solidarity that existed among the workers: it is an invitation, as the writing says, to recognize the other in the dark, just like how out of necessity they found themselves working as miners. The Ciammarichella, i.e. the road that miners traveled at night to go up the mountain and return to Abbateggio, was strewn with lanterns, fireflies that illuminate the forest. At the end of the journey an artificial passage, in the shape of a tunnel, transports you into the penumbra, but, as on a summer night, you find yourself surrounded by a starry sky. THE ARTIST Agnese Spolverini (Viterbo, 1994) works on a continuous game of displacement in respect to the objects of the world with which she relates. A sphere of emotions - with its complexity, confusion and fluidity - always acts as a vector of meanings in her installations. Graduated from the Fine Art Academy in Urbino, in 2020 she participated in «Supercall» in Pietrasanta, and in the 11th edition of the Combat Prize in Livorno, where she won the Art Tracker prize. Una Boccata d’Arte 20 artisti 20 borghi 20 regioni AGNESE SPOLVERINI IN ABBATEGGIO THE VILLAGE Abbateggio is a village in Abruzzo with 392 residents in the province of Pescara, which is 40km away. It stands at the base of the Montagna Madre, and is characterized by Tholos, dry stone houses used in the past as shelter for shepherds and flocks. Along with olive trees, spelt has long been the main source of local sustenance; for about twenty years, residents of Abbateggio have held an annual festival dedicated to this grain, attracting a multitude of tourists. The village has an artistic sensibility about it, since for several years it has played privileged host to extemporary painting competitions, along with being the stage for the «Parco Majella» literary prize. FONDAZIONE ELPIS Established in 2020 by Marina Nissim, entrepreneur and contemporary art collector, has as its purpose the valorization and promotion of expressive forms of contemporary art and creativity, particularly with regard to education and social utility. Fondazione Elpis especially focuses on supporting young and emerging artists, from different countries and cultures, whose talent deserves a greater opportunity for visibility and support. The exhibition space, currently being renovated, will open to public in spring 2022, in the heart of Milano. GALLERIA CONTINUA Contemporary art gallery established in 1990 by Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi and Maurizio Rigillo, today to date it has seven locations around the world: in 1990 opens in San Gimignano, little Tuscan village; in 2004 in Beijing, in 798 district; in 2007 at Les Moulins, in the Parisian countryside; in 2015 in La Habana, Cuba; in 2020 in Rome, into The St. Regis Rome, and in São Paulo, Brazil. In January 2021 opens a new exhibition space in Paris, in Le Marais district. THREES PRODUCTIONS A curatorial team and creative agency based in Milano, concentrates its practice on projects that intersect sound, art and landscape. In the second edition of Una Boccata d’Arte 2021, Threes will curate the exhibitions by Camille Norment in Santa Gertrude, Francesco Cavaliere in Vallo di Nero and Polisonum in Gesualdo.
