24TH SALON DU CHOCOLAT – POST-SHOW REPORT 31 October - 4 November 2018 Pavilion 4 - Porte de Versailles

• This year, the Salon du Chocolat attracted some 110,000 visitors and more than 500 participants from 60 different countries. Now more than ever, the Salon du Chocolat has staked its position as an unmissable international platform, where industry professionals and consumers can get together and celebrate chocolate and cocoa.

• Over five days, the 24,000 sqm show brought together the biggest names in chocolate and pastry - and the largest gathering of cocoa-producing countries - right in the heart of Paris. This was a unique opportunity for the visiting public to see the latest chocolate trends and finest cocoa products from all around the world.

• This was a delicious, festive and indulgent experience for visitors who flocked in over the November school holidays. This year, the focus was on Nature and healthy living, a theme explored widely across the assorted activities and by exhibitors.

• Acclaimed by all chocolate lovers and experts, the Salon du Chocolat is a national and international label which was placed under the High Patronage of Mr Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, for the second year.

• Chocoholics were able to follow the event online too, with almost 320,000 visits to the website in the month leading up to the Salon. The show has been growing from strength to strength on social media as well, driven by a Facebook page with almost 114,300 fans and an Instagram feed with more than 43,000 followers.

A DELICIOUS AND INDULGENT OPENING EVENING - FOR A GOOD CAUSE!

For the third year running, the Salon opened its doors with an inaugural gala evening in support of the Association Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque. It was a stunning success, with more than 1,200 chocolate-lovers contributing to the cause. Thanks to their support, a child suffering from a cardiac deformation can now benefit from surgery. The opening evening was attended by dignitaries such as Ms Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris and Ms Babette de Rozières, representing the Ile de and the Cité de la Gastronomie, as well as a number of ambassadors. They (and the visiting public) were able to get a sneak preview of the show and enjoy a show hosted by Laurence Roustandjee and featuring VIPs in chocolate outfits, a special concert by the electro-pop duo Kiz, and the Animal Totem show.

THE SALON DU CHOCOLAT JUNIOR

After last year’s success, the Salon du Chocolat Junior was back at the Porte de Versailles for 5 days packed with fun, educational and delicious experiences for young chocolate lovers - in partnership with the TiJi, Gulli and CANAL J TV channels.

Budding chocolatiers had the run of a whole series of spaces dedicated to discovery and experiments. In the spaces run by TiJi, Gulli and CANAL J, the little chefs enjoyed choco-centric workshops hosted by Claire Verneil and Elodie Martens, the Gu’live, the Car podium and shows by Oggy and the Cockroaches (drawing workshops, cockroach attack, make-a-face contests). They also had the opportunity to meet their favourite YouTube stars: Une Ptite Jajoux, Enzo Tais-Toi!, DavidLafargePokemon, Les Fusional Sisters, Gabin and Lili, and see the opening of the Spirit series, performed by the YouTube star Satine Wallé. And don’t forget the dance workshops with Khriss, Gaëlle and Moussier Tombola, the digital graffiti workshop, the chances to meet their favourite heroes, book-signing with Véronique Petit (winner of the Gulli prize in 2018), the virtual reality experience with Unicef France, the Gullimax Challenge with Gaëlle and Moussier Tombola and the “Crazy Khriss Dance Party” every morning on the Cacao Show podium.

Alongside the TiJi, Gulli and CANAL J spaces, the Salon du Chocolat Junior ran a whole host of activities that younger visitors adored: • At the Pastry Show Junior, the chefs from the Atelier des Sens hosted baking workshops and demonstrated simple recipes that families can make at home. • Thanks to Bio C’Bon, a Great Big Organic Snack was provided to children and their parents. • Panda Color ran workshops which gave kids the chance to make their own chocolate lollipops, decorate biscuits with chocolate and even draw with chocolate. • Le Petit Ourson Guimauve was the star of this year’s CEMOI stand. Children were given their own bears to cover with fun and delicious decorations under the kindly eye of Morgane Sirguey, food blogger and expert in cake design. • Lastly, there was a production line where kids could discover all the different steps in the chocolate production process with Bonnat Chocolatier.
