She is the first popularly elected woman to lead the City of Sydney and the longest serving Mayor since city government incorporation in 1842. She was re-elected for her fourth term in 2016 with her Independent team receiving a 10% swing. Clover also served as an Independent member of the NSW Parliament from March 1988 to September 2012, and was concurrently Lord Mayor and Member for Sydney for 8 years until the State legislated against the one person holding both positions. Throughout her public life, in both State and Local Governments, Clover has championed progressive policies, achieving reforms which increase government transparency, champion our environment and protect the vulnerable. As Lord Mayor, Clover initiated Sustainable Sydney 2030, an internationally renowned long term plan to secure Sydney’s future as a leading green liveable and creative city. This plan includes ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse emissions. In 2007, the City became the first government in Australia to be carbon neutral, and in 2014 received the European Solar Prize for its Renewable Energy Master Plan. Under her leadership, the City of Sydney has developed a global reputation for delivering award winning facilities; protecting and enhancing open space; promoting design excellence for private development; delivering new transport options, particularly safe cycling; promoting and expanding the City’s cultural and creative life and initiating progressive solutions to complex city social problems such as affordable housing and related homelessness. keynote speaker The Hon. Anthony Roberts MP NSW Minister for Planning, NSW Minister for Housing, Special Minister of State The Hon Anthony Roberts MP is the NSW Minister for Planning, Minister for Housing and Special Minister of State. Elected as the Member for Lane Cove in 2003, Anthony previously served as the NSW Minister for Industry, Resources and Energy from December 2013 to January 2017 as well as the Minister for Fair Trading from March 2011 to December 2013. Prior to becoming a Member of the NSW Parliament, he served as Mayor of Lane Cove Municipal Council and was an adviser to former Prime Minister John Howard. A former Captain in the Australian Army Reserves, Anthony proudly served in peace keeping operations in Bougainville as part of Operation Bel Isi. Philip is an Infrastructure Advisory Partner with Deloitte and has successfully led global organisations delivering policy reform, strategy development and implementation, infrastructure projects from problem definition to operation, and the transformation of service delivery outcomes. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer, a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Philip was until recently, the CEO of Infrastructure Australia, and led the development of the national Australian Infrastructure Audit, the 15 year Australian Infrastructure Plan, a series of planning and market reform recommendations, and the development of the national list of priority investments, the Infrastructure Priority List. Philip has a comprehensive understanding of the nationally significant investments and reforms Australia needs to meet a rapidly growing population and maintain Australian’s Quality of life, the connectivity of regional Australia and the liveability of our Cities. He re-established Infrastructure Australia as an independent statutory body and worked closely with all States and Territories, as well as the Commonwealth, to develop a consensus list of priorities. He was the champion for the establishment of the inquiry to inform the development of a National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy which is currently being developed by the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities.
