History Chassis Number 0060019 Preface History chassis number 0060019 In 1976 the Kremer brothers assembled the Porsche Kremer K1, chassis number 0060019, based on a body shell of Porsche Stuttgart. In the years 1976 and 1977 Bob Wollek successfully raced with the car in the World Championship and other racing series. In 1978 the race drivers Kannacher and Konrad sold the original chassis to the Luxembourger racer John Lagodny. Having acquired his new racecar, Lagodny drove the 935 to success in mountain races throughout 1978 and 1979. In 1978 the chassis 0060019 came to fame under Lagodny, becoming that year’s Belgian Champion. Unfortunately in 1979, in a mountain race in Bolzano, Italy, Lagodny wrecked his car and the chassis disappeared for a number of years. Press Information Meet the Heroes of Le Mans Mission 2014. Our Return. Porsche at Le Mans Meet the Heroes of Le Mans • Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1 Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans Porsche in the starting line-up for 63 years The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the most famous endurance race in the world. The post-war story of the 24 Heures du Mans begins in the year 1949. And already in 1951 – the pro - duction of the first sports cars in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen commenced in March the previous year – a small delegation from Porsche KG tackles the high-speed circuit 200 kilometres west of Paris in the Sarthe department. Class victory right at the outset for the 356 SL Aluminium Coupé marks the beginning of one of the most illustrious legends in motor racing: Porsche and Le Mans. Race cars from Porsche have contested Le Mans every year since 1951. The reward for this incredible stamina (Porsche is the only marque to have competed for 63 years without a break) is a raft of records, including 16 overall wins and 102 class victories to 2013. The sporting competition and success at the top echelon of racing in one of the world’s most famous arenas is as much a part of Porsche as the number combination 911. After a number of class wins in the early fifties with the 550, the first time on the podium in the overall classification came in 1958 with the 718 RSK clinching third place.

Over a period of some twelve years, this model racked up 232 international victories on every continent in the world. This included the World Sportscar Championship, IMSA, Japanese Sportscar Championship, DRM, Interserie, Supercup and Can-Am. No other car of its type was successful for more than one or two seasons at best, but the 956/962 reigned supreme for at www.porscheroadandrace.com least 6-8 years, and was successful at an international level for up to twelve years. This is the story of the works Porsche 962-006. Rothmans Porsche 962C (chassis #006) 1987 Le Mans 24 Hour winner photographed at Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, May 2017 If you speak to any of the Porsche engineers associated with the development of the 956 or the 962, you will be told that these two models are regarded within the racing department as one model. In an interview with Jürgen Barth in 2011, I asked him what the difference between the 956 and 962 meant to them in the race department, and he replied, “No difference, it was only the length of the chassis. For me it [the 956 and 962] is the same thing.” www.porscheroadandrace.com Rothmans Porsche 962C (chassis #006) 1987 Le Mans 24 Hour winner photographed at Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, May 2017 Only ten examples each of the 956 and 962 models were made and retained by the factory for use by the official works teams in period, with a further total of (approximately) 130 units being manufactured for the various privateer teams over a 12-year period.

How Mercedes-Benz skirted a racing ban with AMG's Red Pig We dig into the history of the 300SEL 6.3 racecar, And drive the official modern replica by Andrew English // September 05, 2017 Walking up to the Red Pig (a.k.a. die Röte Sau), you’d never guess it’s actually a replica of AMG’s first-ever race car, a 300SEL 6.3 that won its class and came second overall in the 1971 Spa Francorchamps 24 hours. How that original car came to be is almost as unbelievable. Underneath the period stickers for Camel cigarettes and Levi Jeans, this car is redder than a fire engine. The surprisingly lithe shape, fashioned in thick Stuttgart steel, has been raceified with cartoonish extended wheel arches over massive tires. The conversion is both shocking and thrilling, ’70s Modsports engineering versus Paul Braque’s elegant design for the Mercedes-Benz W108/109 S-class. Climb in through the roll cage, settle in the unnerving bucket seat, and fasten four-point Willans belts. The dash is pretty standard ’60s S-class, with classy light-wood veneer and a twin-dial binnacle. A watch-sized rev counter sit in between the stock instrument cluster, complemented by a square clock as big as, um, a packet of Camels. Start it up it and the muffled growl of a big bore V-8 sounds like a box of bears. And the replica isn’t even as monstrous as the original. “It was an amazing car—enormous with huge speed,” says Hans Heyer, who drove the Red Pig, along with Clemens Schickentanz.

In 1978, Norbert Singer was responsible for building the ultimate factory 935, the Moby Dick 935/78, and although this race car had a very short active racing life, it has gone down in history as one of the most iconic 935s of all time. Despite winning only one race, the Silverstone 6 Hours on 14 May 1978, Porsche’s Moby Dick became one of the most copied 911s of its era. www.porscheroadandrace.com 1981 Porsche Kremer 935 K4 – chassis #K4-01 After the Moby Dick 935/78 had raced at Silverstone and in the Le Mans 24 Hours that year, the car was retired, as the factory’s attention turned to the next generation of race cars. However, Porsche allowed some private teams with close ties to the factory, to continue purchasing components and drivetrains for the 935, but they were left to design and produce their own upgraded chassis and bodywork. One of those privateer teams, Kremer Racing, did a particularly good job during the late ‘70s, creating the 935 K1 (1976), K2 (1977) and K3 (1979). Kremer Racing, based in Cologne, Germany, didn’t restrict their work to just mechanical preparation and assembly, but they also developed their own bodywork which really set them apart from the rest of the field.

The ‚DRM’ (=Deutsche Rennsport-Meisterschaft) was the most important German racing series from 1972 to 1985, which got designed to establish a title with international meaning and relevance. 14 years of touring- and sports car racing of the highest level that motorsports can offer. Classic touring cars and GT were the start: The main features of the sports gear were stripped out, lightened car bodies, performance-enhanced engines and improved suspensions, transmissions and brakes. Stronger, lighter, faster - the tubular frame designs of Group 5 coupled with the turbo age are what subsequently gave the DRM probably the best and most spectacular races. Group C ultimately heralded the end: fascinating, thoroughbred racing cars, but simply too expensive for a national championship to offer the series a future.
