October Programs at Anythink Commerce City COMMERCE CITY, Colo.–October 9, 2012–Celebrate the beginning of autumn at your local Anythink with new opportunities for learning, fun and creativity.

Please note that all Anythink libraries will be closed on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, in observance of Columbus Day.

Special Programs Deferred Action and Immigration Policy Tuesday, Oct. 9, 5:30-6:30 pm According to a new U.S. regulation, certain people who came to the as children and meet several key guidelines may request consideration of deferred action for a period of two years, and may be eligible for employment. This policy is known as Deferred Action for Childhood (DACA). You’re welcome to attend this informational session presented by McGuire Law to learn more details about this new regulation as a permanent resident.

Permanent Residence Preparation Saturday, Oct. 13, 1-2:30 pm Kate M. Syfert, community relations officer for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, will talk about naturalization requirements, the naturalization interview and English and civics tests. She’ll also provide free materials to help study for the test. All attendees are welcome to ask any questions they may have. The program will be held in English with Spanish translation.

“HORROR”-ibly Funny Film Festival Saturday, Oct. 27, 12-4 pm All ages are welcome at this funny film festival to enjoy some good, scary fun. Food and drinks will be served. Below is the schedule for the program: • 12-12:30 pm: It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown • 12:30-1:15 pm: Lunch • 1:15-1:45 pm: Scared Shrekless • 2:45-4 pm – Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Begins

Bingo for Books Thursdays, Oct. 4 & 18, 4-5:30 pm On the first and third Thursdays of the month, we host Bingo for Books for all ages. Teens, tweens, families and children are welcome to join in the Bingo fun, with books for prizes!

Thursday Crafternoon Thursdays, Oct. 11 & 25, 4-5:30 pm On the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, we host a general Crafternoon for all ages. Teens, tweens, families and children are welcome to create with assorted crafting supplies.

Baby Bounce Mondays, 10-10:30 am Share time with your little one at your local Anythink with songs, rhymes, and stories for babies and their caregivers. Appropriate for ages birth-23 months.

Toddler Tales Wednesdays, 10-10:30 am Spend time with your toddler listening to stories, songs and finger plays geared just for them. Appropriate for kids ages 2-3.

Two Ways to Say Story Time! Thursdays, 6:30-7 pm Join us at the library for a bilingual story time! Every Thursday we’ll host a bilingual storytime for children and their parents. Come on in and enjoy stories in both English and Spanish.

Family Programs Tales to Tails Saturday, Oct. 6, 10 am-12 pm Come and read to our special listening dogs – they love a good story! Our dogs come from the Denver Pet Partners and are specially trained. This is an especially good experience for reluctant readers or children ages 6-12 who are afraid of dogs. Space is limited, so please register at the front desk.

- more - Family Fun Saturday: Monster Mass Craft Saturday, Oct. 20, 1-3 pm Be a kid again! On the third Saturday of every month, we host a Family Fun Saturday with an activity and snacks. This month, use your creativity to turn an ordinary plastic soda bottle into a monster that can hold any candy that you might collect this time of year. Stop by and join the fun!

Teen Programs Creative Space Wednesday, Oct. 17, 3:30-4:30 pm Do you draw? Like to write? Making a film? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then the Creation Space is the place for you. We provide a quiet space to create – no grades and no judgment. Share if you wish, or keep you work to yourself; any way is good. Please stop by and join the fun!

Teen Advisory Board: Grades 9-12 Wednesday, Oct. 24, 3:30-4:30 pm Get involved and be heard by joining the Teen Advisory Board at Anythink Commerce City. Students from grades 9-12 are invited to discuss projects they’d like to see at the library. Snacks will be provided.
