GM/LG TUESDAY 28 MARCH TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 13 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ River City Tuesday 28 March BBC One Scotland HD, 8.00 – 9.00pm facebook.com/bbcrivercity twitter.com/bbcrivercity instagram.com/bbcrivercity This week in Shieldinch…Lenny’s feathers are ruffled when young pretender, Rick Harper, tries to lay claim to his throne; Bob and Kim’s relationship hits rocky ground when he makes a premature declaration of love; and Suzie pits sisters Ellie and Caitlin against each other in a job interview. Murdoch Enterprises becomes a target of vandalism which Lenny quickly discovers is a message from new gangster in town, Rick Harper. GM/LG THURSDAY 30 MARCH TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 13 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Beechgrove Garden NEW Thursday 30 March BBC Two Scotland, 7.00-7.30pm The best sign of spring is when The Beechgrove Garden returns and Jim McColl, Carole Baxter, George Anderson, Chris Beardshaw and Brian Cunningham are all back in the garden dispensing sage advice to keep growing. Jim and the team look at the signs of spring and see if it really has come early this year. Jim also takes a look at the progress of the over wintered veg and discovers that the mild winter has certainly helped towards an early harvest. Meanwhile even though it is only the end of March, George has already set himself a challenge to produce a weekly salad in his small space garden. Carole has been in search of early signs of spring as she takes an up close and personal look at the tiny world of snowdrops. Carole visits a true Galanthophile, Helen Rushton, in Rothienorman to discover why these tiny beauties excite such passions. Chris brings his garden designer hat to the garden this week as he teaches how to plant and train a pleached hedge (a hedge on stilts). Carole is also setting about early spring pruning jobs in the garden for both ornamental and productive plants. After taking away the old foliage of hellebores, Carole places mirrors on the ground under the blooms so that we can better see their spring faces. • BBC Four Programme Information
SOUND OF CINEMA: THE MUSIC THAT MADE THE MOVIES BBC Four Programme Information Neil Brand presenter and composer said, “It's so fantastic that the BBC, the biggest producer of music content, is showing how music works for films this autumn with Sound of Cinema. Film scores demand an extraordinary degree of both musicianship and dramatic understanding on the part of their composers. Whilst creating potent, original music to synchronise exactly with the images, composers are also making that music as discreet, accessible and communicative as possible, so that it can speak to each and every one of us. Film music demands the highest standards of its composers, the insight to 'see' what is needed and come up with something new and original. With my series and the other content across the BBC’s Sound of Cinema season I hope that people will hear more in their movies than they ever thought possible.” Part 1: The Big Score In the first episode of a new series celebrating film music for BBC Four as part of a wider Sound of Cinema Season on the BBC, Neil Brand explores how the classic orchestral film score emerged and why it’s still going strong today. Neil begins by analysing John Barry's title music for the 1965 thriller The Ipcress File. Demonstrating how Barry incorporated the sounds of east European instruments and even a coffee grinder to capture a down at heel Cold War feel, Neil highlights how a great composer can add a whole new dimension to film. Music has been inextricably linked with cinema even since the days of the "silent era", when movie houses employed accompanists ranging from pianists to small orchestras.

  • Deliberative Audience Research for the Public Interest Test Into the Proposed Introduction of a New BBC Scotland TV Channel
Deliberative audience research for the Public Interest Test into the proposed introduction of a new BBC Scotland TV channel Report of findings from PAPA July 2017 Objectives, Sample & Methodology 2 Context & Objectives 1. The BBC has announced plans to launch a new channel in Scotland - running 7pm – midnight everyday 2. As part of the new regulatory structure of the BBC, this launch is subject to a Public Interest Test (PIT), overseen by the BBC Executive Board, and an Ofcom Competition Assessment 3. To meet the criteria set out in the PIT, the BBC Board must be satisfied that the new initiative supports the BBC’s restated mission; that it promotes its public purposes; that the BBC has taken reasonable steps to ensure that the change has no impact on fair and effective competition; and that the public value of the initiative justifies any impact on the competition 4. To measure the public value of the initiative a process is necessary which includes a measurement of the potential personal and citizen value which audiences in Scotland could gain from the launch of the new initiative 5. In late May 2017, PAPA conducted a deliberative qualitative study to provide indicative measures and insights of how the audience may value the proposal 6. A sample of the Scottish public, reflective of adults in Scotland, was presented with the proposal in order to: - Understand and explore the personal value they evaluate in the proposal - Understand and explore the citizen value they evaluate in the proposal - Identify other insights into competition, fulfilment of the Public Purposes or wider impacts the proposal might have on the BBC and the broader broadcasting environment 3 Overview of Methodology • A deliberative approach was used for this research in order to uncover the informed, considered views of a wide range of members of the public.

Delivering Quality First in Scotland DELIVERING QUALITY FIRST IN SCOTLAND EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The BBC is the most trusted broadcaster in Scotland and a core part of the life of the nation. It unites the audience in enjoyment of the most popular TV, radio and online services, while also championing the diversity of the interests, cultures and languages of this nation of islands and regions. It is valued for upholding the highest standards of quality. The BBC’s commitment to Scotland is to offer a range and depth of programming which is both widely relevant and uniquely distinctive. As the only broadcaster which has invested in covering the whole country across all platforms, it is well-placed to do this. The BBC’s ambition in Scotland is to serve as a national forum, connecting the people of Scotland to each other, to the wider UK and to the rest of the world. As a public service broadcaster which has secure funding and global reach, the BBC is well-placed to achieve this. The BBC provides value to audiences in Scotland in two main ways: through programmes and services which are made in and for Scotland specifically; and through programmes and services which are broadcast across the whole UK. In Scotland, the audience rates the BBC as the leading provider of both Scottish news and non-news programming. Reporting Scotland has the highest reach of any news bulletin; TV opt-out programming1 reaches 44% of the audience every week and is highly appreciated; BBC Radio Scotland is second in popularity only to BBC Radio Two; BBC Scotland’s online portfolio has 3.7m weekly UK unique browsers2; and BBC ALBA attracts half a million English-speaking viewers to its Gaelic TV channel every week.

Jose Dailos Cabrera Laasanen Is Rock Music in Decline? A Business Perspective Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Bachelor of Business Administration International Business and Logistics 1405484 22nd March 2018 Abstract Author(s) Jose Dailos Cabrera Laasanen Title Is Rock Music in Decline? A Business Perspective Number of Pages 45 Date 22.03.2018 Degree Bachelor of Business Administration Degree Programme International Business and Logistics Instructor(s) Michael Keaney, Senior Lecturer Rock music has great importance in the recent history of human kind, and it is interesting to understand the reasons of its de- cline, if it actually exists. Its legacy will never disappear, and it will always be a great influence for new artists but is important to find out the reasons why it has become what it is in now, and what is the expected future for the genre. This project is going to be focused on the analysis of some im- portant business aspects related with rock music and its de- cline, if exists. The collapse of Gibson guitars will be analyzed, because if rock music is in decline, then the collapse of Gibson is a good evidence of this. Also, the performance of independ- ent and major record labels through history will be analyzed to understand better the health state of the genre. The same with music festivals that today seem to be increasing their popularity at the expense of smaller types of live-music events. Keywords Rock, music, legacy, influence, artists, reasons, expected, fu- ture, genre, analysis, business, collapse,
