Frank: A History for Today Developed by the and sponsored in North America by The Anne Frank Center USA

The Museum of Fine Arts, Florida State University, announces Anne Frank: A History for Today opening on January 4 and closing February 7, 2016. All exhibitions & receptions are free & open to the public. Anne Frank: A History for Today was developed by the Anne Frank House and is sponsored in North America by The Anne Frank Center USA. Founded in 1977 by Anne’s father Otto, the only family member to survive the , The Anne Frank Center USA, provides educational programs and exhibits throughout the US and Canada. The life story of Anne Frank, a German Jewish teenager, and her family is the centerpiece of the exhibit which depicts the life of Anne from her birth in 1929 through her death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in March 1945 at the age of 15. It introduces visitors to the history of WWI and WWII, juxtaposing photographs of the Frank family with images of historical events of the time.

Anne’s diary, published in 1947, was an instant international success and subsequently became an acclaimed play and movie still performed and shown today. The house in which the family hid for 25 months during WWII attracts hordes of visitors daily in Amsterdam. More than 65 years after it was first published,The Diary of Anne Frank continues to inspire and teach. The exhibition Anne Frank: A History for Today encourages visitors to learn about racism, ethnic cleansing, and genocide, as well as human rights, democracy and conflict resolution. The importance of individual action – then and now – is a key component of the exhibition challenging visitors to engage with current events and to take an active role in their communities and government. Dates & Hours: January 4 – February 7, 2016. Monday – Friday 9am to 4pm, daily; Saturday & Sunday 1-4pm. Closed on January 18 in observation of the birthdate of Martin Luther King, Jr. To schedule tours, please call 645-4681. Parking: Metered parking on the lower level of the adjacent Call Street Garage M-F 8-4:30 pm (access from Macomb Street). After 4:30, and on weekends, all legal spaces are available to visitors.
