  • Secretariat of the Headquarters for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Cabinet Secretariat Greetings
Secretariat of the Headquarters for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Cabinet Secretariat Greetings HASHIMOTO Seiko “Host Town Summit 2021” will be our 4th summit since our first one held in 2018. Last year’s“Host Town Summit 2020” was unfortunately cancelled from the perspective of preventing the spread of COVID-19 infections. Since then, the pandemic continued to worsen all over the world, which finally led to postponement of the Tokyo Games. If the Tokyo Games had been held, the warm exchanges at Host Towns all over Japan would have taken place with many“stories” spinning out. The exchanges in the Host Towns were also under a series of trial and error, as to how to proceed in response to the pandemic. However, the Host Towns have been steadily doing what they can, even under the difficult situation. Since meeting directly is not suitable, Host Towns met the athletes online, and sent messages of encouragement to partner countries and regions suffering from COVID-19. They have thought of unique ways to interact, such as preparing recipes based on the cuisine of the partner countries and regions. Online exchange was merely an alternative solution at the beginning, but turned out to possess great potential to connect children of the Host Towns with the athletes. This new means of exchange will remain as a legacy even after the Tokyo Games, to be a foundation for future exchanges. "Host Town Summit 2021" will be held completely online, a first of its kind. Please enjoy the accomplishments of the Host Towns through their hard work interacting with partner countries and regions, even under the various restrictions.
