pacemiataclub.org July ‘20 PACESETTER Created for PACE Miata Club members and Miata MX-5 fans FROM THE PRESIDENT “On the road again, I just can’t wait to be on the road again…,” Anyone who’s not been in a coma since the early 80’s must remember that classic Willie Nelson tune. We are happy to announce that as of June 27, the PACE Miata Club was also “back on the road again.” After two starts and two stops this spring, the Governor, the weather, and an excited group of PACE members finally agreed. As a result, we met on a beautiful Saturday to enjoy one of our most popular runs—to Perry and Juniata Counties, and back. The group took a spectacular drive up and through one of the most scenic places in PA. We late-lunched at a highly recommended and quaint little restaurant, “Bread of Life,” in McAlisterville, with a choice of indoor or outdoor dining. We’d suggest, that if you haven’t heard of it, you take the drive and try it out. “Bellissimo.” We realize that the COVID-19 pandemic may not be behind us, but considering the statistics, and the state relaxing some of its prevention restrictions, cont’d) we might as well take advantage of the nice weather while we can. It was the beginning of yet another great PACE event agenda. Thank you to this brave crew and to all our members who stuck by us and signed up for another go ‘round in 20/21. Let us also not forget, a most important event in our countries history—the Fourth of July.

  • Everything About Miatas
INTRODUCTION It has been 30 years since the Mazda MX-5 made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show. Thanks to an avid group of fans based all over the world, it’s still with us, and as popular as ever. It hasn’t always been plain sailing, of course. Over three decades ago, our team members set out to create a car that anyone could enjoy in any scenario, which is easier said than done. Hard work and dedication beyond the call of duty led to the production of a small vehicle that reignited the passion the lightweight sportscar (LWS) had once enjoyed in a more carefree era. Our loyal customers then guided us through its evolution. Over 1,000,000 MX-5s have been made so far, proving the car’s appeal beyond any doubt. But we will not rest on our laurels. With the Jinba-ittai philosophy that gave birth to the original roadster firmly in mind, it’s our intention to keep refining the model, constantly raising the bar to provide a vehicle that delivers well above expectations – a car that makes everyone happy… Mazda Motor Corporation February 2019 First Japanese brochure in 1989 quote the MX-5 a car that makes everyone happy. “Roadster” is a general noun used to refer to an open top sports car. Mazda registered it as a trademark car name. “MX” is a symbol that signifies a sports car equipped with Mazda's reciprocating engine, “Miata” is an old German word meaning “reward.” 1 INDEX Introduction P1 Before Dawn P3 - P8 First Generation P9 - P13 Second Generation P14 - P17 Third Generation P18 - P22 Fourth Generation P23 - P26 Production Line P27 Photo Gallery P28 Special Editions P29 - P32 Show Cars P33 - P34 M2 Incorporated P35 - P36 Motorsports P37 - P38 Fan Events P39 World Premiere P40 PR Events P41 Awards P42 Restoration P43 - P44 Specifications P45 - P48 Dimensions P49 - P51 Statistics P52 Chronology P53 - P54 2 BEFORE DAWN As a breed, the lightweight sportscar (LWS) had been around for decades, but Mazda gave it a new lease of life in the early 1980s.

  • September, 2010 September Flash Backs with Rainer Mueller
TWISTS & TURNS Back to school edition The newsletter of the San Diego Miata Club Volume 15, Number 7 Sept. 2010 Main Street America Recap by Gene Streeter ne of the things the Corvette Owners Club of San Diego (COCSD) does exceedingly well is organize and execute their annual charity car show at Embarcadero Park. It might be argued its members are more adept Oat their promotion and parking plans than at negotiating the severe turns of K1 Speed's carting course, but that's another story entirely. Apart from then storied historical significance of the Pebble Beach Concours, the Embarcadero Park setting is a venue every bit the equal of its other August sibling – fabulous ocean vistas, mature trees providing welcome shade, manicured green turf undulating with the mounds and swales of the landscape. The weather was Chamber-of- Commerce picture perfect, clear azure skies dotted with private and commercial aircraft, even the SDMC logo kite being flown by Rick “kite dude” Spurgeon. San Diego's adjacent “Big Bay” was punctuated by the sparkling-white sails and sleek, multi-colored hulls of yachts and every variety of watercraft. And yes, there were squadrons of the obligatory sea gulls that live in both dimensions, threatening everything below their cruising altitudes. That Sunday, August 8, was the perfect day at the perfect venue for the display of nearly 400 automobiles of every era and description; they arrived and were strategically staged by approximately 70 volunteers, an organizational effort that Surf 'N Safari Chair Sue Hinkle seeks to replicate mid-October. Unlike the renowned Pebble Beach show, very few vehicles were trailered-in, an approach all of us can embrace and applaud.

The Official Newsletter of the Indy Miata Club Volume 27 From the Car Cave By Ken Koehler, President Issue 8 Wow! July has turned out to be one heck of a month! August 2016 We had two very successful events -- the MMG Rally Rerun, July 9th, and a fun and well attended Night Before the 400 Mingle in Mooresville on July 23! The MMG Rally started out as any other rally, but did- n't end that way as it started a game of "Musical Miatas" within IMC. As Gary Collings called it: "It was fun to see all the dominos fall as soon as our yellow ’02 SE hit the market!" Yes, I will no longer be able to lead the second group of cars off in my "hard to miss" bright yellow Miata. But, John and Elaine Weiss can, as they are the new owners of this beautiful Miata. I'll admit to being a bit prejudiced, but I still think it's one of the best looking Miatas ever built! Aww, but I'm getting ahead of myself. How did this "musical Miatas" event start out? What’s Inside It seems senior member Alex Gray had an absolutely perfect 2010 Miata (I believe with the sport package) hidden away in his garage that he only drove on sunny days Page 2 when the temperature was 75. No, actually, I'm only making that up, but, it did only have 5032 miles on it when Sara and I drove it before the start of the MMG Rally. It “From the CAR CAVE” continued was love at first sight for me.
