FINA Development Programme Report 2013-2016

FINA Schools 2-7 FINA Clinics 8-13 FINA Continental Subsidy 14-25 FINA SCHOOLS

In order to enable Officials, Judges and Referees to officiate in FINA events such as FINA World Cups and FINA World Championships, they must attend a FINA School in their respective discipline and pass a final certification exam.

The FINA Schools are intended to train and certify Officials, Judges and Referees in five aquatic disciplines:

Continental Championships Subsidy l 17 2016 UANA Synchronised Swimming Championship

Dates: 30 August - 4 September 2016 Location: San Juan Natatorium. San Juan, Puerto Rico (PUR)

• The event included Synchronised Swimming competitions. • Participants: the event brought together UANA Championships (PUR) 264 athletes from 14 National Federations (ARG, ARU, BRA, CAN, COL, CRC, CUR, DOM, MEX, PAN, PUR, USA, URU, VEN). • Officials: over 60 local and continental technical officials were in attendance for each session of the competition. • Results: 7 Championships records and 1 Continental record were broken.

Dates: 19-23 October 2016 Location: Stadium Swimming Pool Bloemfontein, South Africa (RSA)

• The event included Swimming and Open Water Swimming competitions. • Participants: the event brought together CANA Championships (RSA) over 200 athletes from 23 CANA member countries. • Officials: over 60 local and continental technical officials were in attendance for each session of the competition. • Results: 7 Championships records and 1 Continental record were broken.

5th CANA Zone 2 Swimming Championships CANA Championships (RSA) Dates: 27-29 Mai 2016 Location: Piscine Olympique de Dakar. Dakar, Senegal (SEN)

• Participants: the event brought together over 54 athletes (36 male swimmers and 18 female swimmers) from 12 countries (BEN, BUR, CAF, CIV, GUI, GAM, MLI, NIG, NGR, SEN, SLE, TGO). • Officials: the event was officiated by 50 technical officials from 5 countries. Continental Championships Subsidy l 21 2nd CANA Zone 3 Swimming Championships

Dates: 19-20 Novermber 2016 Location: Golden Tulip Hotel Swimming Pool. Kigali, Rwanda (RWA)

• Participants: over 150 swimmers from 5 countries (RSA, RWA, TAN, UGA, ZAM) took part in the two-day event with an CANA - Zone 3 Ch. (RWA) average of 100 spectators in attendance daily. • Officials: the event was officiated by technical officials from 4 countries.

14th CANA Zone 4 Swimming Championships

Dates: 20-23 April 2016 Location: Afred Serge Swimming Pool. Beau Bassin, Mauritius (MRI) CANA - Zone 4 Ch. (MRI)

• Participants: this was the biggest edition in the 14-year history of this competition, with 248 athletes (134 male swimmers and 114 female swimmers) from 14 countries (ANG, BOT, KEN, MAW, MOZ, MRI, NAM, RSA, SEY, TAN, UGA, ZAM, ZIM). The event was opened to countries from Zone 3. • Officials: the event was officiated by 50 technical officials. CANA - Zone 4 Ch. (MRI) • The local support for this annual event was outstanding with the spectators stands full each afternoon. There was daily press coverage of the event.

Continental Championships Subsidy l 23 11th Oceania Swimming Championships

Dates: 19 -26 June 2016 Location: Damodar National Aquatic Centre. Suva, Fiji (FIJ)

• The event included swimming, synchronised swimming and open water swimming competitions. OSA Championships (FIJ) • Participants: the event brought together 190 athletes from 12 National Federations (AUS, COK, FIJ, FSM, GUM, MHL, NMA, NZL, PLW, PNG, SAM, TGA). • Officials: over 60 local and continental technical officials were in attendance for each session of the competition. • Results: 7 Championships records and 1 Continental record were broken. • For the first time, the event was broadcasted live on National TV and OSA Championships (FIJ) worlwide accessible via live streaming.
