The Story of Scottish Pop, Prog 3/4  RADIO HIGHLIGHT Sunday 1 July BBC Radio Scotland HD, 2.00-3.00pm

In the third episode of The Story of Scottish Pop, Vic Galloway takes a side step into the world of dance music. “Whether your tastes are for deep bass, something you can shake a glow stick at, or music that’ll just get you moving, Scotland has done surprisingly well when it comes to all things electronic,“ says Vic. As well as pop provocateurs The KLF, Scotland is the birthplace of The Shamen (a group who went from their underground, psychedelic roots to No.1 in the UK pop charts) and Calvin Harris - the most successful male pop star in the USA since Michael Jackson. And without Scotland’s burgeoning dance label Soma the world might not have been introduced to Daft Punk. As well as Scottish artists who’ve found success making dance music the scene has spawned world renowned DJs. In this episode Vic speaks to Keith ‘Twitch’ McIvor from Optimo, Eclair Fifi and Slam. The programme also features contributions from Mylo, Jon Campbell from The Time Frequency, Brian D’Souza (aka Auntie Flo) and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie. The Story of Scottish Pop is part of BBC Scotland’s summer celebration of Scottish music. There will be a three-part TV series and an online podcast series, which coincides with Rip It Up - a new music exhibit at The National Museum of Scotland. Next week, in the radio series finale, The Story of Scottish Pop looks at the best alternative and indie music to come out of Scotland.

This week in Shieldinch…Theresa frantically tries to cover her tracks as Kim’s life hangs in the balance; with her infidelity exposed, Caitlin is forced to choose between Pete and Gabriel; and Alex and Lenny’s relationship is rocked by a secret revelation. As Kim lies gravely injured on the road, a guilty Theresa points the finger at Lou claiming her reckless driving caused the accident. When the emergency services arrive, Theresa is horrified to see a dash cam in Lou’s police car. Fearing the truth will soon be revealed, Theresa creates a diversion to steal the camera. As a worried Bob and the family race to the hospital, Theresa makes her excuses and leaves in order to destroy the damning evidence. With the heat on Lou, it looks as though Theresa’s off the hook. That is, until Kim begins to regain consciousness in hospital. Elsewhere, with Caitlin’s affair public knowledge, Pete hopes the dust will settle but Danny has other ideas. Danny tries to provoke Caitlin but when that fails, he reveals Pete cheated on her with Francesca. The revelation makes Caitlin doubt the future of their marriage, giving Gabriel an opportunity to lure her away from Pete. After Charlotte and Katie witness an explosive argument between Lenny and Alex, father and son agree to put tensions aside and rebuild their relationship. However, it proves short-lived after Katie accidentally lets slip a shocking secret Alex told her.

Theresa is played by Maureen Carr, Kim by Frances Thorburn, Caitlin by Gayle Telfer Stevens, Pete by Andy Gray, Gabriel by Garry Sweeney, Alex by Jordan Young, Lenny by Frank Gallagher, Lou by Lesley Hart, Bob by Stephen Purdon, Danny by Neil Pendleton, Charlotte by Daisy Veldhoven and Katie by Libby Dye.
