History: It is divided in: Maltese European & International History

In History, students are expected to study & understand: Political History (Wars, Unifications, ’s Independence & , European Revolutions, the Knights of St. John in Malta, Maltese Constitutional History etc.) Social & Economic History (the , Communism, Socialism, Fascism, Nazism, Economic Crises, War effects on population, Maltese social & economic history 1800 - 2004 etc.)

Classwork & Homework: A lot of documentaries & discussions A lot of reading A lot of English Language

Why do I choose History?

 It is the only subject which is found in any other subject.  It teaches the student how to do research.  It helps a lot in the improvement of one’s personal Eng. Lang. standard.  Careers & University Courses connected to History: 1. Teaching 2. History of Art 3. Philosophy 4. International Relations 5. Foreign Affairs – Embassies, Council of , European Parliament, etc. 6. Administration in Government Departments 7. Constitutional History in Constitutional Law – Law Degree 8. History of Art & Architecture – Architecture degree 9. Political Science

Like ALL other subjects and like ALL other options, History is NOT an easy option. Students need to work and study in order to learn and obtain their SEC certificate.

History in Environmental Studies Malta (1800 – 2000): Population, settlement patterns, housing, public health, education, transport.

The Maltese way of life: community organisations – legal, religious, political, educational, leisure, etc.

Maltese Cultural Heritage: language, culture, customs & traditions, etc.

Architectural Heritage (History) of Malta: from the temples to contemporary (today’s) architecture.

Mediterranean Architecture: Acropolis (Athens), Sabratha (), Colosseum (Rome), Alhambra (Granada, Spain), Pyramid of Giza (), Valley of the Temples (, Scicily), (Tunisia).

Project (15 marks in SEC) b) An example of British architecture: style and past/present function. c) Public – past and present: changes and progress at the national level.
