According to the CIA World Fact book, the West Bank consists of 5,860 square kilometers of territory (slightly smaller than the State of Delaware). From 97 to 948, the West Bank, along with the Old City and the Eastern neighborhood of Jerusalem, was under British control as part of the Mandate of Palestine. After the Arab-Israeli War of 948, also known as the Palestinian Nakba or Israel’s War of Independence, these areas were taken under Jordanian control.
