Since the work of J.J. Heckel (1846-1849), the number of valid species has increased significantly and the systematic status of many of the species has changed, and reorganization and updating of the published information has become essential. Here we take the opportunity to provide a new and updated checklist of freshwater fishes of Iran based on literature and taxon occurrence data obtained from natural history and new fish collections. This article lists 288 species in 107 genera, 28 families, 22 orders and 3 classes reported from different Iranian basins. However, presence of 23 reported species in Iranian waters needs confirmation by specimens. -

Based on the obtained results, all three collected specimens (TL= 174-192mm, SL= 148-169mm) were infested with Lernaea parasites which were attached to the base of dorsal, pectoral, caudal and pelvic fins and also body muscles. The prevalence and intensity of parasite was 100% and 10.3, respectively. Due to effects of Lernaea, a long term monitoring of the parasites and fishes in the Kor River basin is highly recommended. Cleaning behavior is rare in fishes and is a highly specialized feeding strategy only observed in around 200 species. Cleaner fishes vary in their degree of specialization, ranging from species that clean as juveniles or facultatively as adults, to nearly obligate or dedicated cleaners. Here, we investigate whether these different levels of trophic specialization correspond with similar changes in feeding morphology. Specifically, we model the evolution of cleaning behavior across the family Gobiidae, which contains the most speciose radiation of dedicated and facultative cleaner fishes. We compared the cranial morphology and dentition of cleaners and non-cleaners across the phylogeny of cleaning gobies and found that facultative cleaners independently evolved four times and have converged on an intermediate morphology relative to that of dedicated cleaners and non-cleaning generalists. This is consistent with their more flexible feeding habits. Cleaner gobies also possess a distinct tooth morphology, which suggests they are adapted for scraping parasites off their clients and show little similarity to other cleaner clades. -

Herein, Paraschistura specimens from seven stations in Hari river basin were captured using hand-net and COI sequences of Paraschistura cristata and Paraschistura turcmenica were presented for all recognized species. Moreover; 119 sequences from ten species of Paraschistura in Genbank were added in order to assess of the phylogenetic position of the Paraschistura specimens and compare resulting tree with other studies. Molecular data obtained from Maximum likelihood (ML) tree and Bayesian tree (BI) were congruent and clearly indicate two main clades in phylogenetic tree and the genus Paraschistura in the Hari River basin, are considered as P. cristata and P. turcmenica. There is worldwide distribution of fresh water fishes. Pakistan is blessed with a diversity of fishes owing to streams, rivers, dams and ocean. In freshwater bodies of the country about 193 fish species were recorded. There are about 30 species of fish which are commercially exploited for good source of proteins and vitamins. The fish marketing has great socio economic value in the country. Unfortunately, fish fauna is declining at alarming rate due to water pollution, over fishing, pesticide use and other anthropogenic activities. Therefore, about 20 percent of fish population is threatened as endangered or extinct. All Mashers are ‘endangered’, notably Tor putitora, which is also included in the Red List Category of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as Endangered. Mashers (Tor species) are distributed in Southeast Asian and Himalayan regions including trans-Himalayan countries like Pakistan and India. The heavy flood of July, 2010 resulted in the minimizing of Tor putitora species Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the fish is now found extinct from river Swat. -

Hamdan3 1Tegnervägen 6B, 641 36 Katrineholm, Sweden 2Department of Biology, College of Education for Pure Science, University of Baghdad, Iraq 3Department of Biology, College of Education for Pure Science, University of Tikrit, Iraq *Corresponding author: [email protected] Abstract: Literature reviews of reports concerning the parasitic fauna of fishes of Salah Al-Din province, Iraq till the end of 2017 showed that a total of 115 parasite species are so far known from 25 valid fish species investigated for parasitic infections. The parasitic fauna included two myzozoans, one choanozoan, seven ciliophorans, 24 myxozoans, eight trematodes, 34 monogeneans, 12 cestodes, 11 nematodes, five acanthocephalans, two annelids and nine crustaceans. The infection with some trematodes and nematodes occurred with larval stages, while the remaining infections were either with trophozoites or adult parasites. Among the inspected fishes, Cyprinion macrostomum was infected with the highest number of parasite species (29 parasite species), followed by Carasobarbus luteus (26 species) and Arabibarbus grypus (22 species) while six fish species (Alburnus caeruleus, A. sellal, Barbus lacerta, Cyprinion kais, Hemigrammocapoeta elegans and Mastacembelus mastacembelus) were infected with only one parasite species each. The myxozoan Myxobolus oviformis was the commonest parasite species as it was reported from 10 fish species, followed by both the myxozoan M. pfeifferi and the trematode Ascocotyle coleostoma which were reported from eight fish host species each and then by both the cestode Schyzocotyle acheilognathi and the nematode Contracaecum sp. -
