  • Omaha Beach out of Derby with Entrapped Epiglottis
THURSDAY, MAY 2, 2019 WEDNESDAY’S TRACKSIDE DERBY REPORT OMAHA BEACH OUT OF by Steve Sherack DERBY WITH ENTRAPPED LOUISVILLE, KY - With the rising sun making its way through partly cloudy skies, well before the stunning late scratch of likely EPIGLOTTIS favorite Omaha Beach (War Front) rocked the racing world, the backstretch at Churchill Downs was buzzing on a warm and breezy Wednesday morning ahead of this weekend’s 145th GI Kentucky Derby. Two of Bob Baffert’s three Derby-bound ‘TDN Rising Stars’ Roadster (Quality Road) and Improbable (City Zip) were among the first to step foot on the freshly manicured surface during the special 15-minute training window reserved for Derby/Oaks horses at 7:30 a.m. Champion and fellow ‘Rising Star’ Game Winner (Candy Ride {Arg}) galloped during a later Baffert set at 9 a.m. Cont. p3 IN TDN EUROPE TODAY Omaha Beach & exercise rider Taylor Cambra Wednesday morning. | Sherackatthetrack CALYX SENSATIONAL IN ROYAL WARM-UP Calyx (GB) (Kingman {GB}) was scintillating in Ascot’s Fox Hill Farms’s Omaha Beach (War Front), the 4-1 favorite for G3 Pavilion S. on Wednesday. Saturday’s GI Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve, Click or tap here to go straight to TDN Europe. will be forced to miss the race after it was discovered that he has an entrapped epiglottis. “After training this morning we noticed him cough a few times,” Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella said. “It caused us to scope him and we found an entrapped epiglottis. We can’t fix it this week, so we’ll have to have a procedure done in a few days and probably be out of training for three weeks.

II. : THE deiterol STUD BOOK, CONTAINING PEDIGREES OF RACE HORSES, &C. &-C. From the earliest Accounts to the Year 1831. inclusice. ITS FOUR VOLUMES. VOL. II. Brussels PRINTED FOR MELINE, CANS A.ND C"., EOILEVARD DE WATERLOO, Zi. M DCCC XXXIX. MR V. un:ve PREFACE TO THE FIRST EDITION. To assist in the detection of spurious and the correction of inaccu- rate pedigrees, is one of the purposes of the present publication, in which respect the first Volume has been of acknowledged utility. The two together, it is hoped, will form a comprehensive and tole- rably correct Register of Pedigrees. It will be observed that some of the Mares which appeared in the last Supplement (whereof this is a republication and continua- tion) stand as they did there, i. e. without any additions to their produce since 1813 or 1814. — It has been ascertained that several of them were about that time sold by public auction, and as all attempts to trace them have failed, the probability is that they have either been converted to some other use, or been sent abroad. If any proof were wanting of the superiority of the English breed of horses over that of every other country, it might be found in the avidity with which they are sought by Foreigners. The exportation of them to Russia, France, Germany, etc. for the last five years has been so considerable, as to render it an object of some importance in a commercial point of view.

FRIDAY, 19 FEBRUARY 2021 MNASEK MUCH THE BEST IN UAE OAKS SUMMER ROMANCE TAKES Mnasek (Empire Maker), a $15,000 purchase by Al Rashid NEXT STEP IN BALANCHINE Stables at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale last June, continued to write her fairytale story at Meydan on Thursday, posting her second win from three starts and first stakes win with a facile score in the G3 UAE Oaks. A longshot 6 3/4-length winner on debut going seven furlongs at Meydan on Dec. 17, Mnasek had to settle for second, seven lengths behind Saturday=s Saudi Derby contender Soft Whisper (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), after missing the break in the Listed UAE 1000 Guineas up to a mile on Jan. 28. Away much more smoothly up to 1900 metres on Thursday, Mnasek broke on top from the rail but soon dropped back to allow Jumeirah Beach (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) to take up the running. Fourth and about three lengths off the lead rounding the first bend, jockey Pat Dobbs made a deliberate move to put the filly on the outside midway down the backstretch and she was poised ominously four-wide rounding Summer Romance | DRC/Erika Rasmussen the bend. Shooting to the lead as they straightened, Mnasek By Kelsey Riley drew clear effortlessly to crush her overmatched opposition by Summer Romance (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) was named a >TDN 6 1/2 lengths. Nayefah (Super Saver) made eye-catching Rising Star= on debut when winning a Yarmouth maiden by two headway late to be second, while Last Sunset (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) lengths in June of 2019, and she followed that effort up was third.

PA THOROUGHBRED REPORT March 2021 / Issue No. 84 Madam Meena Madam IN THIS ISSUE PENN VET TEST IS A SPORT BREAKTHROUGH PEACE AND JUSTICE - A SIRE ON THE RISE THE ULTRA-CONSISTENT MADAM MEENA Letter From the Executive Secretary Once again, Governor Wolf has proposed cutting $199 million from the Race Horse Development Trust Fund. Let me begin by saying that this is only a proposal and is very unlikely to gain any traction in the House or the Senate. This same proposal failed to gain any meaningful support last year. This move is illegal and we are confident that the RHDTF will withstand this assault, but we must take every attack on the fund very seriously. I would like to refer you to the following sections of the Trust language: S1405.1 Protection of the Fund – Daily assessments collected or received by the department under section 1405 (relating to the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development Trust Fund) are not funds of the State. S1405.1 – The Commonwealth shall not be rightfully entitled to any money described under this section and sections 1405 and 1406. Our Equine Coalition is made up of Breeder and Horsemen organizations throughout Pennsylvania, both Thoroughbred and Standardbred. We are hard at work with the best lobbying firms in the state to prevent this injustice from happening but we’re going to need your help! If you’re involved in our program and are a resident of PA, please contact your Representative and Senator and tell them your specific story, and if possible, ask others that you may know in our business to share their stories.
