I find my work most rewarding and enjoy the challenge and variety that my job brings at Geelong Hospital . > Analysis of admission patterns show that the Geelong region is around 93% self sufficient in health service availability through NUMBER OF BEDS Barwon Health with only a very small number of referrals to hospitals outside the area. Acute 392 > Specialist services extend north to Werribee and south to the South Transitional/Interim Care (off site) 30 Australian border for major specialties such as cancer, cardiology and cardio-thoracic surgery. It is named after Doctor Frederick Hilton Wallace and provides a warm, vibrant MILLION ($M) home to residents who previously resided in Ward 8, 9 and 10. Revenue Expenditure OCTOBER 2006 The Minister for Aged Care, EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT ATTENDANCES Gavin Jennings opened the McKellar Centre’s state of the art Community Rehabilitation 2002/03 39,967 Centre. A comprehensive range 2003/04 38,313 of services are now co-located in this facility, including the community rehabilitation team, home based 2004/05 38,549 rehabilitation, prosthetic services and specialist regional clinics. 2005/06 40,620 DECEMBER 2006 2006/07 42,305 Barwon Health, in partnership with Pathways Psychiatric Disability NUMBER OF ATTENDANCES Support Service, received Government funding to establish a Prevention and Recovery Care service for the Barwon region. This service will combine six new beds at a refurbished Community Rehabilitation Facility. INPATIENT SEPARATIONS DECEMBER 2006 2002/03 54,004 The Gala Appeal celebrated its 90th 2003/04 58,240 anniversary on 1 December 2006 with Geelong Football Club player Tom 2004/05 59,971 Lonergan and Barwon Health Foundation 2005/06 59,047 Patron, Peter Hitchener leading the parade which consisted of over 60 floats. 2006/07 61,888 MARCH 2007 NUMBER OF SEPARATIONS Linencare received the 'regional business' award for new water saving technology at the Smart Water Awards. The new equipment includes an Aquamiser and Energy Optimiser that reduces Linencare’s annual water REHABILITATION, PALLIATIVE & GERIATRIC EVALUATION use by 45% or 545,000 litres of water a week. Prior to commencing her research career she trained and worked as a book editor, writer and publisher. Renée has a professional background in content development, strategic planning, change management and project management. She has a particular interest in translating complex technical and scientific information to texts and formats suitable for implementation into policy briefs, professional practice and information for the general public.

    RESEARCH REVIEW COMMITTEE (RRC) MEMBERS Dr Giuliana Fuscaldo RRC Chairperson Prior to joining Barwon Health Giuliana held academic positions at the University of Melbourne, Victoria and Monash Universities. Giuliana has been involved in health ethics research and teaching for many years. Giuliana’s background is in reproductive technology. She worked for ten years as a clinical scientist and Researcher in a Melbourne IVF Clinic. During this time she completed a Masters of Bioethics at Monash University and later a PhD at Melbourne University, on ethical issues arising from advances in reproductive technology. Giuliana is a longstanding member of several ethics committees and has designed and delivered education and training programs on research ethics and research methods for health professionals, researchers and HREC members. Dr Olivia Dean RRC Member Dr Olivia Dean is currently the Director of the Clinical Trials Division and Senior Research Fellow with the Centre for Innovations in Mental and Physical health And Clinical Treatments (IMPACT) at Deakin University. She holds honorary appointments with the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, The University of Melbourne and Barwon Health. Dr Dean has developed a research program focusing on novel therapies for psychiatric disorders. The program integrates preclinical multidisciplinary approaches and clinical trials to understand the biological underpinnings of mental illness, specifically depression. The multifaceted research program allows verification of target engagement and thus identification of targets for novel therapies. Dr Dean has been responsible for the successful completion of a multitude of clinical trials, including both national and international sites. Dr Dean is committed to providing better treatment outcomes for people with mental disorders and is actively involved in ensuring her research reaches community forums and outcomes are directly translated into clinical practice.
