  • A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS Synopsis
A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS Based on the television special by Bill Melendez Synopsis One Act (55 minutes) Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and all your favorite Peanuts characters come together to retell a classic story about finding the true meaning of Christmas. It’s almost Christmas and the kids are enjoying the season. Well, everyone except for Charlie Brown. While the others ice skate, throw snowballs, and receive Christmas cards, Charlie Brown is feeling depressed about the holiday. Even Snoopy, dressed as Santa, is getting in on the fun. The kids catch snowflakes on their tongues (although Lucy informs the group she only eats January snow), create a snowman, and throw snowballs at a can (which Linus eventually knocks down with his blanket). But, in spite of all the merriment, Charlie Brown is still sad about Christmas. Charlie Brown decides he needs to talk to someone about his sorrow. He goes to see doctor Lucy. Lucy, after happily accepting his money for her service, asks Charlie Brown what he fears. He reveals that he’s feeling down about Christmas. Lucy’s remedy? Charlie Brown needs involvement and she finally convinces him to direct the Christmas play. Much to Charlie Brown’s dismay, Snoopy is decorating his doghouse for Christmas in an effort to win prize money. Meanwhile, Linus and Lucy are attempting to craft the perfect letter to Santa Claus. And, reluctantly, Charlie Brown even helps his little sister, Sally, write her letter to Santa. It’s Charlie Brown’s first rehearsal as director of the Christmas play. However, things quickly go awry.

Parade Rewind with Al Roker: His Idea of Perfect Weather and How Oversleeping Inspired His First App MAY 2, 2014 By ERIN HILL @ErinHillNY America’s favorite weatherman, Al Roker, stopped by to chat with Paradeabout his brand new app, Al’s Weather Rokies (available on iTunes), his early morning routine, growing up in Queens, New York, and having a spouse in the same industry. Check AlRoker.com for all the latest! Tell us about your new app, Al’s Weather Rokies. “Al’s Weather Rokies is unlike anything out there. There are gaming apps, there are weather apps, but there isn’t anything that puts the two together. So you get a forecast, you get information you need to know, but there’s a little game involved. Of course I do early morning TV, both Wake Up with Al and the Todayshow, and there was a little episode last year when I overslept for the first time. There’s a game that involves these cute little weather characters that you have to use to wake me up and help me get to the studio. So it’s both a game and a weather app.” And it incorporates your love of animation. “Yeah, I have loved animation ever since I was a little kid. I wanted to be an animator. What’s been great is that I’ve been able to use some of that in designing these apps and working with the programmers to get the animation right. It’s kind of addictive’ it’s fun. I think each of these little weather icons, these Rokies, whether it’s a cloud or a sun or a windstorm, all have their own little personality.” What were some of your favorite cartoons as a kid? “The classics, Tom and Jerry, The Roadrunner, Bugs Bunny, all the classic Disney feature animations, and then even as I got older, I still loved animation, The Animaniacs, and you move forward into Batman and Batman Beyond.

  • Press Release
GOBELINS and Netflix strengthen their partnership in favour of the emergence of new talents in animation Paris, November 3rd, 2020 - One year after the establishment of a partnership aimed at identifying and developing new talent in animation, Netflix and GOBELINS announce a new chapter in their collaboration with the creation of scholarships for three Bachelor's students, a new post-baccalaureate course. This new chapter of action complements the initiatives already in place with, in particular, the financing of scholarships for Master students from the African continent and the integration each year of a young graduate from GOBELINS into the Netflix Animation Fellowship programme. A broadening of the partnership set up in 2019 On the occasion of the start of the 2020 academic year, Netflix and GOBELINS are strengthening the partnership set up in 2019 with the creation of scholarships that will give three students each year access to GOBELINS' education as part of the introduction of a Bachelor's degree. This new course aims to master all animation techniques, both traditional and digital (2D and 3D), from pre-production to post-production, using professional methods practised in animation film studios in France and abroad. The first beneficiaries of this character animation apprenticeship scholarship programme will be appointed in June 2021. "We are proud to help foster the emergence of new talent from diverse backgrounds alongside GOBELINS. With this new chapter of our collaboration, we will also be able to support younger profiles with just raw talent and their highschool diploma in their pockets", said Dominique Bazay, Kids & Family Director at Netflix.

The Pennsylvania State University The Graduate School College of Communications SASSY COWS AND MAGICAL JUJU: REPRESENTATIONS OF RACE AND ETHNICITY ON THREE NICKTOONS PROGRAMS A Thesis in Media Studies by Nicole M. Lawrence © 2012 Nicole M. Lawrence Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts December 2012 ii The thesis of Nicole M. Lawrence was reviewed and approved* by the following: Matthew P. McAllister Professor of Communications Thesis Adviser Matthew F. Jordan Associate Professor of Communications Michael Elavsky Associate Professor of Communications Marie Hardin Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research *Signatures are on file in the Graduate School. iii ABSTRACT This thesis critiques programming on the children’s media channel Nicktoons for patterns of racial representation -- including the presence of stereotyping -- in characters. As research has shown that representation of ethnicity may be especially influential to children viewers, and that there are precedents for problematic racial representations in popular media, including children's media, the continued examination of patterns of racial-ethnic group member representation and stereotyping in character depictions has significant implications. Utilizing textual analysis, three Nicktoons’ programs are examined for racialized constructions of characters, including constructions with hegemonic and ethnocentric implications. The thesis argues that three programs, Back at the Barnyard, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Tak and the Power of JuJu problematically construct analogies of African Americans, Asians, and native peoples, respectively. The constructions in these Nicktoons programs typically “other” these groups when contrasted to dominant white culture -- or at least the animated stand-ins for dominant white culture -- and imply cultural hierarchies in which white culture is superior and/or the norm.
