Hi All, Music Is Foundational to My Human Hi All, Music is foundational to my human experience. Over the decades I have amassed a library of songs that each give audio to some aspect of who I am, who I wish to be, what I’ve been through, how I think, or what it’s like to be me. The time has come to share these songs with you. Below is a playlist of my top 200 songs. Most can be found in this YouTube playlist. For each artist, I have included a link to a song and the album it’s from. These songs / sounds are the closest to me, evoke emotion in me, or tell a story or conviction I want to share. Please enjoy! Songs labeled with an asterisk* are songs I have shed tears to. The emotions they evoke are powerful. Please let me know if any sound touches you, too. If you have artists, albums, or songs to share, please send them my way. I am always seeking to add to my collections. Please consider buying any albums you like to support these content creators, so they can make more for us all to enjoy. Her artistic triumphs encompass chart-topping hits, platinum albums, and successful forays into several genres of popular music. Through her multi-faceted solo career and her legacy as an original vocalist in the group Sister Sledge, which included her lead vocals on worldwide anthems like "We Are Family" and "He's the Greatest Dancer," she's inspired millions of listeners across all generations. Kathy is currently traversing new terrain with her critically acclaimed show The Brighter Side of Day: A Tribute to Billie Holiday plus studio projects that span elements of R&B, rock, and EDM. Indeed, Kathy's reached a fascinating juncture in her journey. That journey began in Philadelphia. The youngest of five daughters born to Edwin and Florez Sledge, Kathy possessed a prodigious musical talent. Her grandmother was an opera singer who taught her harmonies while her father was one-half of Fred & Sledge, the tapping duo who broke racial barriers on Broadway. "I learned the art of music from my father and my grandmother. The business part of music was instilled through my mother," she says. Schooled on an eclectic array of artists like Nancy Wilson and Mongo Santamaría, Kathy and her sisters honed their act around Philadelphia and signed a recording contract with Atco Records.

  • January 2018 Gallery Exhibit: HOPE Houston Artist and Long-Time WAS-H Friend and Instructor Ellen Orseck Judged the January Monthly Exhibit
Watercolor Art Society - Houston | Washrag Newsletter | February 2018 1 February 2018 January 2018 Gallery Exhibit: HOPE Houston artist and long-time WAS-H friend and instructor Ellen Orseck judged the January Monthly Exhibit. Her prevailing comment on all the work was that each piece, in its own way, spoke to the much needed quality of HOPE in our world today. The winners are: 1st Place - Christine Bunger “See the Light” 2nd Place - Lynda Jung “No Time Is the Right Time” 3rd Place - Fred Kingwill “The Future—Robin’s Eggs” Honorable Mentions awarded to: Sana Shaw “Awakening of the Star” Richard Scruggs “El Camino Pilgrims” Robin Beckwith “Fragments of Imagined Spring” Liz Hill “Leopard Hat” Each of the first three winners draws the viewer into the center of the painting and beyond! Chris Bunger’s stunning copse of tall trees reaching for the sky and light draws us out of the current darkness of the world to a spiritual point of light and hope and life. Lynda Jung’s 1st place - Christine Bunger “See the Light” reflection on time stretches us to think of time past, present and future, within the clock-like piece she places organic and non-organic elements of life. Fred Kingwill’s small piece uses the circular, womb-like nature of the nest holding the promise of new life to strengthen our hope in the future. Ellen also found it interesting that each of these pieces effectively broke the traditional rule of not centering the focal point on the page. It is the quality of BEYONDNESS and HOPE IN THE FUTURE in each of the pieces that makes the break 2nd place - Lynda Jung “No Time Is the 3rd place - Fred Kingwell “The Future— successful! Right Time” Robin’s Eggs” 2 Watercolor Art Society - Houston | Washrag Newsletter | February 2018 January 2018 Gallery Reception 1st place winner Christine Bunger with 2nd place winner Lynda Jung with Ellen 3rd place winner Fred Kingwill with the juror Ellen Orseck Orseck juror January General Meeting WAS-H HOSTED ELLEN ORSECK AS JANUARY 2018’S “FEATURD DEMO ARTIST” By Laura J.

  • Trance As Artefact: De-Othering Transformative States with Reference to Examples from Contemporary Dance in Canada
Trance as Artefact: De-Othering transformative states with reference to examples from contemporary dance in Canada Submitted in fulfilment of the requirements of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department of Dance Studies, University of Surrey August 1st, 2007 Bridget E. Cauthery © by Bridget E. Cauthery (2007) ABSTRACT Reflecting on his fieldwork among the Malagasy speakers of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean, Canadian anthropologist Michael Lambek questions why the West has a “blind spot” when it comes to the human activity of trance. Immersed in his subject’s trance practices, he questions why such a fundamental aspect of the Malagasy culture, and many other cultures he has studied around the world, is absent from his own. This research addresses the West’s preoccupation with trance in ethnographic research and simultaneous disinclination to attribute or situate trance within its own indigenous dance practices. From a Western perspective, the practice and application of research suggests a paradigm that locates trance according to an imperialist West/non-West agenda. If the accumulated knowledge and data about trance is a by-product of the colonialist project, then trance may be perceived as an attribute or characteristic of the Other. As a means of investigating this imbalance, I propose that trance could be reconceived as an attribute or characteristic of the Self, as exemplified by dancers engaged in Western dance practices within traditional anthropology’s “own backyard.” In doing so, I examine the degree to which trance can be a meaningful construct within the cultural analysis of contemporary dance creation and performance. Through case studies with four dancer/choreographers active in Canada, Margie Gillis, Zab Maboungou, Brian Webb and Vincent Sekwati Mantsoe, this research explores the cultural parameters and framing of transformative states in contemporary dance.

Come with me. A generation ago, the astronomer Carl Sagan stood here and launched hundreds of millions of us on a great adventure: the exploration of the universe revealed by science. It's time to get going again. We're about to begin a journey that will take us from the infinitesimal to the infinite, from the dawn of time to the distant future. We'll explore galaxies and suns and worlds, surf the gravity waves of space-time, encounter beings that live in fire and ice, explore the planets of stars that never die, discover atoms as massive as suns and universes smaller than atoms. Cosmos is also a story about us. It's the saga of how wandering bands of hunters and gatherers found their way to the stars, one adventure with many heroes.

Then he discovered Fruity Loops 1.0 which charmed him with its simple and multifunctional interface. Years have passed in sound training; a collection of samples and VST synths was growing up by that time. The first tracks sounded like melodic psy-trance inspired from Yahel's album tracks ("For The People"). Pavel left his hometown in 2003 and moved to Saint-Petersburg to continue his studies. He met a lot of new people who were in contact with trance music. The quality of his productions improved and gave him the impulse to continue. In 2005 two of his remixes have been spinned at the russian FM Radio Show named "Trancemission". That was the starting point for serious productions. The following releases appeared later on. His productions have been supported by Armin Van Buuren (A State Of Trance), Above & Beyond (Trance Around The World), Markus Schulz (Global DJ Broadcast), Tiesto (Clublife), Ferry Corsten (Corstren's Countdown) and also by Mike Shiver, Marcus Schossow, Matt Darey, John Askew, Mark Pledger and many other good DJs.
