THE PASSAGE OF THE COMIC BOOK TO THE ANIMATED FILM: THE CASE OF THE SMURFS Frances Novier Baldwin, B.A. Thesis Prepared for the Degree of MASTER OF ARTS UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS August 2011 APPROVED: Marie-Christine Koop, Major Professor and Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures Christophe Chaguinian, Committee Member Lawrence Williams, Committee Member James D. Meernik, Acting Dean of the Toulouse Graduate School Baldwin, Frances Novier. The Passage of the Comic Book to the Animated Film: The Case of the Smurfs. Master of Arts (French), August 2011, 56 pp., bibliography, 31 titles. The purpose of this study is to explore the influence of history and culture on the passage of the comic book to the animated film. Although the comic book has both historical and cultural components, the latter often undergoes a cultural shift in the animation process. Using the Smurfs as a case study, this investigation first reviews existing literature pertaining to the comic book as an art form, the influence of history and culture on Smurf story plots, and the translation of the comic book into a moving picture. This study then utilizes authentic documents and interviews to analyze the perceptions of success and failure in the transformation of the Smurf comic book into animation: concluding that original meaning is often altered in the translation to meet the criteria of cultural relevance for the new audiences. Copyright 2011 By Frances Novier Baldwin ii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I am particularly grateful to Dr. Marie-Christine Koop for suggesting the topic for my thesis. For their instruction and guidance, I am also obliged to Drs.

FREETHE SMURFS #22: THE SMURF MENACE EBOOK Peyo | 64 pages | 14 Feb 2017 | Papercutz | 9781629916224 | English | New York, United States The Smurfs # The Smurf Menace - YES24 The Smurfs opens this Friday, and is being marketed as a fun, 3-D family adventure filled with harmless cute little guys in white caps. So be The Smurfs #22: The Smurf Menace, parents! Before you blindly allow your children to be brainwashed by this angry blue menace, you should carefully read this field guide to Smurfs conspiracy theories. Remember: Smurf-warned is Smurf-armed! Because in that album, the Smurfs are sick. And when they become black, they lose all trace of intelligence. The Smurfs Are Closet Commies! Since communism stresses unity, anyone with knowledge of other matters than what is beyond the scope of the village is classified as a dissident, thus disrupting the common The Smurfs #22: The Smurf Menace of the entire entity. Sonntag, Esq. Parents knew it; elders knew it. It proved the point that Satan was treacherous and vile, like a serpent. He would stop at nothing to turn us away from Jehovah, even targeting unsuspecting children … Smurfs, it seemed, were decidedly un-Smurf-y. And for my self-sacrifice in this matter, Jehovah found me totally Smurftastic. Although she is the focus of some childish heterosexual rivalries, especially between The Smurfs #22: The Smurf Menace and Handy, there is never any real heterosexual tension in the Village. The tension is more between Hefty and Handy themselves, who seem to be more interested in impressing each other than Smurfette.

Once upon a time, long ago, in a wooded forest, lived happy little creatures called Smurfs. They were good, living in harmony with nature and lending a helping hand to all creatures great and small. But there also lived an evil wizard named Gargamel. He was BAAAAAAD!!! Why he hated the Smurfs so much, not even his Mummy knew. But he was committed to getting them if it was the last thing he ever did. Now the forest is still there. And if you listen very carefully, you might still hear Gargamel yelling in anger. And, if you're good, you just might catch a glimpse of US... The Smurfs! Introduction This e-book is a collection of original comic strips, drawings and animation-style expression sheets of the Smurfs, those little blue characters created by the late Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford, better known by his pen name Peyo. In recent years they've had a revival in pop culture thanks to the motion pictures The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2 from Sony Pictures Studios. I found myself caught up in the latest wave of smurfmania when I was at a local McDonald's near John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California after work.

  • Brussels Airport, 22 June 2017 the Smurfs Wish Passengers at Brussels Airport a Nice Journey! Since This Afternoon, Papa Smurf
Brussels Airport, 22 June 2017 The Smurfs wish passengers at Brussels Airport a nice journey! Since this afternoon, Papa Smurf, Smurfette and Baby Smurf have arrived at Brussels Airport to wave off the passengers who leave from Gates B. In the relaxation and shopping area leading to Pier B, a statue has been unveiled of the blue Belgian comic book heroes, the final touch to a thorough renovation of this area where the Belgian tastes, identity and icons immerse passengers for one last time in the culture of our country. The statue of the Smurfs at Brussels Airport is inspired by album 14, “The Aerosmurf”, which was published in 1990 and in which the Smurfs appropriately fly a red aeroplane. That same aeroplane formed the basis for the creative minds to conjure up an airport scene. Papa Smurf is the marshaller who indicates where and how the aeroplane should park. Smurfette and Baby Smurf oversee things. “I am very pleased to welcome the Smurfs to Brussels Airport. For decades they have been an internationally famous icon of our country and are, just like the Tintin rocket in Connector, the perfect representatives of Belgian creativity and our rich comic book culture. We have therefore given the Smurfs a place of honour in the completely renovated area where passengers can enjoy the Belgian culture and cuisine”, says Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company. The Smurfs, the small blue comic book heroes created by Peyo (pen name of Pierre Culliford), first saw the light of day in 1958. In their nearly 60-year existence they succeeded in acquiring world fame.

  • The Smurf Creature Was Created After the Comics of Smurfs Created by Peyo, and Owned by IMPS
Blue Dwarf – Smurf (Homus minor Magicus) The Smurf Creature was created after the comics of Smurfs created by Peyo, and owned by IMPS. Therefore, no commercial usage of the Smurf may be done without written consent of this company. In no way the usage of the Smurf as D&D character/race is ever allowed to be used commercially, without written consent of this company. The Smurf as was “created” here, for use with the D&D Game, was created for personal use only, and was created in respect to and after that of the memory of their late original creator; Peyo, and his son Thierry. Peyo and Thierry are also used in this purely fantasy piece, and are depicted as heroes in respect to their work. I hope this “creation” as D&D race will make lots of fun with the Smurfs, and is in no way intended as an infringement of any of their incorporated rights. To Players willing to play a Smurf character, I suggest reading the Smurf and Johan & Pirrewiet comics, and viewing the Smurf cartoons. Have lots of friendly fun. Smurfs are intended to be played as a friendly race and are not fun to be played as common character races, which regularly slay other creatures. Smurfs are like fairies, more pacifistic, and should therefore be played as thus. Even Gnaps (Black smurfs) are not truly evil, yet are only a bit more malign. A Smurf can and may never be used as an evil character. Animated Smurf Prelude; History; Peyo Type Humanoid (Created) In the early years of Alphatia after landfall, a curious mage artist escaped enchanted from the bonds of the Alphatian Empire and fled to the unexplored Climate/Terrain Deep Forest continent of Skothar.
