45 FIS SKI FLYING

The FIS Ski Flying World Championships is a thrilling event organized by the International Ski Federation, held every 2 years, appealing to new audiences in search of drama and exciting viewing.

There are just 5 ski flying hills in the world, in Harrachov (CZE), Vikersund (NOR), Planica (SLO), Kulm (AUT) and Oberstdorf (GER). These hills are much larger than ski-jumping hills, with the K-point set between 185 metres and 200 metres. Unlike ordinary ski jumping, the Ski Flying World Champion is determined after 4 jumps. 40 jumpers qualify for the competition and jump the first round, 10 are eliminated, and the 30 remaining jumpers compete in the last 3 rounds. The athlete with the most points after 4 jumps is named World Champion.

Finland, Norway, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Poland and Japan are the top nations in Ski Flying. France, Russia, Italy or US will be challenging these ‘reigning stars’ at Planica 2020.

The FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2020 will take place in Planica (Slovenia). Eurovision Sport will distribute these rights until 2024.

47 IBU BIATHLON

The winter Olympic sport of Biathlon combines the endurance of free-technique cross- country skiing with precision small-ball rifle marksmanship. The combination of 2 very different disciplines in the same competition – skiing and shooting – presents the athletes with an extremely demanding challenge.

This popular spectator sport draws a huge audience, not only at the competitions themselves but also on screen – not surprisingly as biathlon offers a wide spectrum of activities in a single event. For example, spectators can view starts, shooting, penalty loops and finishes, at all times aware of who is in the lead. Whether on the competition trails or in the stadium, the experience is just as exhilarating for the spectators, who can follow exciting duels between the athletes at close range.
