ST PASCHAL BAYLON CATHOLIC SCHOOL CELEBRATION OF FAITH VIRTUES OF THE MONTH NOVEMBER: PEACE During the month of November we focused on the virtue of PEACE at St Paschal Baylon Catholic School. The scripture passage that guides us this month is “Peace I leave to you, my peace I give to you John 14:27. Each time we gather for Eucharist we are invited to extend a sign of peace to those around us, our family, friends, neighbours, and strangers. Catholic social teaching reminds us that we are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, religious, economic, and ideological differences. We are our brothers and sisters keepers, wherever they may be. Loving our neighbour has global dimensions in a shrinking world. The Gospel calls us to be peacemakers. Our love for all our sisters and brothers demands that we promote peace in a world surrounded by violence and conflict. What can you do to be a peacemaker in your family, your class, our school, our city and the world? DECEMBER: CHARITY As we enter the season of Advent and prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus, it is suitable that this month’s virtue is CHAR- ITY. Many of us are already engaging in the mad rush to purchase gifts to put under the tree on December 25th, but let us be mindful of the fact that charity is not always about giving material things. Our quote for the month is: “Where charity and love are, God is there”. As St. Thomas Aquinas described it “Charity is friendship first with God and secondly with all who belong to God." ROOTED IN CHRIST:WE BELONG,WE BELIEVE, WE BECOME Our theme of “Rooted in Christ: we Belong, we Believe, we Become” calls us not to take on something new and different, but instead to examine the things we do to support our students, our colleagues and our families so that they feel a true con- nection to our TCDSB community. We all Belong … to the family of God, to our own families, to our school and work com- munities, to our parish, to our neighbourhood and to our planet. We know that all of you will continue to embrace this basic concept that is so intrinsic to our Catholic faith, to the values and teachings of our Catholic church. Inclusion, acceptance and belonging are easily incorporated and reflected in our day to day teachings in all areas of the curriculum. Rory McGuckin Director of Education SCHOOL MASSES Our Community Family Mass will be held on Thursday, December 12 @ 7:00 PM at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church. Due to ongoing renovations in the Church hall, we are unable to host our traditional reception after Mass. Thank you to Mrs. Lynde and all of the students who are working to prepare this beautiful ceremony. STUDENTS PRAY THE ROSARY The students of St. Paschal Baylon Catholic School are learning the importance of prayer and how to pray the Rosary. The many dedicated volunteers generously offer their time and talents to spread the love of Jesus and Mary to the students. The Rosary Apostolate volunteers visit the school once a month, on a Friday, to pray the Rosary with students from grades 1-8. The next visit for St Paschal Baylon is December 14, 2018 , then Friday, January 25, 2019. TERRY FOX’S DREAM CONTINUES TO LIVE AT ST. PASCHAL BAYLON On October 22nd, St. Paschal once again continued to keep Terry Fox’s Dream alive of conquering cancer. We had our an- nual walk in support of The Terry Fox Foundation. We hit and surpassed our goal of $2000. We want to thank all staff, stu- dents and parents for their support and generosity. To date our school has raised over $13,000 since 2006. In the words of Terry, “Even if I don’t finish we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going without me.” Let’s keep Terry’s dream to find a cure for cancer alive at St. Paschal. The Terry Fox Committee. ST PASCHAL BAYLON CATHOLIC SCHOOL REMEMBRANCE DAY St. Thomas Aquinas Remembrance Day was once again upon us and provided us with an opportunity to reflect on all those who have sacrificed so much for peace in our communities, our country and our world. We are profoundly and abidingly grateful to them and their families. We must take the time to educate our students, not only about making sacrifices, but also to reinforce Christ’s message of peace -- peace that begins within each and every one of us. At St. Paschal Baylon we inspire excellence, by edu- cating the hands, hearts and minds of students to create responsible citizens who give witness to Catholic social teachings through the values of peace, justice and respect for the sacredness of human life. Ours is an inclusive learning community rooted in the love of Christ. On Friday November 9, 2018, St. Paschal Baylon Catholic School gathered to honour our veter- ans. Thank you to Sister Pat and the Grade 7 team for organizing this beautiful prayer service. We are all called to be wit- nesses of peace. Let us pray and strive for peace in our communities. Let us always remember to extend to each other the Peace of Christ. May His peace be with you in your daily lives and thank you for your contribution to peace in our school com- munity. 2018 THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE St. Paschal Baylon Thanksgiving Food Drive was a great success! Students brought cans of food to school. Over one thousand food items were collected for the Good Shepherd Mission. Many thanks go to our “Me to We” student leaders and Mrs. Rini and Mrs. Gutcher who helped collect the food. Thank you to all the St Paschal Baylon families who supported the food drive. MAY 17, ST. PASCHAL BAYLON, CONFESSOR Errors? [email protected] St. Paschal Baylon, was a simple lay brother of the Franciscan Order, and, by preference, occupied himself with the roughest and most servile tasks. He was distinguished by an ardent love and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. He died in the odor of sanctity; May 15, 1592. Even after death his body moved and his eyes opened in an act of adoration when the priest raised up the sacred host at the elevation in the Mass. Pope Leo XIII declared him protector of all Eucharistic Congresses and works.
