CRIME AWARENESS BULLETIN Joint Base Lewis-McChord Directorate of Emergency Services Police Intelligence / Crime Analysis Unit 30 May 2012 Emerging Drug Trend First there was K2 (Spice) and the slew of synthetic cannabinoids. Then came bath salts; they were new and they were legal. These drugs were available and sold as over-the-counter products in an international web-based marketplace. Many of them were sold in head shops and medical marijuana clinics in the United States. But now these synthetics are all banned, well, most of them anyway. But into the fray now comes "Pump-It Powder," an "enhanced plant vitamin." It's the latest synthetic drug to be manufactured and sold under the ruse of a substance, "not intended for human consumption." With myriad bath salts and plant food products available in the marketplace, uncertainty already reigns. No one quite knows what is in these synthetics. The Internet is full of supposition, but it is not clear at all what manufacturers are putting into their final products. Nevertheless, a great deal of discussion has centered on the role of geranamine as primary constituent of Pump-It. Geranamine is also known as methylhexanamine, an old-time amphetamine-related stimulant and decongestant that is found naturally in the geranium plant, hence its name. Methylhexanamine is a legal substance; it is not scheduled by the DEA. The drug has not been widely studied. It was patented in 1944 and for the most part has been dormant since that time. But in the world of energy drinks and aphrodisiac potions, methylhexanamine has been a prime player.

Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM). 4Agencia Española de protección de la Salud en el Deporte (AEPSAD). Recibido: 30.10.2019 Summary Aceptado: 15.11.2019 There is growing consumption of nutritional supplements aimed at improving performance because the number of athletes, mainly amateurs, is growing very significantly. This great demand supposes a market of huge proportions, supposing an economic activity that in Spain reached 920 million Euros in the year 2018. This consumption occurs at all levels of sport, from 13% in global numbers, to 100% in some groups of professional sportsmen and women. However, the use of these substances in very few circumstances is done under the advice of a professional, and the athlete takes them on their own. This fact, with the possibility that the product to be taken may contain prohibited substances that do not appear on the labeling, means that an adverse analytical finding can occur in a doping control through so-called ac- cidental doping, which is the use of adulterated or contaminated nutritional supplements containing substances prohibited in sport that have not been declared on the labeling. Key words: Between 11.6% and 25.8% of nutritional supplements contaminated with anabolic androgenic steroids have been found to exist.

In particular, a variety of case reports describing individuals experiencing adverse events following the use of DMAA alone or within dietary supplements have fueled these concerns.

Drug Awareness and Recognition R. A. MacKenzie III CEM/CFC/AEMT-P Lewis County Emergency Management Definition of addiction . 1 : the quality or state of being addicted addiction to reading . 2 : compulsive need for and use of a habit- forming substance (such as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly : persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful . Pharmacology . Three main neurotransmitters are affected by these drugs; norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin. Increased concentrations of these transmitters in the neuronal synapse occur via increased release from vesticles through direct stimulation, blockade of pre-synaptic uptake and storage , reduced monoamine oxidase activity, and indirect glutamate pathway stimulation. Modification of the chemical structure can result in a dramatically altered pharmacologic profile. Methyl substitutions at the alpha carbon of the phenylethylamine structure result in strong stimulant, cardiovascular, and anorectic properties. WHAT ??? English Please!!!! All of these categories of drugs alter the senses by ether slowing or stimulating concentrations of norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin in the neuronal synapse. Effects . Tachycardia . • Executive Committee Meeting Minutes, September 21, 2016
Minutes of the WADA Executive Committee Meeting 21 September 2016, Lausanne, Switzerland The meeting began at 9.00 a.m. 1. Welcome, roll call and observers THE CHAIRMAN welcomed the members to the WADA Executive Committee meeting held in the splendid surroundings of the home of the Association of National Olympic Committees, ANOC, in Lausanne. When he walked around and looked at the offices, he was very envious of the quality of the office accommodation. It was very different to his little office at home. He welcomed two new faces to the table, first of all, Mr Mizuochi of Japan, who had taken over as State Minister for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (just a small and easy portfolio), and, representing Mr Kaloko from Africa, Mr Machacha Shepande, who had been present the previous day at the think tank. He had to record that he missed and grieved for a great man, the WADA Vice-President, Dr Stofile. His career in life and in sport had been outstanding in every possible way. He had been a great supporter of WADA. When he had left his diplomatic position in Germany, he had gone home and had immediately gone back into service in his country at a university in South Africa. WADA missed Dr Stofile enormously, and he asked that everybody stand for a moment in his memory. THE CHAIRMAN thanked Ms Lindberg, the Secretary General of ANOC, for hosting WADA in the ANOC facilities. MS LINDBERG wished the members a successful meeting. There was full attendance. He had the attendance sheet, which he would pass to his right for the members to sign.

Occupational Drug Screening using High Resolution Accurate Mass LCMS Simon Hudson, Bob Gray, Jeremy Cook. HFL Sport Science, LGC Health Sciences, Fordham, UK Overview Methods Conclusions Current available information demonstrates the rapid growth in the availability Historically, workplace drug testing has been based on immunoassay technology A batch of samples for analysis for ‘designer’ drugs was submitted to LGC Health Four samples were positive for pentedrone using the enhanced test. Pentedrone and use of substances collectively known as ‘legal highs’. This in turn presents a operating on large clinical analysers. The advantages to this have been low cost, Sciences for ‘workplace drug testing’. The routine workplace analysis using alone, as in Sample13 did not trigger a positive in the conventional test. Likewise, challenge to the delivery of effective meaningfull workplace drug tests. high throughput and adequate performance in terms of drug coverage and Olympus AU2700 clinical analysers with standard test kits was performed on each 4-methylmethcathinone, fluoroephedrine, benzylpiperazine, trifluoro- The comparison of traditional immunoassay/clinical analyser based workplace sensitivity. The main disadvantages have been the availability of tests and, more sample. methylphenylpiperazine and methylhexanamine did not generate a positive result drug testing with a broad coverage LCMS approach demonstrates clearly that the recently, the ability to keep up with the emergence of new ‘legal’ highs. The same samples were also submitted for the ‘Enhanced Workplace Test’ as on the clinical analyser. traditional approach is severely limited in terms of drug coverage. The use of high 60 follows. 4-methylmethcathinone was detected in the conventional workplace test for Beta glucuronidase hydrolysed urine samples were prepared for analysis using a resolution accurate mass LCMS delivers several performance advantages:- 50 A recent phenomenon is that of syn- sample 12.
