  • 2019 Mazda Contingency Awards Program Payouts and Requirements
2019 Mazda Contingency Awards Program Payouts and Requirements Endurance racing and the NC (third gen) Miata highlight the contingency awards enhancements. In club racing and autocross, many auto manufacturers pay contingency awards, though not all. Of those who do, the philosophy has largely been to pay just the winner or, perhaps, the podium. Manufacturers want wins and podiums to be able to showcase. Mazda is different. It wants to showcase the talented Mazda racers, but it also rewards many racers who finish deeper in the fields. “At Mazda, we don’t do things just because they’ve always been done that way,” commented David Cook, Mazda Motorsports’ business development manager. “A core value of ours has been continuous kaizen (continuous improvement). In 2017, we began paying deeper in the fields – often the top five finishing positions. In 2018, we paid a little deeper overall. And starting in 2019, as we refocus our efforts in road racing and autocross, we will offer contingency awards to Mazda racers in three sanctioning bodies for the first time – all endurance racing focused.” Mazda racers competing in American Endurance Racing (AER), ChampCar, and World Racing League (WRL) are now eligible for contingency awards. For those choosing an MX-5 Miata, Mazda Motorsports has secured a parts rewards program as the primary compensation for these racers. These “parts rewards points” can be used to acquire many Miata racing competition parts from Mazda Motorsports. While points cannot be combined with cash to purchase a given part, the points value range in the hundreds to thousands of dollars in value.

In 2017, Mazda began paying deeper in the fields – often the top five finishing positions. In 2018, Mazda paid a little deeper overall. In 2019, it further expanded its awards to racers in endurance racing - American Endurance Racing (AER), ChampCar, and World Racing League (WRL). In all, Mazda has nearly doubled the number of racers it pays contingency awards to compared to three-plus years ago. In addition to the expansion of payouts, Mazda introduced the “Mazda Collection” line, which features premium apparel and accessories. The Mazda Motorsports contingency program, starting in 2019, offered many racers the opportunity to earn rewards points, often as bonuses, to help them acquire merchandise from the Mazda Collection, as well as to acquire competition parts. And beginning in 2020, Mazda will focus some of the contingency awards on new programs, and bolstering select existing program – Spec MX-5, SCCA Time Trials, Teen Mazda Challenge, and others. Spec MX-5: Club Racing Done Right On August 21, 2019, Mazda Motorsports announced Spec MX-5. Designed as an affordable, reliable, tech-able and fun-to-drive option for club racers, Spec MX-5 will establish a nationwide ruleset and spec parts list for the 2006-2015 chassis Mazda Miata MX-5.

(September 1, 2016) – The heart and soul of Mazda Motorsports is in grassroots club racing and September kicks off the prime season for competition. While most drivers race for the simple enjoyment of competition and a possible trophy, some have their eyes set on a professional career, including the coveted $100,000 Mazda Road to 24 (#MRT24) Scholarship. Each fall, racers with both the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and the National Auto Sports Association (NASA) gather up for their signature events, with Mazda typically topping the entry lists. John Doonan, director of motorsports, Mazda North American Operations, said, “Mazda understands that professional racing would not exist without a healthy club racing scene as the base. Our mission within Mazda Motorsports is to support the thousands of Mazda racers who have chosen our cars to race. They are the greatest ambassadors we could ever want as they understand better than anyone that driving matters.” Mazda Motorsports Club Racing Facts: Mazda Motorsports has more grassroots road racers than any other car company. Per the most recent SCCA records, 55 percent of SCCA club competitors race a Mazda. The single biggest class of racing is Spec Miata with over 3,000 cars having been built.

pacemiataclub.org July ‘20 PACESETTER Created for PACE Miata Club members and Miata MX-5 fans FROM THE PRESIDENT “On the road again, I just can’t wait to be on the road again…,” Anyone who’s not been in a coma since the early 80’s must remember that classic Willie Nelson tune. We are happy to announce that as of June 27, the PACE Miata Club was also “back on the road again.” After two starts and two stops this spring, the Governor, the weather, and an excited group of PACE members finally agreed. As a result, we met on a beautiful Saturday to enjoy one of our most popular runs—to Perry and Juniata Counties, and back. The group took a spectacular drive up and through one of the most scenic places in PA. We late-lunched at a highly recommended and quaint little restaurant, “Bread of Life,” in McAlisterville, with a choice of indoor or outdoor dining. We’d suggest, that if you haven’t heard of it, you take the drive and try it out. “Bellissimo.” We realize that the COVID-19 pandemic may not be behind us, but considering the statistics, and the state relaxing some of its prevention restrictions, cont’d) we might as well take advantage of the nice weather while we can. It was the beginning of yet another great PACE event agenda. Thank you to this brave crew and to all our members who stuck by us and signed up for another go ‘round in 20/21. Let us also not forget, a most important event in our countries history—the Fourth of July.

  • Everything About Miatas
INTRODUCTION It has been 30 years since the Mazda MX-5 made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show. Thanks to an avid group of fans based all over the world, it’s still with us, and as popular as ever. It hasn’t always been plain sailing, of course. Over three decades ago, our team members set out to create a car that anyone could enjoy in any scenario, which is easier said than done. Hard work and dedication beyond the call of duty led to the production of a small vehicle that reignited the passion the lightweight sportscar (LWS) had once enjoyed in a more carefree era. Our loyal customers then guided us through its evolution. Over 1,000,000 MX-5s have been made so far, proving the car’s appeal beyond any doubt. But we will not rest on our laurels. With the Jinba-ittai philosophy that gave birth to the original roadster firmly in mind, it’s our intention to keep refining the model, constantly raising the bar to provide a vehicle that delivers well above expectations – a car that makes everyone happy… Mazda Motor Corporation February 2019 First Japanese brochure in 1989 quote the MX-5 a car that makes everyone happy. “Roadster” is a general noun used to refer to an open top sports car.
