The purpose of the visit was to interact with the entrepreneur, an activity which forms part of the students’ business Master’s Degree Programme. The students selected Divine Morula as one of the businesses to visit in Botswana, mainly because the business uses a natural resource, Morula as raw material for its various products. Divine Morula is housed at the Pilane Incubator and manufactures food items and beverages which includes; Morula jam, drink, syrup and cosmetics.

In welcoming the guests, the Pilane Multi-Purpose Incubator Manager, Mr. Mothusi Kelebogile shared background information on the strides made by the Botswana Government in developing and promoting entrepreneurship among citizens. He explained that LEA capacitates entrepreneurs and enterprises through targeted interventions such as business advisory services, training, mentoring, facilitation of access to finance, technology support and market access.

Ms. Matilda Mpai, the owner of Divine Morula addressed the students and took them through the journey she took in establishing her business to its present status. The abundance of the indigenous Morula fruit and the quest for women empowerment are also the factors that further drove her determination. She indicated that as a way of her contribution to women empowerment, there is a group of women she engages to assist in the harvesting of the Morula fruit. She also engages the group in the marketing of the finished products and mentors them to start their own businesses. Such teachings include how to make soap using the residual cakes that are produced after extracting oil from the Morula nut.

In interacting with the entrepreneur, the students enquired among other things, the products’ marketing/sales channels as well as the challenges and successes in running the business. Ms. Mpai shared the progress that has been attained since the business was established and explained the relationship she has with LEA.

On behalf of the students, the leader of the group, Mr. Trevor Shah expressed his appreciation for the information Mrs. Mpai shared on her business. The HEC Paris Team also presented an Infra-red Thermometer to Divine Morula; an instrument the client has long been unsuccessfully trying to source for use during her production. The team also thanked LEA for its services to SMMEs in Botswana and encouraged the Authority to continue with the good work.
