This thesis seeks to identify the challenges to the Pakistan public and private electronic media sectors in terms of enforcement. Despite its importance and growth, there is a lack of research on the enforcement and regulatory supervision of the electronic media sector in Pakistan. This study examines the sector and identifies the action required to improve the current situation. To this end, it focuses on five aspects: (i) Institutional arrangements: institutions play a key role in regulating the system properly. (ii) Legislative and regulatory arrangements: legislation enables the electronic media system to run smoothly. -

Media coverage for development of agricultural sector: An analytical study 555 MEDIA COVERAGE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF AGRICULTURE SECTOR: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF TELEVISION CHANNELS IN PAKISTAN Anjum Zia* and Ayesha Khan** ABSTRACT Agriculture sector is considered to be the bedrock of Pakistan’s economy as it plays an important role, directly as well as indirectly, in generating economic and industrial growth. In-spite of such a great significance, the speed of agricultural development in Pakistan is very low. Agricultural production can be increased considerably if available modern production technologies are adopted by the farming community. Media is considered to be one of the best tools to create awareness about the effectiveness and application of new technologies. So the present study was conducted in the Department of Mass Communication, Lahore College for Women, Lahore, Pakistan during the year 2011 to determine extent of television coverage for development of agriculture sector in Pakistan for the period 2006-2010. Data were collected from media practitioners of private and public television channels by applying intensive interview technique. The study concludes that there is only one dedicated television channel (Sohni Dharti) for agriculture sector out of 82 channels. Indeed, a single agricultural channel is inadequate for an agrarian country having 67 percent of total population living in rural areas and 44.7 percent of them connected to farming. The data further indicate that no other television channel was giving due coverage to third largest sector of the economy. However, these television channels were found occasionally accommodating agricultural news items/news packages in their current affair programmes and news bulletins. -

July 2021 Programs for Children: Pakistani Televisions’ Content in 2020 Nabila Tabassum1 Abstract Television can play a significant role in nation building and children are generally viewed to be playing a vital role in building the image of a nation. Due to its significance, recent years have seen a worldwide rise in the media content that focuses children as the target audience. Several studies had investigated Pakistani televisions’ content with reference to adults, women and youth audiences. Studies related to children had mostly focused on the impact of television content on children or children's attitudes towards television content. However, the impact of educating and entertaining television on Pakistani children has received limited attention. Therefore, this paper initiated to examine the role of Pakistani television channels to educate or entertain Pakistani children, during January-December 2020. The foremost objective of this paper is to examine the proportion of children's programs in the top four Pakistani entertainment television channels. For this reason, the transmissions of top five Pakistani general entertainment television channels were taken into account included; Hum TV HD, ARY Digital, Geo Entertainment, and ARY Zindagi. The study found only a few programs for children that were fulfilling the purposes of entertaining and educating. Hence, Pakistani television channels are not fulfilling their responsibility in nation-building, as being a social agent of change, the media is responsible to play a key role in building their character and improving the ethical standards of Pakistani children. Facts relevant to this petition are that pursuant to the complaint received through Director Information, Information Department, Government of Sindh, against officers/officials of Information Department regarding their involvement in corruption and corrupt practices in Advertisement Section, the investigation was followed and in due course it was revealed that during the period from July 2013 to June 2015 an amount of Rs.5,766,479,766/- was paid by Sindh Information Department to different advertising agencies for awareness campaigns in violation of Sindh Public Procurement Rules 2010 and the accused nominated in the reference in connivance with each other caused heavy loss to the national exchequer to the tune of Rs.3,279,177,029/-, hence this reference CP D 4548 of 2018 Page 2 of 10 has been filed on 28.09.2016 nominating seventeen {17} accused persons including the present petitioner. -
